Priestess Delrissa, bringing a little PvP to your PvE
A brief glance at the Dungeons and Raids official forum last night was a bit of a surprise. The third boss in Magisters' Terrace has inspired a lot of hatred and arguing. Why is that a surprise to me? Well, it's becoming one of my favorite 5 man boss encounters in WoW! Either the QQ is going strong on the official forums, or I'm a complete and utter masochist. I'm leaning towards that second one, considering Blackheart the Inciter is my former favorite.
If you have never seen this encounter before, or don't know how it works, Eliah touches on it a bit in his Magisters' Terrace guide. Basically, it's a 5v5 arena match. You can't tank it, there are no threat tables. It's a game of control and survival. Priestess Delrissa, who is a Holy Priest, can spawn with four random friends, chosen from a pool of eight.
Those friends of hers can be any of the following:
Before I go on, I must admit that this fight is way harder if you get Warlord Salaris. Not impossible, not horrible. He just makes the fight take much more effort. He hits like a truck, Intercepts all over the place, and can spam Intimidating Shout. I'm not sure of the cooldown on his fear, but I have seen him chain it before. Not to mention he spamstrings, and Mortal Strikes cloth for about seven thousand. If you CC him you'll be just fine, but if he breaks loose for even a second or two he can turn the battle against you.
This fight is just downright exciting, I think. No tank and spank, no specific routine. My groups always clear the entire rest of the room first so we can use the entire area for kiting, fearing, all of that. Like PvP, the healers always go down first. A rush to Delrissa, move on to Apoko if we have him, then start picking apart the DPS one by one. If you have PvP gear, I recommend using it, but it isn't necessary.
As long as you don't approach this as a typical PvE encounter, it won't prove to be too difficult. If you're the tank, find other ways to be helpful like stuns, Intervene, Blessing of Freedom, or kittycat form. Be on your toes, be ready to run. Use LOS to your advantage, but don't LOS your healers. If you're having a hard time, just hang in there. The most important thing is to not become discouraged. If something isn't working for you, try something else. Change your CC targets. Change your kill order. Don't beat your head against the same thing repeatedly. Something as small as flipping your first and second kill targets can make this fight go from nearly impossible to smooth as butter.
Good luck, and I hope you guys start to enjoy this fight as much as I do!

I have to admit, I've never really played properly in a 5v5 or any other arena team really. But this boss fight is a blast, yeah it may be a bit more challenge and require some quick thinking and planning, but that's exactly what makes it so much more enjoyable. I love Blizzard for this. It's imaginative and fun. More stuff like this would be much welcomed in PvE (although within moderation of course)

I like how this pve encounter is slughtly pvp in nature and the carebear raiders cry bloody murder that it's too hard. Now imagine those mobs are controlled by people that are actively trying to counter everything you do and you'll get a little bit of an idea of why pvp is much harder than pve.

Not running MrT yet, but this really excites me. As long as the mobs have all the shortcomings of players I am fine, so as long as they can get poisoned, bled, stunned, silenced etc. I think it sounds like a great encounter and really lets you see who came to play.

Once I realized it was more like pvp than a boss fight I dawned my pvp gear (about 14k hp), got the felhound out and turned on soul link. Last one standing, but we pulled it off :).

We accidentally pulled Delrissa and friends in a pug I was in yesterday. I was on my poor under-geared mage, so I was worried for a second, but managed to sheep the right target apparently, Warlord Salaris, without even thinking.
My group was me, a mage, prot warrior, BM hunter, rogue, and holy pallie. Delrissa spawned with, as I said, Salaris, and then the hunter, the mage, and the engineer.
When we did the accidental pull, we fortunately had the area cleared out enough that we didn't get any other mobs. I'm not sure how or what order, but the rogue and our hunter took out the hunter, its pet, and the mage while I and the tank managed to take down the priestess and the engineer. Finally,we took out the naga who spent the fight sheeped... Which took a lot because besides hitting like a truck, he also has a lot of armor.
The entire pull was a mess. It felt like we interrupted our instance for an impromptu arena fight. But it really was fun, and went suprisingly well considering I had never met any of my group members before that day.

As a Survival-hunter i can CC three targets without to much effort.
But even though the Wyvern Sting will release after 12 seconds and one of the two Freezing Trap targets must be let go after 30 seconds, it still makes the fight more "manageble".

I love this encounter. We got the hardest bosses our first time through. We wiped once then realized how we had to fight it. The 2nd time we demolished them. I don't know why the pve'ers are complaining if you loose long enough you win right? Isn't that what you are always saying? PVP is easy mode right? Just keep loosing and I'm sure epics will fall from the sky. Oh is it because it's not utterly predictable scripted content? How horrible for you.

I have decided to never set foot inside MgT again.
My tank have 789 lifetime honor, collected in Silitus while leveling up. I do not PvP at all.
If people want to PvP they have all the opportunity to do so in BG or the Arena and I resent that I will be forced into playing PvP just because I want to go into an instance.
The fact that I sux at PvP and that few or none of my skills are any good in PvP makes me resent it even more.

As a lock, I have a ton of fun with this fight. I bring banish and fears to the table. We normally always run with at least one mage or rogue, so either sap or sheep there. If the hunter spawns and we have a druid tank, we'll also have hibernate and a short cyclone.
Just please god, don't let the fear run into the group of mobs!

as a "poor lock" who was banishing and seducing that entire instaince. (i'd rather chew tinfoil) this fight and this fight alone makes me still like running MrT.
I don't succy on it, she dies too fast and seduce doesn't stick well.
I sac the succy, banish if I there is a demon, and proceed to chain fear and volley another with one of the other DPS. Death Coil whatever is going for the healer and then automatically fear that and continue volley.
Best fight in the game. =)

Seduce doesn't work as many people have stated. I love this fight, it's the most fun 5 man encounter in the game. I play on a carebear realm but I leveled on a pvp to 70 before transferring for content. Seduce is useful in the early part of the instance if you need the cc but later don't bother and enslave a sister of torment and tank a magister with it, she'll win with minimal heal! Save her and take another group on after she's healed if you move quickly she won't break enslave. You can time it right and use her on this fight as well, though I usually bring out my felhunter and use it to grief Dalrissa or one of her healers adds should we get them. The warrior is a pain but he fears and if you can cc him out of action until the end even if you're the only one left as a lock you can just chain fear and dot until dead. Howl of terror and deathcoil are great here as well. I've often been the last one standing and I do mostly pvp season 1 gear as affliction/destro with around 11,500 health, plenty of mad alch potions, healthstones, battlemaster's audacity. As mentioned your shadowpriest can't mc here. Shouldn't every lock have a shadowpriest? He's my greatest dps boost both pvp and pve.

I love this fight, its a nice change from the normal "don't stand in the fire" or tank and spank. It requires many abilities not used in other places and needs the team to be awake, not just face-rolling on the keyboard. The whole instance is pretty good fun really. Well designed. Reminds me of older instances rather than the stagnant dull ones typical of many other TBC instances. Done it on both my warlock and my rogue now, and loved both.
