How Adam got his loot back
About a week and a half ago I reported on an experience I had in Mount Hyjal while fighting Azgalor. While the fight went fine and we did him in one try, I wasn't on Azgalor's threat list and thus did not get any loot. I wasn't on the threat table because I had to tank some spawned demons up and away from the rest of the raid. It was a rather nice conflict of game mechanics. This all happened on Tuesday, March 18th. By Saturday, March 22nd, I had the two shiny pieces of loot that were coming to me: Glory of the Defender and Onslaught Handguards. Specialist Game Master Skelend had sent me the items, along with a form letter apologizing for the issues we experienced in game. I was quite happy to see this resolved. I was even more pleased that it was resolved quickly and did not take a few weeks; as many people, both those of you who left comments and friends of mine that I talked to, said it would.
So what are we doing to make sure this never happens again? Well for one thing, all the melee is hitting the boss now with a ranged weapon after the tank gets a couple hits in. That's pretty much all we can do to assure this problem doesn't pop up again for us. Despite a few enquires I've made, there is no word from Blizzard if they've fixed this. I suspect that one day it'll just be hotfixed without much fanfare.
All in all, not a terrible experience when something went wrong. Quick and quality support from Blizzard.

My guild had a loot issue in Hyjal on Tuesday. Yesterday the person who was supposed to receive the loot linked his received item in guild chat. Blizzard was really quick at responding to my petition in game, support was EXCELLENT, and my guildie got his loot. Makes being an ML much better :)

"It was a rather nice conflict of game mechanics."
You spelt "I tanked in the wrong place." wrong.
I'll agree this shouldn't of happened, and glad you got your loot, but saying it's because of game mechanics would mean every other guild has the issue.

But it is game mechanics. By actively doing something necessary to the raid survival, he never appeared on the boss aggro table, preventing him from gathering loot, despite having performed a needed action in the raid.
Everyone hitting the boss once is not a solution, it's a workaround.

It's totally a game mechanic issue. I personally was under the impression that when a boss initiated combat, he issued a zone-wide pulse to make sure everyone in the raid group is in combat with him. I know that in combat =/= aggro table, but maybe if the pulse also gave everyone a total of one threat, it would stop this from happening in the future.

Before you go correcting people, you should probably be aware that "spelt" is not what you think it is. The word you want is "spelled."

Also to correctify(sic) a bit more, "Shouldn't have happened, and am glad you got your loot," but the awkward sentence structure would be better replaced by "I'm glad you got your loot and this shouldn't have happened but..."
Those in glass houses and all...

You spelt "Should've" wrong.

Allow me to /facepalm myself. I just woke up. But it would be Shouldn't have, not Shouldn't OF.

Glad to see you got your phat lewt.
I don't expect Blizzard to fix it though that quickly. They'll leave this bug for a few more months before fixing it. Maybe wait until WotLK and when no one is doing the instance any more.

Even the face on your chestpiece is smiling about the news

"So what are we doing to make sure this never happens again? Well for one thing, all the melee is hitting the boss now with a ranged weapon after the tank gets a couple hits in."
What about Ret Paladins? No ranged weapons or any real ranged attacks. Or no Ret Paladins allowed?

Try healing someone with a rank 1 Flash of Light. Healing gives aggro, ask your healers.

I still don't get it. Inside of instances and out, if a player in my group is anywhere close to me, they will get to loot the boss - even if they were AFK the entire fight. I guess if you were too far away, that might be why (and still needs to be fixed), but I'm not sure it's related to threat tables. How can someone who doesn't heal or attack get on a threat table to loot an item? Cause that happens to me all the time.

Grats on getting your loot back.
The only problem I have with this is:
Blizzard needs more consistancy on issues like this. If you're going to give some people their items back because of crap like this, then make sure every group that's experiencing this problem gets theirs back too.

The length of time a case like this takes to solve depends entirely on the queue length for specialists, otherwise known as the escalation queue.
I once encountered such an issue and a very nice Game Master explained it to me.
This escalation queue is NEVER more than a few days or so at MOST. If someone had to wait "weeks" for this to be resolved then they either closed the ticket or did not provide adequate information for the Game Masters to be able to look into it further. So, to get these handled efficiently, always keep the following in mind:
1. Provide the FULL item names.
2. Which mob dropped the item
3. Where are the items now (given to a player, or left on the mob?).
4. What time was the killing blow of said mob, be sure to specify it in server time.
5, If you know, who did the killing blow?
6. Who is meant to get the item.
7. DO NOT CLOSE THE TICKET! And this is important, every time you close your current ticket and make a new one, you get put in the back of the line. If the ticket is open, it will get answered as soon as it is the oldest in the queue.

A GM I spoke to also said not to modify the ticket, that resets its place in the queue.

i never thought id have to report a bug to Blizzard, but my day came last weekend.
levelled my draenei JC toon to 240 and learned a new item. necklace of the deep (orange item to craft). so i got the mats to make 2 of them, made one. no levelling. i thought it might be lag. so i made another one. still no levelling.
then i went and made a yellow item (infused shadow draenite) and i got a skill up to 241. WTF!
when i reported this via GM ticket and emailed wowgm@blizzard.com, the email reply said it was "working as intended".
fortunately, i know a bug when i see one, and re-reported the issue. and when i next logged in, a GM contacted me, and walked me thru the game UI settings. and confirmed that it was indeed a bug.
however, that's just the start. getting the bug reported. when will they fix it? will i get my 2 skill levels? it's still out there.
so if you are levelling a draenei JC, beware!

I still fail to see why this is a 'game mechanics' issue. If you're purposefully moving away from the boss to avoid involvement with him and to keep mobs away from other party members, isn't that a flaw in your tactics rather than the game mechanics?
