The lolcats have been lifted

But no, things are back to normal, and all of the "lol wut"s that you see on the forums are players' own fault.

Of course, that was just distraction from Blizzard's real April Fools joke, when you were sitting at the login screen looking at the notice telling you: "All servers are live and available for play."
Naix Apr 3rd 2008 10:27AM
That was a hoot lolcat roflmao kekeke.
robotrock Apr 2nd 2008 5:04PM
your joke sucked, theirs was at least funny :P
Matthew Apr 2nd 2008 5:18PM
Heh, I thought it was pretty funny. I lol'ed IRL.
Milktub Apr 2nd 2008 11:07PM
I thought it was funny, for a few minutes. But the majority of my work day (I do sales ... talk about a boring job with lots of wasted time) is on the WoW forums, so that day was pretty awful.
However, reading long, serious QQ threads were amazingly funny. Makes it even more difficult to take someone seriously when their 2,000 word diatribe about the perceived lack of attention to their class is punctuated by "I lol'd IRL" and "lolwut".

Funniest part of the blizzard joke was that you could hardly even tell a difference in a lot of posts. Sad commentary on the forums, say thankee
I think it really highlighted how inane some of the QQ posts on there really are as well.

i absolutely agree with you lolcat roflmao kekeke.

I think this was a great year of tricks and pranks and can only hope next year will be just as good
Calaana Apr 2nd 2008 6:37PM
My guess as to why it took so long is similar to why the bonus honour battlegrounds go a bit longer than the weekend - america isn't the end all of time zones i lol'd IRL.

This AFD was awesome for WoW. I really think some people need to get the sticks out of thier asses and learn how to have FUN. I for one enjoyed the forum stuff, especially since I'm on an RP server-- thusly seeing everyone's in-character stories invaded with 'lolcats' and all that jazz. Very hard to take serious posts seriously (and on top of that, we have a lot of drama going on).
People need to go outside once in a while. I'm looking at you people who kept giving WoWInsider crap for the HKO makeover.
Schadow Apr 2nd 2008 7:26PM
You may be getting the reasoning wrong. WoW Insider is good at reporting on things going on within the WoW community, so naturally it seems like it would be a good place to go to see what fun AFD stuff is going on at various places including forums, other sites, etc.
Unfortunately, they chose to drop the ball on that and became Hello Kitty Central. I think that's the real reason people were annoyed at the HK stuff.
I think all would have been fine and dandy if they did a mix of the two - keep the feature articles ("How to be a Warrior Tank", "The Art of Not Walking After a Wipe" and "Why Hybrids Should STFU") centered on HK, and keep the news content of what's going on elsewhere so we can all have a bit of fun on the day.
The real AFD option that would have been hysterically funny would have been a bit of self-satire, with every feature article being Warrior-centric. "What Spell Hit Means to Warriors", etc.

True enough, and I agree with your points.
Side note: I'm always 'headdesking' (for lack of a better term) when people outright maliciously insult the site and the authors so I'm kind of biased towards WoWinsider. Like seriously, if one hates this site so much and the authors, why come here in the first place? If it's AFD, what would you really expect.
But back on track, yea, your idea of a better AFD would have been a bit 'better'.

after the wisp incident (all you people who played pre BC know what I'm talking about) I don't think I'll truly believe anything that blizz says : P.
Donzauker Apr 3rd 2008 4:27AM
Thank you for this post! I entered my realm's forum for the first time on April 1st, and I was flabbergasted at the amount of lol derivations in the text. I thought I was just too old for this scene, but now I'm reliefed and can go back :)
Bloodthorn Apr 3rd 2008 4:22AM
in the beginning I actually just thought this was some awfull trend on the american forums (being european I don't go there much). glad to find out it wasn't, cos it was horrible :p
Jamie Apr 3rd 2008 5:32AM
I'd like it if they came back and said: What? We disabled it hours ago!
Kaylek Apr 3rd 2008 3:58PM
No, HKO Insider was still a stupid, stupid joke worthy of anger and rage.
gareth Apr 4th 2008 10:21AM
lol
Ok seriously though I loved the joking around, however if you are one of those people who got all hot under the collar when Blizzard and WoW insider did all the daft April fools jokes then you really need to step back and ask yourself why you are so stressed out.
Do that and I guarantee yourself you'll enjoy life all the more.
