Doom Lord Kazzak makes friends in 2.4
Everyone loves the new daily quests. They're fantastic! Fast, easy, good rewards. Spread across the world so there's always somewhere else to go if a spot is crowded. Absolutely awesome. The location of a couple of these daily quests has caused some inadvertent hilarity, though. The close proximity of the Throne of Ki'jaeden quests to Doom Lord Kazzak has sent the Hellfire Peninsula death toll skyrocketing. I was waiting for him to spawn for a few days, just to see how quickly he'd be taken down by people scrambling for gold, due to the changes to his loot. Specifically, making it all BOE.
I was lucky enough to be in the zone at just the right moment and was able to hear his very cool opening speech. Accompanying that speech, though? The dying screams of dozens of innocent questers. Music to my ears! I flew up to take a closer look at the carnage, and I stumbled across my favorite little detail of the entire thing. There was a Nightmare Vine spawn at the bottom of the ramp leading up to Kazzak. Just inches within his aggro radius. One by one, herbalists would deviate from their quests and run up to that Nightmare Vine, only to die horribly to the Doom Lord. Well played, Blizzard. Well played.
Snippets of my chat log behind the jump!

To sum up: Just because Kazzak isn't there right now, it doesn't mean he won't be there in about 30 seconds. Do yourself a favor and don't hold tea parties on the Doom Lord's spawn point. As for me? I'll be watching this Nightmare Vine from a safe distance on my gryphon, giggling like crazy.

I was one of the unfortunate herbalist that died horribly. I didn't even see him. I was dead and didn't know why until i res'd. And then when I res'd I had one of the demons on me immediately. Thank goodness for blink and invis.

on my realm everyone was sure Blizzard moved him to Northrend to keep an eye on the Lich King.
Sheppard Mar 29th 2008 3:46PM
Yep, I've been making gold and prot warriors have dragged him all over with a healer and killed everyone on my server.
Green Armadillo Mar 29th 2008 3:56PM
Yeah, I was wondering why people were aggroing him, and then I brought along a Herbalist and I learned.
If anything, I suspect the daily quest population may do a lot to make it harder to actually kill the guy. Guess I'll find out if he's still up tonight. :)

On karazhan EU in the morning it was funny getting the random 1.5k shadowbolt volley and hearing him yell "your own strength feeds me cockyhorde"

That piece of nightmare vine makes me a very happy troll, lol :)

Apparently Toe just didn't quite understand to get out of the way of the grumpy demon...
I loved with Kazzak was raiding all the major cities, and all the high-ends of the server were bitching out the lowbies that were wandering around. All of those black skulls were a sight to see!

i managed to get the nightmare vine, had to sacrifice a retarded druid though. Apparently there are enough people you can trick into beleiving he can be solo'd...

You just have to get someone to fly over him, and kite him away for a few secs. I suppose you can get the vine then - unless he volleys.
Actually, I've had some fun with this: aggro him, he volleys, I drop aggro by flying higher = a few dead questers.
Cuts down on the competition :P

Friend of mine was telling me how someone swooped in on his epic flyer long enough to agro Kazzak, drag him over to the questing area, and fly away while everyone who remained died horrible shadowy deaths at the hands of some shadow bolt volleys. While yes, the giggle factor is there with the nightmare vine spawn or the idiots seeing the giant demon and not knowing what he is or what happens if he's agroed, its really opened the door for griefers to wipe out the throne's questers.
What I'm waiting for, though, is the first time a raid is working on downing him and seeing how many people working on dailies he wipes out.

I read this earlier today and then proceeded to forget about Kazzak's aggro range as I ran to the nightmare vine.

I spent a good minute flying around in Swift Flight Form with a shadow bolt skull chasing me...lots of fun :)
Karla Mar 31st 2008 3:31PM
Hahaha, I tried to get the Nightmare Vine last night and aggroed him, but thankfully I was a druid with epic flight form so I was able to fly out of there just as quickly when I aggroed him. Thankfully he reset pretty quickly and didn't spend 10 minutes hollering across the zone - I hate listening to that. My guild got a good laugh out of it when I told them what I did though.

How much G are the world bosses in Outland dropping now?

Yeah I also died a few times my first day there. I'm also herbalist, hunter to boot, so nightmare vine is hard to resist. I died once then realized it wasn't going to happen. While i was doing the daily two others died trying to pick the herb. Good times!
