Extended maintenance for April 1st, 2008

There will be extended maintenance today, April 1st, on all the realms from 3:00 a.m. PDT until 11:00 a.m. PDT. Hopefully this will fix many of the issues appearing over the past week – and just give the servers some breathing room. There have been many bugs reported, some of which you can read about in the various hotfixes that have been pushed onto the servers in the past week.Also, this downtime is not an April Fool's joke. It has been expected.
Of course, we don't know what the Blizzard April Fool's joke will be yet. When we do find out, we'll get word up right away here at WoW Insider.

Nah, too easy, lol. It'd have to be like realm specific for it to really get people riled up. Something like...
"Due to a server malfunction, Arthas has lost all of it's character information and will reset."
That'd piss off too many gullible people though and make the lives of the support people a million times worse.

Also, it's more extensive than just that -- words/punctuation is modified; there's lol/lulz/kekekeke/ added to peoples' posts.

umn has anyone noticed on the wow site that there is a new april fool hero class announced (Bard) as well as a consol version of wow called moleten core.
First is obviously an april fools but the second one could be real

This patch has caused many people to have bad graphical errors and crashes. Hopefully tech support and engineering have figured out what is going on, and can fix this issue on blizzards side instead of telling players to run in opengl mode and with sound off mode and to delete their WTF folders.
Hopefully this is the reason for the extended maintenance.
