Problem is, I did that last week and loved it so much that I purchased it and thinking of suspending my WoW account because of it :D.
Trying other MMOs is a great idea. As I said, I fell in love with LOTRO. It's like WoW, but different. The audience is mature and everyone RPs. If you own a console, such as an Xbox or PlayStation, play some old games or buy some new ones.
Making an alt, imo, will not cure burnout. True burnout is when you just can't even look at WoW ingame anymore. You just need to step away for a month or two. Your characters will still be there. When you feel up to it, come on back. You'll want it move once you've left for a few :-).
