Downgrading your account (or not)
If you're one of those folks who pines for the days of level 60 and Molten Core, but you've already installed Burning Crusade and made your way to 70, Slorkuz (who?) officially tells us you're out of luck. Once an account has been upgraded to Burning Crusade, there is no going back -- even if you uninstall everything and just put vanilla WoW on your PC, trying to sign in with your BC upgraded account will open up Outland and the latest content yet again. If you really want to see the world the way it was before the Dark Portal reopened, you'll have to create a new account, and not upgrade it to Burning Crusade. But even then, you won't really go back in time -- you'll still see gems on the AH, and Blood Elves and Draenei wandering around. It's one more reason to keep asking Blizzard for classic servers, apparently -- as of right now, there's no way to really go back to the way things were.
But why would you want to anyway, right? Gold abounds, epics are easy to get, and most of the PvP problems are fixed. Nostalgia may be telling you that you want to stumble around with 39 other people in Motlen Core hoping for a Tier 1 drop every two weeks, but for most people, things are much better nowadays.

I never understand why people want this. Just go back and play Chrono Cross again, or something, if you want to live in the past.

Seriously. And even if they do, why does WoWInsider insist on rehashing it every couple of weeks? There are so many stupid posts on this site about whining to Blizzard to add some random thing they have decided should be added.
Please stop whining about:
1. Classic Servers
2. Adding Panderans
3. The tank "shortage"
4. How hard it is to RP
5. Ninja /gquits
6. Heroic versions of old instances
7. Flying in Azeroth
It's not that these aren't valid WoW related articles, but how many freaking times do you guys have to regurgitate the same crap? Does anyone know of a WoW information site that covers all of the NEW WoW news, AND has insightful original content? I feel like I'm stuck with you WoWinsider, but please be mindful that any sort of competition will obsolete you.

My favorite are the people who insist they want to go back to how the game was "before the blood elves and draenei"
Mmm fantasy game racism. Hilarious.

Coming over here, stealing our raid spots, farming our mobs, cybering our womens!
Send 'em back where they came from, I say.
Alchemistmerlin Apr 4th 2008 3:53PM
Wait...but then where do we send the Blood Elves?
Nick S Apr 4th 2008 4:13PM
dey're takin our jerbs!!!
Matt Apr 4th 2008 5:59PM
OUR JERRRBSS...oh wait /run hands through hair, im a blood elf....muahahahah
old heroic content would be cool...but classic servers and flying is azeroth would be eh...kinda annoying...imagine the gank fest on pvp...
Psychosis Apr 5th 2008 7:43AM
dey took our mobs!
Marc Apr 4th 2008 3:47PM
Personally, I think there should be heroic keys for all the previous instances. I'd love to do a heroic Deadmines. I think it would be cool.
Gessilea Apr 4th 2008 5:08PM
This was asked at Blizzcon. The answer is that it takes a lot of developer time to create a heroic dungeon - it's not just a matter of changing a couple of numbers - and they figure people would rather have new content, in general. I'm pretty excited about Naxx being in the next expansion though. Hardly anyone ever saw that place, unlike, say, Deadmines.
Milktub Apr 4th 2008 3:48PM
I wonder if Blizz would consider it harassment if people on a server made a concerted effort to drive the Blood Elves from the server? Like refusal to let any BElf into a group or guild, not purchasing goods or services from Elves, etc.
Killah Apr 4th 2008 3:52PM
How to solve that problem: Don't let BEs and Dreaneis allowed to be created. There! Problem solved!
Dunwich Apr 4th 2008 3:52PM
Actually, I don't think there'd be a problem with it. I've seen race-specific guilds before on RP servers, so I doubt they'd react to it.
I imagine there's more pressing problems with real-world prejeduce in-game than a Blood Elf priest being rejected in favour of a Troll one on account that the Troll one isn't as camp as a row of tents. Pink, frilly tents.
Alchemistmerlin Apr 4th 2008 3:55PM
I doubt blizzard would care, only because I doubt more than 5 people would join in this attempt on any given server.
"Dey turk our epiks!"

This was @6, oops.
wtb "Delete" button.

I think its more of remembering the time when they first started the game and the nostalgia with that... hearing the opening sequence music on the login screen from the original game still gives me goosebumps.. it makes me remember that feeling all over again

Why go back?
BECAUSE WE WANT TO.
Many people people belive this game took a NOSEDIVE when the BC expansion was released and has never really had the same grandeur it once had.
Zul Gurub ->Molten Core -> Onyxia -> Blackwing Lair -> AQ20/40 -> Naxx were tangible, logical progressions that people worked for. Each raid had a purpose and properly equipped you for the next one. Each one was progressively more challenging and each one fairly rewarded people.
And Casual gamers had Strath/Scholo/LBRS/UBRS/Dire Maul and the Upgradeable Dungeon 0 gear to PuG away with.
People were happy. There weren't all these goofy Reputation grinds or Welthfare Epics. You earned everything you owned.
THAT'S Why a lot of people want WoW 1.0 back.
Eleazar Apr 4th 2008 5:29PM
lol, this is pure hilarity. It will never happen anytime soon. Go find something else to play.
Matthew Rossi Apr 4th 2008 5:31PM
Considering I tanked up to Naxx, I have to disagree with you. I wouldn't go back: I enjoy the new races, the new dungeons, and the alternative paths to gearing even though I'm set firmly on the 'raid for progression' path myself.
Lab Monkey Apr 4th 2008 4:15PM
I just wish they'd made 55-60 relevent by not having the first Outlands green drop replace your Old World epic you finally scored only days earlier. A reason to even talk to the Argent Dawn would be nice too, let alone grinding rep with them. Surely they can add new content without killing the existing? Hope they don't make the same error with WotLK.
