Patch 2.4.1 available for download
Extended Maintenance has begun, and it looks like a small patch has come with it. Patch 2.4.1 is less than 5 megabytes, and looks to mostly fix a few bugs with the combat log (including that annoying one where no settings were saved), sound, and shading, as well as a bug with Tranquilizing Shot. There might be more undocumented changes, of course, but we'll have to wait until the servers come up to see that.
Patch notes after the break!
Hunter
- Tranquilizing Shot no longer incorrectly restricts use of other Hunter
abilities in specific situations.
User Interface
- Combat Log
+ Only the last 300 combat log entries are now stored.
+ Filter settings are now properly saved.
+ Changing zones will no longer reload the entire log
Bug Fixes
- Fixed a sound engine error that was causing lock-ups on exit.
- Fixed a shader error that was causing kernel panics on Mac PowerPCs.
- Fixed a bug on Mac that was preventing the intro Cinematics from
playing.
There you have it. Short and sweet. We'll see you on the other side of maintenance, and if we discover any undocumented changes, we'll be sure to let you know!

Well that at least makes me feel better that it wasn't my computer's fault that I had two kernel panics since the patch.

All lies!
First rule of April Fools day! Never believe a thing from blizzard.
PS: They still haven't fixed the sound issues have they?

I hope so, I haven't been hearing most in-game sound since 2.4 hit.

I'd be willing to bet that this is legit. The 4/1 stuff appears to be the MC console game and the bard class. I'm just really hoping that the log reload fix is actually there...

I've found that turning off Hardware Sound fixes the issues. From the look of things, Blizzard is using a new/updated sound library that doesn't work well with hardware sound drivers.
Unlike, you know, every other piece of software I have ever used on my computer. Or any of my previous ones going back to the days of DOS where getting any sound at all was no small miracle.

They are going to replace all the NPC's In shatt with either hostile bears or tuskarr. Don't aggro Ad'al he hits for almost 100k

THANK GOD for that sound engine fix. I really was freaking out, I thought something was wrong with my machine. Good to know I won't have to lay down any bank to fix the problem.

When will they get to the hottfix for the chat settings that reset whats shown in each window every time you log out...

I couldn't hear a lot of in game sounds after the patch, but I quickly resolved that by unchecking the hardware box in the sound settings. FYI, just because you have a creative soundcard, doesn't mean it has a hardware decoder. Some of these are the Audigy value and xfi extreme audio.

If only the last 300 entries are stored, wowwebstats is going to be severely affected.
Robert H Apr 1st 2008 9:58AM
In the old combat log, there was a script function to increase this for stats addons. I am not a mod developer but maybe someone who is can comment on this function working in 2.4?
Itsnoteasy Apr 1st 2008 10:04AM
WWS will be unaffected. WWS relies on the external combat log: that is, the Logs\CombatLog.txt file where WoW dumps *all* combat events. This is just talking about the events it keeps around in-game (ie: how far back you can scroll.)

perfect, i hope to see some performance improvements.

For some reason, my macro to use my trinkets:
/use [modifier:shift] 13;14
no longer works.
