Do you read your realm forums?
Do you read your realm forums? Simple question, eh? Personally, I make sure I at least take a look at my realm forums once a day, even if I don't post.Admittedly, realm forums are quite often just a pile of drama. Who cybered who, who ninja'd from who, who ganked who. Blah blah blah. Hidden behind all of that, though, there is usually a lot of helpful information. Patch note discussions, recruitment notices, maybe even server progression lists or charts of who on the server has rare crafting recipes.
I've been amazed a few times by people that desperately search for raiding guilds to join on the server, but have not once looked at the official realm boards to see who is even recruiting. Plus, as an officer in a raiding guild, it's just a little bothersome to find out there are so many people that may have been interested in that open spot you had for two months, you just had no way to reach them or know about them.
I've been under the impression that most people who play more than a few hours a week read their realm boards, but I'm not so sure that's the case. That would be a lot of people, when you think about it. So what about you guys? Do you read? Do you post?
Patch 2.4 sounds great, but what's in it for you? Yep, at least once a day. Best way to stay informed of what is happening on your realm. Geat for searching for master crafters, raid recruiting, and ninja looter blacklists.

Aszune (EU) actually has a fantastic unofficial realm forum, it's recently changed to help include old members who don't play wow anymore but miss the community. Plenty of fresh topics to read everyday about any number of things including wow gets a thumbs up from me.

I've never actually talked to anyone that's regularly read the server boards for any game. Most players have no reason to.
Swarfy Mar 29th 2008 5:31PM
I hit it about once a week. Otherwise mine is nothing but a bunch of e-peen stroking, and why 'such and such guild is lamzors'. So I tend to avoid it as much as possible. Class boards are a different story. There's a lot of comical stuff that goes in a couple of them. LOL

I looked at it... once... when my server was down.
Isa Mar 29th 2008 5:52PM
No way. There's too much junk (drama) to sift through to find anything remotely helpful.
Patyn Mar 29th 2008 7:03PM
Ours is an RP server. Not so bad in game...in fact, in game, I'd guess most people don't even know it's an RP server. On the realm forum however....
That said, I do glance through the topics most days.

Bingo. We have a paladin on our server named Baconn that does nothing but gank Horde all day long with 1-5 friends helping out at any given time. Every time I've checked our forums, I see at least 5 topics named "@Baconn" and it drives me nuts.

Same with us. 90% of the posts on the realm forums are the same dozen or so posters who just throw insults back and forth.
For progression and crafting lists, we have a realm page on wowwiki that's updated far more regularly than the old realm forum progression thread ever was.

Mannoroth is just useless crap. Mostly you post and then a few jackasses compete to see who can post a text picture of will smith. its idiotic and annoying to those of us who would use the forum for interesting info.
Tuberon Mar 29th 2008 6:41PM
Illidan's unofficial forum has about 300x the traffic the official does, and all the cool (read: trolls) are there.
LuckyRollz Mar 29th 2008 6:49PM
I play on Dunemaul and the forums there are worthless. There is almost nothing there beyond forum trolls, and even if you do post something useful, it is quickly overrun with idiocy. It's too bad, I guess... But I live in hope and do check it occasionally, though I have yet to find anything worth while at all.
Blackhorn Mar 29th 2008 7:01PM
Checked mine a few times. Took about three threads to identify the trolls. People that dedicate their afternoon to trolling make forums a sad place.
Of course... I'd bet that the most likely candidate for checking realm forums would be people like myself who are at work and are desperate to break the boredom... even if it's just reading drama.
:(
I do feel all dirty inside after going to any forum though.
Dunwich Mar 29th 2008 7:17PM
Meh. They always seemed like condensed versions of the forum itself, which is to say a lot of moaning and drama mixed with ancient memes.
If it's that important, I'll hear about it in-game. Everything else is just blather and bullshit.
Ed Mar 29th 2008 7:27PM
I occasionally check mine (Hydraxis), but the signal-to-noise ratio is very low. Too many forum trolls and not enough useful information.
Squirrel007 Mar 29th 2008 8:41PM
ours is full of idiots spitting memes at each other and drama and bullshit
Post a thread and you will be shot down and called a faggot for no reason.
idiots -.-

The realm forums are essentially useless but for two types of people: those into the raiding game, and those seeking attention.
I do not care about server "progression," nor do I care what the raid guilds are up to. So, the realm forums are not useful in that respect to me.
The attention whores... I'll quickly learn about them in game, anyway, so the realm forums are not necessary there, either.
About the only possible use of the realm forums is to learn about people who might be able to craft something you need, and even that is something you can find out reasonably quickly just by asking around.
Kaljin Mar 29th 2008 10:22PM
My realm forum is full of drama.
Of course I read it.
Avaric Mar 29th 2008 11:25PM
The realm forums are a cesspool, I haven't bothered to read them in ages, and I've been playing almost since launch.
