On my server (Feathermoon) the way we generally handle things is that I will announce at the beginning of the run that i am capable of sharding anything anything that is unwanted and then we use the in game roller. I normally wait untill last to roll, and if nobody need rolls i will greed roll for the shard. At the end of the run I distribute shards. I'm mostly running heroics now and 9/10 times all drops are sharded so i normally end up with at least 4 large prismatics and a void crystal. If thats the case I normally just distribute the shards evenly and then if there are any left over we /roll for the remainder.

This method is the most fair.Rolling on each shard individually means that it's *very* possible that everyone will get at shard BUT the enchanter, and that's annoying. They are the most entitled to it. If anyone has a reasonable disagreement, I'd love to hear it.
