Breakfast Topic: Fun surprises
As many of you are, I've been doing my duty to my server and pocketbook by completing the Shattered Sun Offensive daily quests every day. I have to admit, I was pretty disappointed that the reward for many of the quests is [Shattered Sun Supplies]. Before opening it, I was excited. I expected some nifty food and potions, maybe gems or herbs, and greens. I like to be surprised by some things, so I hadn't looked up the current loot list.
Needless to say, after a few days, and a bag full of useless 68 greens with + resistances on them, I became discouraged. Then I opened my first one of the day, and voila! A [Badge of Justice]!
Because I rarely have much time to spend in-game these days, I hadn't collected any of these yet (sad I know). The experience actually reminded me of the two times that [Wall of the Dead] dropped for me, and the time that [Kang the Decapitator] fell into my hands, and the roll came out in my favor. The two rarest pets I've ever farmed and received, the [Captured Firefly] and the [Tiny Crimson Whelpling], also definitely gave me a natural high.
What warm and fuzzy memories do you have of surprising drops and good fortune?

When I had just started Karazhan, we had a Blinkstrike sword drop off a trash mob on the second pull. Being the only rogue there at the time and having only a blue main hand sword at the time I was thrilled to find I could take it.
It was probably the most awesome thing to happen at the start of raiding - I had two swords, sword spec, windfury totem. And this was before the patch that nerfed bonus hits proccing more bonus hits - getting 5-6 hits off a single strike always made me grin (kinda upset the tanks though).

I dunno, 11g AND a green worth 2-10g (or dust worth potentially more) AND a chance for a badge is pretty freakin sweet rewards from a daily.
Previously you got what? 12 flat, or maybe some apexis crystals thrown in? Even if the SS Supplies didn't have a chance for a badge, and I assume the green can end up being a blue or an epic BOE, maybe even a rare crafting pattern, it's still more than we've been given in a daily quest ever before with the exception of the heroic dungeon daily.
That's been a pretty good and surprising reward to me.

I remember doing that quest in The Badlands where you have to slaughter interminable numbers of dragon whelps to get one quest drop with a drop rate of something approaching 0%. After four hours of doing nothing but killing these whelps (and dinging once) I finally gave up, but I did get a tiny black whelpling on the last kill which somewhat made up for the loss of four hours of my life.

Crimson Whelpling was cool - I wasn't even really trying for it at the time. I was running through the area (don't remember why) and saw a whelpling flying. I randomly killed it and looted the whelpling. Couldn't believe it.
Anytime I get a world drop alchemy recipe is pretty cool... I just picked a new one up last night so that was pretty sweet. Especially since they go for about 600g on the AH, it's nice to get them for free.

I dunno about the blue or epic from the bags in all honesty, there hasnt been any claims of anyone getting them and none of my guild has had anything better than a green (we have a post on our forum that each person says how many bags a day, how many bades and if there was a blue)
however even so the bag itself is a nice bonus and even though I have an enchanter I still sell anything that is 6G+ (My D/e rate is terrible and arcane dust goes for about 80 silver each)

Everytime I open a Shattered Sun bag I feel like Charlie Brown. "I got a rock"

Since tuesday, I've gotten 3 badges out of my SSO supplies. I was hoping the sso suplies would contain aldor or scryer marks. But I'm not complaining, I've gotten quite a bit of dust, planars, and a shard from melting down the crappy greens. :)

You'd rather get marks than badges?!? The same marks that you can buy on the AH and that are dropped at a high rate by dozens of mob types? Instead of badges which can't be bought and are turned in for some of the best gear in the game?
If you can figure out a way to do it, I'll give you a bag full of marks for a few extra badges. I am also have a bridge to sell if you ask nicely :)

I collect up the greens I get from the SSO supplies and send em off to one my guild's enchanters. A day or two later I get a nice package of Dusts, Planers and if I am lucky, Shards. Helps to save some gold when I need gear enchanted (about 2/3 through the pile o' gold I need for my epic flyer).

Several great things have happened to me on my mage character. The first was my Tiny Crimson Whelpling when I hit level 60 2 years ago. Then there was my Azure Whelpling for my druid a couple of months ago. Then on wednesday, on my second run of Magisters' Terrace the Phoenix Hatchling dropped and I won it. If that wasn't a feeling of utter elation I don't what is.

I still remember my first epic drop... it was a Flurry Axe off a wolf in Blasted Lands. I was about 100 xp away from dinging, and needed to kill just one mob to do so. Well, well, well. ;)
The second epic drop was just 10 levels later in Un'goro... I think it something like Bloodstrike, and it dropped off one of those raptors -- again, the first mob I killed the zone just happens to drop a shiny new epic. Needless to say, these two items funded my epic mount (back when it was still cheap to train, expensive to buy the mount).
Just when I thought I would never see an epic again, I was grinding Aldor marks out in Netherstorm when an Epic blacksmithing plan dropped. I thought for sure that this would get me started on getting my epic flying mount, but I foolishly devoted it to leveling Jewelcrafting on my alt. :(

I've gotten 3 Badges since the patch started up, which were all nice surprises, plus the gold and green DE loot...add in the rep towards some of the nicer SSO rep rewards, and the new dailies seem pretty nice to me.
However, the BEST thing I've gotten out of the new dailies is from, of all things, the new fishing daily. Second time I did it I get a BoE +15 stam blue gem. From the few posts I've seen about this they're selling for hundreds of gold. Not bad for fishing up a crocodile....in Org....on the first cast.
