Breakfast Topic: The long run

I was, once again, leveling an alternate character. Since I already have three level 70s that I regularly play, I'm no longer fascinated by new bits of scenery. True I haven't seen it all, and I love the screenshots from Around Azeroth. I'm just really bored with the run from place to place.
As I was running across Ashenvale from Splintertree Post to Zoram Strand I began thinking about the marathon runs to pick up a new flight point. I came to the conclusion that my least favorite run is from Gadgetzan in Tanaris to Marshal's Refuge in Un'Goro Crater. It's just too long and unexciting. I know that I will have to make that run with every character I level. It always feels good to get there, just remember to pick up the flight point.
What's your least favorite run?

Theramore - Barrens - 1k Needles - Gadgetzan
I hate it!!
oh and to Desolace like someone mentioned.

The second worst had to be Gadgetzan to whatever that place in Silithus just inside the border is called. You know, back *before* there was a flight path at Marshal's Refuge... Now that was a killer. Even worse when you realised that it probably would have been easier and quicker to have gotten the flight path ten levels ago, just so you could get back to Un'Goro faster!
The very worst of all, however, is the Night Elf Druid level 16 Sea lion form quest. For those that don't know, it's Moonglade -> Auberdine -> Menethil -> Thelsammar -> Ironforge -> Stormwind -> Sentinel Hill -> Coast of Westfall, and *then* you have to find a ship that's sunken off the shelf in the fatigue zone, given the unimaginably vague directions you're given, and loot a chest from it.
Back before you even knew Thottbot existed...
It was so bad, that I used to make a habit of checking in /1 when I passed through Darkshore to see if any young druids needed help on the run. I must have run about half a dozen people through that.
If I ever meet whoever designed that quest, they'd better hope they're a Paladin and that Divine Shield and their Hearthstone are off cooldown...

The worst one ever is the road from crossroads to razerfen

I vote for Desolace as well, I hate that zone and refuse to level there anymore. And what is the deal with the Un'Goro run? Is there no way in there without dying? I've yet to find a path that doesn't end in falling death. Annoying.
Also +1 to the UC->Tarren Mill run. Ugh.

The trail down into un'goro is here, where I put the dot:

Worst one was the Pre-Marshall's Refuge run from Tanaris to Cenarion Hold. Talk about a pain.
Heilig Mar 31st 2008 9:11AM
Org to TB to pick up Mace skill as a young Orc Warrior is pretty rough. I dread that run on every toon.
Kuell Mar 31st 2008 9:26AM
My least favourite run is to Badlands as Horde. The worst run I had to make was picking up all the fp's on the way as i hadn't ventured my belf further than UC!

The one thing about a lot of posts here, is that you are posting runs that you are doing to simply make it hard on yourself .. why run from Darnassus to IF ... you don't HAVE to do that.
I'm sure what Amanda is referring to are the runs where you absolutley have to do, otherwise, you just can't carry on with the game.
If you want rediculous, ie, runs that you don't have to do, but are just doing to make it hard on yourself ... try Booty bay to Silvermoon City ;-) .... bring a good book :-D

BB->Ratchet->Ogrimmar Zep->Undercity->Orb->Silvermoon?
Even with a hearth down, that's easy.
Malyfactian Mar 31st 2008 12:46PM
Haha, they should call it the Azeroth Marathon. No mount-ups allowed. I wonder how long it would take at normal run speed...
Zali Mar 31st 2008 9:53AM
Well, once you have a mount, then ANY running is intollerable. I get fed up with playing my alts because of the runs. But, as this is the topic dejour:
As Alliance: Ashenvale to Stonetallon Peak is LONG and mob ridden.
Ashenvale to Ratchet on a PVP server. *shudder*
Any way you try to get to Gadgetstan is horrible. Whenever possible I just swim from Dustwallow Marsh because getting ganked 80 times in the Badlands and Thousand Needles just isn't fun.
IF to Menthil Harbor is rather long too... although I once got my hunter at lvl 9 up on top of the mountain and worked my way down the other side. Still can't recall how I got up there because it wasn't the normal way.
I could go on and list every single run to every single flight path pre-mount, but... oh wait. I think I already did.

Getting to the Badlands as a Horde character on a PVP server - when a few lvl 70s are hanging out in the wetlands...
Zali Mar 31st 2008 10:00AM
Of course now that I am older and wiser I find that some of the worst runs can be solved with a simple
/2 LF Mage Portal or Warlock Summon from DARN to SHATT! Will tip 5G.
How much time and grief has that post saved me? It is my alts very first post in a major city. Nothing better than having your hearth set in Shatt by lvl 5.

"From Gadgetzan in Tanaris to Marshal's Refuge in Un'Goro Crater. It's just too long and unexciting."
It's not even close to unexciting if you take the shortcut and run straight west from gadgetzan and jump down from the edge... use slowfall of some kind or simply take all of ur gear off and kill yourself and corpserun from Un'goro. BANZAAAAIIIIIIIIIII!!
The least favorite run? As a horde, the first time I'm running to Badlands. Arathi highlands -> Wetlands -> Loch Modan -> Badlands... I have done the mistake of running there without a mount only once, though. The good thing is the lowbie alliances and Greenwarden (killed Greenwarden every damn time i have seen him, sry alliances :P) in westfall, but still the length of the run is just crazy.
Staggerlee Mar 31st 2008 6:15PM
It has to be Sun Rock retreat to Shadowprey village,
Lizardking63 Mar 31st 2008 10:48AM
How bout as an alliance trying to do the Warlock Minion quests?...running all over the Barrens for the Succy, or going from Southshore to the Barrens again to get the Felhunter. The guy who designed those quests had to be a horde.
Xeren Mar 31st 2008 5:16PM
ah, that takes me back- the barrens seemed sooo far away at level 20. it was like i was embarking on an epic journey.
as much as i love being 70, don't some of you miss when azeroth just seemed GIGANTIC? i mean, it's still big, but not like it was when you were new and hadn't seen 80% of the zones in the game.
Soldat Mar 31st 2008 10:41AM
I'd have to vote for Alliance Paladins and Horde Warlocks. Nothing like being forced to run through a mid-30s zone to complete your level 20 class quest.
LavaWeb Mar 31st 2008 3:36PM
So funny you post this, I had to make that run to Zoram last night with my 24, was way to long and i figured out quickly to go around the pond...... oops...(Noob)
