Patch night connectivity issues may be over soon [UPDATED]

We've gotten quite a few tips and reports that there have been some issues with connectivity this evening. It seems many people have been getting disconnected upon leaving an instanced dungeon or battleground and are unable to log back in on that character.We don't have much solid information on what's causing it, but the theory so far has been an ISP issue. I'm not very tech savvy when it comes to that sort of thing, so I can't really say how true that may or may not be. However, our buddy Belfaire seems to be doing what he can to take care of it. He just posted that they think they've found the issue and may be rolling out a fix.
So, you guys with characters stuck in limbo? Hopefully your problems will go away very soon.

Belfaire confirms that the characters-stuck-in-limbo issue is on Blizzard's end. There is no resolution yet, but the following message just popped up on my home server. There may be a fix rolling out now, and there might not be. No word from Belfaire yet that I can see.
Update #2: Belfaire confirms. Realms will be restarting shortly. Countdown is at 10 minutes on my home server.

How can it possibly be an ISP issue when i get disconnected pulling Maiden trash in Karazhan and i'm unable to connect back to that character, but i can easily switch servers and connect to my horde character? It's inexpicable and even when a guildie gets ahold of a GM he says the only thing he can do is talk directly to me or the other person in my guild who had a DC problem, but when you cant log onto a server how do they want to talk to me?

ummm, it's an AT&T issue, oh wait, it's ummmmm, a problem with a mod your using. Disable all your mods and try again.

Hope EU servers don't have similar issues tonight. I installed the patch this morning before I went to work, so it should be ready to go when I get back... should be...

Can't even get on yet, Patch is sitting at 99% fully downloaded but won't go over that point.

Today is patch day for EU (its 9:15am GMT here), hope they roll out the patch the US are getting before they start the servers....

What a crazy day. I knew with it being such a big patch there were going to be some issues. Couldn't really play at all with every knuckle-dragger out there tryin to log on. :) Hopefully in a few days it evens out a bit.

heres a nice happy semi-technical explanation of what is prolly happening (note: i'm not from blizz, so everything is conjecture)
The way the servers are set up, there are separate Realm Servers, Battlegroup servers, and Instance Servers
The realm servers handle you when you're just hangin out. The Battlegroup servers handle you when you're in a BG or Arena. The Instance Servers handle you when you are inside an instance.
We believe this to be true based on the vague answers blizz has given us with regards to the physical server setups they have goin on...
this "in limbo" problem affects players that were in the care of a Battlegroup or Instance server.
Its VERY likely that the problem is a result of the server not returning your character to the Realm server after its done with it... The standard "i dun know what to do" response for the Realm server is to disconnect the client. If the Realm server can't log the character in because some other server is still hangin on to them... its very likely that the realm server wouldn't let your character log in...
Things happen...
Its inconvenient sometimes... but thats part of life

I was able to get on to The Underbog for a bit last night with no issues. This morning I could log on, but my character list could not be retrieved at all. That is kinda scary!

Yup, i was minding my own business, walking into Auchenai Crypts just to have a quick look-see. As i walked out of the instance, i got kicked out onto the login page, and couldn't get onto my shammy. But i can get onto my hunter fine. Both are on Mannoroth.

There seems to be an issue for anyone using an ATI Radeon Mobility 9000 graphics card. I play the game for about 10 seconds and then my system crashes.

Happened to me after winning AV (1st time in 3 months btw) now I'm stuck in limbo land can't log into my main, but I can log onto my horde alt...
