Breakfast Topic: The long run

I was, once again, leveling an alternate character. Since I already have three level 70s that I regularly play, I'm no longer fascinated by new bits of scenery. True I haven't seen it all, and I love the screenshots from Around Azeroth. I'm just really bored with the run from place to place.
As I was running across Ashenvale from Splintertree Post to Zoram Strand I began thinking about the marathon runs to pick up a new flight point. I came to the conclusion that my least favorite run is from Gadgetzan in Tanaris to Marshal's Refuge in Un'Goro Crater. It's just too long and unexciting. I know that I will have to make that run with every character I level. It always feels good to get there, just remember to pick up the flight point.
What's your least favorite run?

Not a run as such but try falling off the edge of Teldrassil near the Oracle Glade when you're a ghost and having to swim all the way around the bloody island to get to Rut'Theran Village then across the island by land in order to resurrect. Not recommended. At all.
Xeren Mar 31st 2008 5:22PM
Haha, i've done that once- i fell off the little waterfall in the Northwestern part of the island- the fall down takes like 2 minutes, it's ridiculous.
But that's pretty cool that they actually made the zone that high up instead of just instancing it. when you look back at your lower levels and realize you were questing up in the sky, it's kinda cool.

Ive got even worse for you all.
The paladin level 20 mace quest as a Draenei.
Go from the exodar to auberdine.
Take the boat to menethil.
Run down to wetlands and loch modan.
Keep going down to IF.
Take the tram to SW's chapel.
Take the quest and keep going down to Westfall.
Save the woman and go back to SW's chapel.
Get the other quest and back down to Westfall.
Get the item from Deadmines
Go back to loch modan for the quest item there.
Take FP back to menethil.
Run all the way from menethil to Shadowfang keep (thats FOUR zones) and get the item from there.
Get back to kalimdor someway to get to Auberdine, down the zone to BFD and get the Quest item from there.
Then back all the way to SW to hand it in... and then back to IF.

Hammerfall to Kargath,
Sun Rock to Shadowprey
Trying to get a level 12 gnome from the Gnomeland through Dustwallow Marsh to get to Ratchet (I'm pretty sure there's an easier way to get to a neutral auction house, but it was my first ever ally side alt so I didn't know any better. Ten steps, aggro'd by a crocodile, eaten. Res, run back, repeat.)
All the way up through Felwood, and through the Furbolg tunnel in stealth, and then halfway across Winterspring to Everlook
Down through STV to Booty Bay with a low level ally (Horde's not so bad)
Undercity to Tarren Mill
Tarren Mill to Hammerfall, since you're probably a wee bit too low level for the zone (I know I always am) so everything's going to aggro from miles away.
Actually, pretty much any quest in Desolace at all for either faction is the worst run in the game, since whichever faction you are they've stuck the flight point away in one corner of the zone, and then made you run through an enormous zone (with deeply boring scenery) full of animals that want to kill you and eat you. Even to get to most of the Horde quests, in the outpost in the middle of nowhere with no flight point or inn, you have to run for ages. I hate desolace.

water totem quest chain... why do i keep rolling shamans?
biglou Mar 31st 2008 11:05AM
The long run to get the booty bay FP, especially when you're in lour 20's with no escort.
Frank Mar 31st 2008 11:11AM
wow, no mention of azshara? that's FULL of awful runs. but i have to say, duskwood gets my vote. awful, awful, AWFUL.
Mage_Pol Mar 31st 2008 11:18AM
On the Horde side it had to be from STV to SoS...running through all those Alli zones was a 'mare!

My very first toon ever was a Nelf hunter, I was a total noob to all things MMORPG as my game of choice to that point was Baldur's Gate.
At level 15 I decided I needed a new weapon, and heard SW was where I needed to go for swords, so I hoped on the boat in Darkshore, got off in the wetlands, ran down through Loch Modan, into Dun Morogh. I didn't know about the tram, so I headed out towards SW. I tried running THROUGH the mountains in the south of Dun Morogh and couldn't... /sigh. So i made the run through the badlands, searing gorge, blackrock, redridge and finally elwynn forest. Took me about 2 hours to make the trip. Once in SW I realized I forgot to get the IF FP and sadly made the trip AGAIN all the way back. In IF I asked in general for an easier way, and almost cried when a lvl 60 (pre-TBC of course) showed me the tram.

