I have a mage on a pve server and I rolled a lock on a pvp server to see what it's like.
I got attached to the lock but my first ganking I had was when an orc 60 (preBC) rode past and just swung his sword/axe without stopping like we do to critters sometimes and one shotted me.
I hated the pvp and it's not about fair play, the opposite faction would go about in pairs or more and are 10 or more level above - skull level or ?? so I had no chance.
Also questing became more difficult and frustrating. When my lock reached 60 I mothballed him until paid server transfers became possible and transferred to the same server as my mage.
At the end of the day, I rolled on the wrong server and I leave pvp to those who like that sort of thing. I know that pvp on my pve server is still enormously popular amongst my guildies.
I recall an incident on Illidan server where a horde player died in RL and her guildies held a "funeral" (I forget where) and were ganked by an alliance raid which was thought by many to be in poor taste. My guildies when they learned of it thought it was cool and would have participated if possible. I think opinions are divided on if that's in poor form or just life on a pvp server.
Rydo.
