Slouken: no rollback of combat log but other UI changes are no joke
On April Fools' Day, amongst our extensive HKO coverage, Daniel Whitcomb reported that the combat log changes introduced in Patch 2.4 were being rolled back in Patch 2.5. Slouken has since indicated that he was "just kidding", as Daniel had guessed. So the combat log will not be rolled back and there may not be a Patch 2.5 before Wrath of the Lich King.
He did say, however, that the UI changes that were to happen in the fictional 2.5 will in fact happen in WotLK. Specifically, the arguments "this" and "argN" will be phased out of the Blizzard UI in favor of "self" and other local arguments. Slouken recommends that authors start using "self" in the meantime, so that they will be prepared for when the expansion comes out.

Man, wow insider is definetly my favorite website, however, it seems lately the posts have been lacking in content. Today there wasnt even a breakfast topic this morning and theres only been like 3 posts total today.

All the bloggers must be busy completing the daily quests to push there respective servers closer to the next phase!
How about an early afternoon topic...
Just how far should April Fools Jokes Go?
I think everyone can probably imagine the rest...

You fail to explain this one to your users, it's just programming jibberish to them.
Simply put, this will speed up the default UI and any addons using these handlers (nearly every addon does). It won't be a significant increase, you probably won't even notice, but it'll make all us devs feel warm and fuzzy to know the code is running as fast as possible.

He didn't explain it because, frankly, anyone who doesn't already understand it just doesn't need to know. Knowing helps them in no way, shape, or form.

Huh? You seem to assume that people would rather not be informed. I appreciate knowing the reason "why" changes are made, not just what they are regardless.

I thought it was pretty obvious. The average Joe should be able to get what it means to them while not exactly understanding what it is.

great, i'll look forward to the new re-re-re-rebroken omen and recount.

Hmm, running things like that as an April Fool is kinda risky isn't it? It's not so outlandish that it wouldn't be believed and it could filter out into other sites as fact, be a detriment to peoples attitudes to WoW and never get rectified. :/

As for the possible patch 2.5, isnt it likely that we'll see a WotLK content patch before the expansion, similar to 1.12 or whatever it was before TBC?
By content I mean new item models, putting transport routes to Northrend into existing Azeroth etc. I'm pretty certain we have at least one full patch before WotLK, but I don't think there will be any new content instance-wise.

That would be 3.0, the patch put out just before the expansion to get the game ready for it.

While I'm excited about Wrath coming out, it isn't even in beta yet, and I can't imagine it will be ready before Christmas. Nine months without any new content would rather suck. I can't imagine there won't be at least SOME new stuff, even if it's not billed as 2.5.
