Kael'thas in two places at once
This thread over on the forums starts off a little silly (it's a complaint about Kael'thas being both in Tempest Keep and Magisters' Terrace at the same time), but later on gets into some really interesting commentary and thinking about just how the lore and story in this game works. Obviously, there are no problems with having Kael in two places at once (as Bornakk says with an epic burn, a character can be alive on page 1 and dead on page 10 at the same time), but it's interesting that that's not always what happens in the game. Griftah, for example, was never in two places at once, and neither was Hemet Nesingwary -- both of those characters had progressive lore storylines. But Kael, like Thrall, has a storyline that evolves as a character moves forward in their own storyline, and so Blizzard has placed him in two different places at once, and asked players to move their own characters to see the storyline in order.Interesting stuff. Scuzz makes a particularly interesting point in the thread -- the World of Warcraft really does revolve around player characters, not NPCs. If you discover through quests that Onyxia is actually pretending to be a woman in Stormwind, all of the NPCs your character meets will be shocked. It's a sign of Blizzard's talent at game creation that something can be both known by most players and discovered by one player almost every single day.
Of course there's no problem with Kael being in two places -- I would rather have my character move through a changing world than have Blizzard worry about making sure "reality" was kept correctly. But it's an interesting line being walked very well -- if you do the two instances in order, you get a much better story than if we were simply fighting a generic third boss in Magisters' Terrace.

I hope we will continue to see Tirion Fordring in the plaguelands even after WotLK comes out and he appears in Northrend. Coolest npc ever. Removing him would wreck one of the best questlines in the game.

well the world is supposed to be linear. it is a case of game mechanics over lore. if you think about it, every instance is emptied of it's evil and there are very few enemies left in the world to fight. but, it has to stay there for game mechanics and entertainment. if they kept true to lore then we would be rerolling every time one of our characters died and there would be far fewer of alot of classes than there is. we get in talks like this in my guild and for some ppl it is hard to wrap their heads around it.

Yes, they moved Hemet Nesingwary, and Rexxar moved to Outland, leaving a replacement behind in Desolace, why can't they move Kael'thas too? Kind of burns Bornakk's "Alive on page 1 but dead on page 10" theory, when they've moved several NPCs before.

That little SOB Corki is in what, 3 different places in Nagrand? Granted, he's of no importance to the story but it's a fact. With all the paradox inherent to WoW, why is this a big deal?

I've no issue with him being in two places at once. However unlike Onyixa etc... most fresh 70's, alts or those not yet in tempest keep will see this content out of chronological order (i.e. they will face the broken Kael before the unbroken - if indeed they even get that far).
Not game breaking, but a little annoying

For most players, they will see Kael in Magisters Terrace before they do in the Eye, which is kind of stupid. They should have made Kael 2 as boss in the Sunwell Plateau instead, and put someone else as boss in MT. Then it would have made sense.

I just killed one named mob for 500th time now, tell me about that "sense" you speak off!

Hemet Nesingwary Jr. is in stv, I thought it was his father Hemet Nesingwary that is in Outlands, no?

If peeps are gonna get up in arms about Kael being in two places at once, have they thought about the following:
1. What happens to your toon when you log out?
2. Why does food not rot in your bag?
3. Who feeds your hunter pets while they are in the stables?
4. Why can you die, turn into a ghost, then run back to your body and ressurect with the only consequence being a slight degradation of your gear durability and returning with 50% hp/mana?
5. Why do AoE buffs only affect those members within your 5-man group?
... and many other questions of what the science of physics means to the World of Warcraft.

I think that its the gnomes!!! They are behind it all!!!!!!

I believe that Kael'thas's current state of being in two places at once implies that he has mastered the secret talent tree of Quantum Physics, and gained the "Entanglement" ability. Thus, he can now effectively be in two places at once until somebody finds out which instance he's really in. Schrödinger's Boss, if you will.

I just had Mt. Dew come out of my nose, and I blame you good sir.
However, this is a new strat we never considered for Kael. Put him in a box with radioactive material and forget about him!

what about the horde quest in nagrand that thrall shows up to? isn't he still in ogrimmar for everyone else?
Freelier Mar 28th 2008 10:55AM
Onyxia, Marshall Winsor, Sangrias Stillblade, Kael, Vael, Ishanah, Jaina Proudmoore, Thrall, etc. There's a bunch of examples out there.

I think it's perfectly fine that Kael'thas is in two places at the same time since, as said above, it's two different moments in the progression of the story. Also it's a nice idea since being the last boss of a 5 man dungeon, the non raiders can get a taste of what his encounter is like in TK even if it's toned down.
This article also got me thinking about the story progression of M'uru. My write up is below.

Unfortunately for Bornakk, page 1 of the book is readable solo, page 2 of the book requires four others to read it with you, page 3 of the book requires twenty-four others to read it with you, and page 4 of the book is back to four again.
Since ~60% of the readership skipped straight from page 2 to page 4, but the contents of page 4 assumes we read page 3, it's no surprise people are confused or annoyed.