I have to agree, tauren horde water totem quest.
Maliboo Mar 31st 2008 12:34PM
I'd have to say the Theramore to Gadgetzan run is a good 20 min run.
Malyfactian Mar 31st 2008 12:53PM
Theramore/Barrens/Stonetalon/Desolace run is longer. I ran that with my lvl 38-ish paladin and it took every bit of an hour.
Rwor Mar 31st 2008 12:35PM
I usally do the UC to Sepulcher to TM to Hammerfall on a lowish char, its the one i hate the most, especially been on a pvp server
arcady0 Mar 31st 2008 1:05PM
Gadget to Marshall is long?
That one's easy.
Try Hammerfall to Kargath. You got to run through stunty-lands for ages... and they all go in a panic thinking you're there to raid them, and send all their level 70 buddies off to Crossroads to 'get even with you' - PO'ing every lowbie on your server who does a /who and finds out its you that got the roaches to scatter again...
I usually do this one at level 20-25, just so people will do nothing more than try to 'PvP-camp me' as I run through (you know, and the alliance tards that follow you in a long chain flagging PvP and spamming /rasp or /chicken waiting for you to do something stupid - sometimes you can keep them in a train through almost a full zone). :p
On an alliance toon, I guess the real PITA is Darnassass/ Exodar to Ironforge, but any idiot can do it at level 8 solo - and I have countless times (thus proving the idiot theory).
Funny that both runs I've picked pass through the same territory.
Shortest run in the game: Level 1 troll to Booty Bay. All you do is log in and turn south, go over a hill, get on a boat. Amazes me that so few people know they can do this. I had fun on the new Cairne server standing around in Booty Bay on launch day, till nobody else showed up...

i just wanted to weigh in regarding Desolace.
Desolace was actually my FAVORITE area of the game. I liked the wide open feeling. I always figured when they allow us to build our own houses, I'd build mine there.
A long run through Desolace is a lot more pleasurable for me than in more populated areas because of the feeling of open-ness and solitude.
For me, the problematic run was in Stranglethorn Vale BEFORE they put the Ally flight path in that Northern camp. The run from Booty Bay to some of the quests in northern SV was hell, and I usually flew into Darkshire to get to them.
Meira Mar 31st 2008 3:08PM
I really hate, but hate with heart, the Duskwood run Raven Hill to Darkshire and vice-versa... so boring without a mount...
And I, for fun, took a lvl 1 NE to SW... by this via: Darnassus-->Auberdine-->Astranaar-->Charred Valley-->Kodo's Graveyard-->High Wilderness-->Great Lift-->Ratchet-->Booty Bay-->Rebel's Camp-->Raven Hill--> Sentinel Hill -->Goldshire-->Lakeshire-->Blackrock Mountain-->Thorium Point-->Uldaman-->Thelsamar-->Kharanos--> Ironforge-->SW... it's a really nice walk, 4 hours and 100+ deaths... but the views of skull-leveled mobs are so beutifull :P
Acrowley Mar 31st 2008 4:22PM
As an Alliance player, I have to vote for (Night Elf) from Menathil Harbour to Ironforge. Usuallt around lvl 15 -18.
Its a long walk and there are quite a few mobs (20+) along the way. Also, from Ashenvale forrest to Ratchet. This is particularly hazardous due to being on a PVP server. (I usually stay up untill the wee small hours if I need to make this run with a char.)
stonehead Mar 31st 2008 4:42PM
For Ashenvale to Ratchet, I took the road toward Azshara, hopped in the river and swam all the way to Ratchet. Didn't die once, but it did take a good 30 mins.
tkc Mar 31st 2008 7:10PM
Least favorites:
The cookbook run. That would be from Auberdine to Astranaar and then to that place by the lake to get the cooking 150 book. As usual, I'll then run to Ratchet to get that FP and then boat to BB to get that one. It takes about 30 minutes.
The run from Ratchet, down the elevator, over to the Feralas FP and then to the Tanarsis FP.
The run up to the Scarlet Monestary from South Shore.
It is the long walks that I despise. The FP at the Rebel Camp has made STV sooooo much more bearable.
meegeekai Mar 31st 2008 7:36PM
For a noob dwarf the first run though Wetlands to Menthnil is the worst, especially after the pain of Loch Modan. My first exploration of Wetlands got me up to the Thandol Span and while screwing around exploring I actually fell off the bridge, had to swim back around to Wetlands and into an area that was way over my level. I just see those roadsigns with new names on them and can't resist the urge to look around. SM to Light Hope Chapel is another eye opener at low levels, not counting on just getting to SM as alliance to begin with.
