Breakfast Topic: The long run

I was, once again, leveling an alternate character. Since I already have three level 70s that I regularly play, I'm no longer fascinated by new bits of scenery. True I haven't seen it all, and I love the screenshots from Around Azeroth. I'm just really bored with the run from place to place.
As I was running across Ashenvale from Splintertree Post to Zoram Strand I began thinking about the marathon runs to pick up a new flight point. I came to the conclusion that my least favorite run is from Gadgetzan in Tanaris to Marshal's Refuge in Un'Goro Crater. It's just too long and unexciting. I know that I will have to make that run with every character I level. It always feels good to get there, just remember to pick up the flight point.
What's your least favorite run?

Northshire Abbey to Ammen Vale. At level 1. Both long and annoying if you managed to get killed along the way. Worth it for the better loot and quests though.

Hammerfall to Kargath

The worst!

I also agree with this nomination.
And to think I was going to vote for anything to do with Desolace.

Grom'gol to Kargath for those of us who didn't know better on our first character. I still remember the look on my roommate's face when he saw me heading towards Blackrock Mountain around level 42.
And the run to Silithus was REALLY annoying back in the day, since we didn't have the flight point in Un'Goro as a waypoint.
But of the walks I still have to take, Hammerfall to Kargath is a bad one, as is that walk out to the Zoram'Gar Strand from Splintertree Post (not so bad with a mount, but you're usually around level 18-23 when you take that run, so no mount). Undercity to Light's Hope Chapel is still annoying as well, though at least you only have to cross one zone in between and you have a mount.

I like the Hammerfall to Kargath run, especially on PvP servers. Running across the random ?? Alliance toon helping a lowbie level is a bit of masochistic fun... and the constant fear that you WILL run across the ?? Alliance makes the run a bit of a white-knuckle experience.

This run gets a little less painful if you take the transporter to Gnomeregan; you still have to run through two zones (Dun Morogh and Loch Modan) but it's definitely shorter than running from Hammerfall.
You can take the transporter by taking the Gnomeregan quest in Orgrimmar (in the Valley of Honor), and then going to Booty Bay to find Scooty. He will transport you to Gnomeregan and you can start running :-).

I missed out on the run to Kargath because I got portalled to Uldaman first... I'd highly recommend that before running it.

The run to tanaris, gadgetzan is a real time sink for any alliance character.
Atleast with ungorro you can jump off a cliff then bubble, soulstone, self res or slowfall your way down.

You can swim from Theramore to Steamwheedle Port in about 8 minutes and then run to Gadget.

By far my least favorite run is the trek from Darkshire to Raven Hill. It's not so bad the first time; but there are so many quests in Duskwood that require you to go back and forth and back and forth... As someone with Alt-itis I try to avoid leveling there altogether if I can.

Ugh, and when you don't know someone has spawned Stitches...

It's a shame too, because Duskwood is such a fun zone otherwise. But that one is awful. Many times I've just flown from Darkshire to Sentinel Hill and run back over to Duskwood/Raven Hill to save time.

If you are in Raven Hill and need to go to Darkshire then hop across the river to Westfall and then fly back to Darkshire. It is much faster.
Necromancer Apr 1st 2008 1:48AM
@15 Just use the Westfall flypoint. You'll save about 5 minutes of walking.

I think he's talking about "normal" runs. Moving from one starting zone to another is a given as far as long runs are concerned.
As for me, my absolute least favorite run is from Ironforge to Scarlet Monastery before you get the FPs or even from Southshore to Scarlet Monastery afterwards.
Milktub Mar 31st 2008 11:06AM
Having never played Alliance, I've always wondered how Alliance get to SM. I mean, it's down the road from Undercity for us Hordies. But from Alliance territory, do you have to go all the way from Southshore? If so, it must suck to do on a PvP server, since it forces you to go through the UC to Zepplin crossroads.
Slayblaze Mar 31st 2008 12:28PM
Yes. You have to run/swim all the way from Southshore.
jbodar Mar 31st 2008 10:23PM
And yes, it DOES suck on a PvP server, what with Hillsbrad being a warzone at all hours of the day.

Without a doubt it would be the run to the coast in Desolace to Shadowprey Village. In fact, any run in Desolace I despise. I'm no fan of that run from Splintertree to Zoram either.
