No chests in MrT, and that's just fine with Blizz
Here's something that didn't really hit me on the first few times through Magisters' Terrace: there are no loot chests in the instance. Eleste of Frostwolf asks why, but Drysc only answers "why not" -- apparently Blizzard isn't too bothered that the only loot to be found in the instance is on dead mobs.Which isn't exactly new -- not only are chests open to many exploits, but Blizzard has slowly been taking steps away from putting random caches of loot out there for anyone to grab. In the last patch, they even made it so that chest loot gets rolled on, so it's probably a fair guess to say that most loot chests are on their way out of the game.
They weren't in there for no reason -- Blizzard wanted to make it so that after toppling a group of mobs, you could be lucky enough to spot an extra stash of loot to grab all for yourself (not to mention that they give Rogues something else to do in instances). But apparently the problems of loot chests outweigh the positives, and it's probably true that MrT is a preview of Wrath -- loot chests are going to be rarer than ever.

But... there are chests in Outland. The article you linked to is wrong, or at least it's wrong now. I've grabbed stuff out of a couple dozen by level 68.

rogues screwed again lolcats
lol.

Yeah, there are chests in outland now. Most people don't know that though because they don't look like the standard chest we've seen four 70 levels.
Either way... Remove all chests, increase Lockbox droprates. That'd work too.

There are also no Primal Nethers in Magisters' Terrace. I posted on the official bug forums and have had no response. Does this sound normal to you?

Considering that Kael drops high end 25 man quality epics in a 5 man instance, I'd say no nether is a fair trade

I noticed this first time through, I assumed it was an oversight.. Then again MrT has quite a few changes versus older instances - far less trash, epics off all bosses in heroic etc..

Chests make you kill more mobs, give you random potions/food/drink that you wouldn't otherwise get, and is a guaranteed drop. Now that it's rolled on, it's a lot less of a problem than it used to be.
Besides, gives rogues something to do. Sometimes it's the most use I get out of being in an instance :P

Hahahah I know that feeling.
They should be putting more locked stuff into the game, not less.
The rogue class (whilst fun) is basically pointlessly. It has two important abilities - dps and lock picking.
I hate lockpicking but at least it makes us feel useful now and then. I could live with just the dps abilities if the mages didn't do it better. ;-)
QQ - I know, I know.

The loot in magister's terrace is better. Some might say way better.
Also, nethers aren't binding anymore, and also, everyone and their brother is running MrT now.
I like it as is with these differences :)

playing a rogue or not, i like the random chance of loot in a chest. often seeing a chest in a group of mobs will get me to kill off the mobs for the chest instead of bypassing them for some easier route, which of course = more xp and loot overall.
is it just me or did blizz change chests in instances to all be locked? enchanting alt ran some low level instances and found every chest locked. made me regret ditching engineering for enchanting. :(

Please stop calling it MrT. That's so ridiculous. It's MgT. Everyone I know on three different servers agree: it's MgT. It just makes more sense because it "sounds" right when you look at it. MrT is silly. On our server, you get laughed at if you call it that. It's MgT, please!
Ophelos Apr 2nd 2008 8:00PM
yep i agree with you there, MrT does sound really stupid.
When i first read the headline of this post, i almost didn't feel like reading it because it said MrT..

Its MrT on our server as well. Lighten up a bit people, life isn't THAT serious.

they don't need a chest in MrT, on heroic every boss drops an epic
Gimmlette Apr 3rd 2008 2:51PM
I didn't realize there wasn't a chest in MgT until I read this. My group was too busy with the mobs and the bosses to realize there wasn't a chest.
If all chests are locked, which might lower the chance of someone turning up naked outside Slabs, have a random trash mob drop a master key for the instance quests. I liked the idea of having to roll on stuff in chests. It slowed the ninjas who would then get golden apples, wool and silver bars instead of the nice greenies.
On my server, it's called MgT and MrT. Generally, if you post "LF1M, dps, MrT", you get rounds of "I pity the fool who..." or "Elf Mohawk!" If you post "LF1M, dps, MT" and then say it's for MgT, you get plenty of "corrective comments".
