You guys who are challenging apping (I'm sure aping is just a typo) need to go study rhetoric. If you want to capture the attention of your audience and persuade them, you need to appeal to your character and emotion (pathos and ethos). Using "insider" words like apping is one way of appealing to a particular group. The mmo community has a lot of slang that makes us feel part of a homogeneous group, and a writer who is catering to such a group is well-advised to use that type of language. Any WoW player can easily identify a newbie player by their lack of familiarity with the jargon.If you doubt me, those of you pushing for stricter grammar also are part of a group (a group that values the use of formal language). Both groups can easily identify those who are "in" and those who are "out" by the language and terminology used.
