A warrior and his spirit gear
For some reason on my home server, Eldre'Thalas, when folks see a tank standing around in Shattrath without anything to do, they immediately start sending tells asking if I want to go tank such-and-such an instance for them. I don't mind it when my friends or guild mates do it, but it does get a little annoying when complete strangers do it constantly. So I've come up with a solution: spirit and intellect armor. Whenever I'm doing anything other than fighting, I'm wearing bright yellow spirit and intellect armor that I got off the AH. I spent about a hundred gold on this dastardly set. It looks awful, it smells awful, and it's a great repellent for annoying unsolicited LFG tells.
I got the idea from looking at people's gear who are apping to my guild. Some of it was just plain nuts – spirit gear on Warriors, "of stamina" gear on Priests, things like that. Of course, they might have just been logged out in that gear the same way I'm logged out in mine right now. But when you're apping to a guild and one of the requirements is to log out in PvE gear for the next week, well, too bad so sad for them.
While this has solved the problem of annoying LFG tells, it has created another one. "What the $@%% is with your gear? Are you a $@@#$!@1!" asks one Mage. "Um... did you buy your character off ebay?" questions a Paladin. These make me laugh more than anything, so they're easy to ignore.
I'm interested to know if any of you out there are sporting a joke gear set. Share and enjoy!

There's actually a somewhat practical use for warrior spirit gear. If you've got an extension like Outfitter loaded which can change your clothes depending on situations - set the spirit gear to "dining" and anytime you stop to eat you can regenerate your health faster.

True, but not really.
I loose about 11k unbuffed health when I put on the spirit gear, so the amount gained by natural +health-per-second is completely negated (and then some) by the decreased health.

Its never really worked for me. I've had healing everything on my Paladin and I still got tells "Hey can you tank [insert instance here]?" every time I log in and after I reply holy... well I can't put in what gets sent back here in this family blog.

Pre-BC I wore the Wildheart Kilt for a year on my rogue cuz the SC pants never dropped. I was known as the rogue in a dress on my server.

I just wear my tuxedo everywhere.

i've seen a human in that gear in Alterac Valley once. Me and a buddy couldn't help but think "wtf, is this dude crazy ?"

Doesn't that mean you have to carry around a whole set of crap? Just take it all off! No one's going to ask a naked guy to do anything. Anything useful anyway.

This is so awesome and funny of an idea I might have to dust off the old enchanted gold bloodrobe on my lock and pop a +spirit enchant on it, or maybe buy some cheap +spirit armor and strut around shat like that. :) On my dps warrior, I'll have to get a tux or some robes and a staff, ooh, I'll stack spell damage on him for the dreaded 'thunder clap spec'. This is just too hillarious an idea, even better, and much funnier than putting rare or epic leg armor kits on my level 2 bank toon's tux pants.

I've tanked so many damn PuGs on my server that every time I sign on, I get 10-15 whispers from people I've never heard of. My favorite tactic is to log out in +spell damage gear wielding Flurry Axe and Skullflame Shield. All joking aside though, even craptacular sets do have some interesting uses: like +int set for raising weapon skill levels.

ill have you know, i'm making a attack power set for my warlock.
so far he has a shard of azzinoth and several other little trinkets, but it is hard to find good stuff since blizz made it less common to get of the bandit cloth items and such.

For a while I was trying to put together a melee DPS set for my priest, but I just couldn't find enough gear.
I also won a greed roll for the Vest of Elements on my warrior and decided it would be fun to try to collect the whole set...primarily because he's a gnome and it would be awesome to have a mini-shaman to run around IF.

I have 4/8 Magister's on my Rogue. I'd like to complete the set, eventually.

What is the point of the links in this article? I'd like to know. The only thing I can think of is that you feel it necessary to have a bunch of links, and it doesn't matter what they are for. Is there a link quota on Wow Insider?

I find the whole spirit of this blog post mildly offensive. I mean how dare players try to put together instance groups, right? How dare they want to explore content, get gear, and in general play the game with other people, am I right?
I mean honestly, since every player who is even mildly interested in running an instance always makes sure they're listed in the LFG, no one should ever need to whisper random people for groups. There are always tanks in the LFG, so Warriors especially should never have deal with such messages. And of course, no one has ever replied to an unsolicited group invite with an affirmative reply, so obviously such a tactic is a complete waste of time.
Honestly, Death Knights cannot arrive soon enough. Here's to hoping that their best PvP spec is also their best tanking spec. A completely unrealistic hope, I know, but I'll keep my fingers crossed that Blizzard can learn from their mistakes.

I wish you were right about Tanks always being in LFG. It's simply the difference between realms that keep this from happening. Some realms are heavy on tanks, others on healers, and getting a tank has been the #1 problem on any Tortheldrin PUG. (Then again, I have a healer, so I never experience the terrible feeling of looking for a healer.)
But, note to the post: Stamina gear is essential for priests. Behind... Healing > Spirit > Int > Stam. How would we ever survive awful tanks or unavoidable damage without it?
Derick Apr 5th 2008 1:57PM
Honestly I think you might be a little crazy.
Honestly if he doesn't want to get the tells, he can do whatever he wants to try to dispell them.
I mean Honestly.

I agree AND disagree. There needs to be a solution to the tanking problem. Namely, we need a tank class OR spec, other than feral that is useful for something other than tanking. That's a topic that has been covered extensively. I also agree that it's rude to whisper people not in LFG to get them to run something.
I disagree that the spirit of this post, or postgeist if you will, is in any way offensive. Why are people so determined to troll around the internet until they find something they can bitch about and then equip their Wall-o-Text Shield of +5 Arrogance and let everyone know what they think? Stop wasting everyone's time. And for those of you who will say I'm calling the kettle black, I WAS her to read an entertaining article and some light hearted responses. I just get sick of it all. Criticism =/= intelligence.

Honestly, how dare he try to avoid unsolicited tells when he's trying to farm for runs he's actually interested in doing! Doesn't he know that the needs of every non-tank out there outweigh his own? I mean, honestly!

Written like a true mage...or maybe a warlock.
My two 70s are a tank and a healer. I don't really mind unsolicited tells, and if that was all I got no big deal. Unsolicited group invites, hate tells when I politely reply "sorry no" or "no thanks" when asked to tank or heal xyz, those are the reality us "high demand" classes get to live with.
Even better are the people who know both of my 70s are the same person, and will send my warrior tells asking me to LOG OVER to my healer. Not would I like to, but requesting I stop what I'm doing on the toon I selected to play and instead log the toon that suits their purposes.
The only thing I want in a normal mode instance anywhere is to help guildies or friends, I'm exalted with everything and have raid gear for all the specs I choose to play so unless I'm in LFG (which I do regularly to find heroic PUGs) please learn to be polite or leave me the hell alone.
