Breakfast Topic: Insane luck
My wife just got an Eye of the Sea from her fishing daily quest reward. Yesterday, she got the Weather-beaten Fishing Hat and last week, on the second day of Patch 2.4, she picked up The 2 Ring. She fished Mr. Pinchy mere hours after she had the skill to fish in the pools around Skettis, while we'd met anglers who had been after him for weeks. She also gets at least one Badge of Justice a day from Shattered Sun Supplies. I, on the other hand, have gotten only one on either of my two 70s despite doing all the daily quests since the patch went live. Whenever we do drop quests, she always finishes before I do even when I start killing before she does. I guess you could say the RNG, or Random Number Generator, has taken a liking to her.The RNG hates me. I ran Heroic Slave Pens and Steam Vaults enough times to get to Exalted with Cenarion Expedition but never saw the Pauldrons of Wild Magic or Wave-Fury Vambraces drop for my Shaman, who was Elemental at the time. I guess this is also why I just PvP, because I have the kind of luck that Dan asked about in an another Breakfast Topic. Here's the flip question -- do you know anyone with insane luck? Someone who gets a quest drop on the first kill, perhaps, or even the luck of finding really cheap stuff on the AH? I've mispriced wares on the AH as Silver instead of Gold (alright, that's more stupidity than bad luck, but hey...) while other people find those exact misplaced wares. So, who's lucky around here?

I wouldn't say I am as lucky as your wife but I tend to do quite well. I managed to get the Phoenix pet on my first run through MT, which is probably the luckiest I've been.

I've never been high enough to win anything that really mattered. That said, whenever I party with people I hear a lot of grumbling about how often I win loot rolls.
Sleeping with the RNG does have its' perks...!

The other night I got 6 upgrades in just half of Kara; it was a good night for me. I have also gotten a Badge of Justice about 3 out of 4 days from the Shattered Sun supplies.

In what sense is this issue worth an article?
I can't imagine what discussion you wish to provoke beyond the recounting of insipid, irrelevant anecdotes.

Don't make me say, "it's just a game..."
Damn, too late.
Decaf's in the orange pot.

And using the vocabulary that you've chosen (not that great of a vocab, mind you, just unnecessarily descriptive) just to stroke your ego while contributing nothing to the conversation is called trolling, my friend.
I on the other hand have been lucky once: T4 shoulder token dropped off Maulgar (three of them, all for a pally)and it wasnt my guild run, so I didnt expect any loot, but only 2 others needed it, so I got one.

i'll give you why,
1.to point out stupid whiners who look for an excuse to complain
2. To spark up discussion with the intelligent members of the vocal minority about a topic which to a extent doesn't matter
onwards to the topic.
I've had excellent luck on my first character. The biggest piece of luck was only having to run Shadow labs once, got the quests done, got the key fragment AND the sonic spear
Unfortunately, my pally doesnt have such luck :(

In what sense is this comment worth a response?
I can't imagine what discussion you wish to provoke beyond the recounting of endless 'l2troll' and 'its only a game' responses.
bad troll is bad
(see what i did there?)

My friend got her Major Spellpower weapon enchant first kill, and she just snatched herself an emerald whelpling drop. I'm the guy who abandons quests in frustration because it takes longer than two hours to get 5 common quest drops.

I can't say my luck is awesome, however I seem to always get the sunfury attack plans on my first kill (4 out of 7 times now) and on two of those four times, I got a badge of justice in the loot bag.

I generally have bad luck. No tank gear ever dropped for my warrior ever pre-heroics. I farmed Shadow Labs several times for the trinket and the shoulders around 11 times even though I hate shadow labs more than any other instance. I also farmed the headless horseman 35 times (not joking either) for the plate helmet and never got it once, everything dropped including the pet, twice.
I got lucky, once in Kara, the first time I'd ever ran it those epic tank wrists dropped from Att, but thats all I ever got from Kara.
Also I got lucky this one time when I hit level 70, I had no gold at all for a flying mount, so I thought I'd do some quests in Netherstorm, about my 3rd quest a random world epic pattern dropped for me which I sold for 900g, I was happy.
I think I might be lucky at Netherwing Ledge too, I find over 14 eggs per day.

Mine is kinda mixed sometimes, alot of the time I have really bad luck (barely ever any plate healing drops in heroics and before) but as soon as I hit kara, I got 9 (yes 9) useful epic drops in 1 run, then I won a drop for the ribbon of sacrifice from opera (which the other healers both wanted aswell) and I have loads of badges left for my imba 2.4 healing mace because I want to replace something with a badge reward and it drops :o

The best luck i've had was me (prot warrior) and a holy pally friend going to Ogr'ila because I wanted to get a Badge of Tencaity. Did one the the summonable bosses just cause I knew it was higher luck then pure farming and easier then the event. We killed him and it dropped on the first try. He gave it to me and I sold it for 1.5k gold :)
All my friends have much better luck. The pally friend I went to Ogr'ila with levled up his pally, went holy and on his first night in Kara, got all decked out winning a piece from every boss. Only needed to do the place once more for the rest of his gear. I needed to do that place weeks on end and only got half the gear I wanted before I moved on to bigger better things...or bought stuff. The same thing happened on his rogue. Other friends have had the same senario.
BoT...good money... :)

Best luck I've had was getting a Captured Firefly in 6 kills. Also fished Mr. Pinchy twice within 3 casts.

most people believe they're lucky or not... i'm win some, lose some, in what seems to be about the right distribution.
psychologists would say that my perception is skewed based on my belief whether i'm a "winner" or a "loser", so maybe i'm actually one or the other. but it seems like the RNG is working as intended for me. :-P

I've been fishing highland schools for the last 4 months for roughly an hour a day (say 60 ish crawdads a day) and I've not seen Mr Pinchey. Also I've won the fishing comp 3 times on my server and I don't have the eternium fishing line yet. And my final whine is despite doing the opera event 30+ times the healing wand has never dropped for me. My only piece of goodluck is I have Mojo.

I have a friend who has insanely good luck with rolls. When we're grouped with him, the comment is that the rest of us should just let him have everything and he can parcel out what isn't BoP.
I would say my luck is average, or what would be considered average, given the RNG. There was a guy in my guild who swore the RNG hated him. He finally quit running in groups because he never won anything unless no one else rolled. I just view it as "Some days you step in it, some days you don't."

my gf had uncanny luck. (when she still played.)
she got around 20 really good BOE blues during the course of leveling her warlock, she got at least one - usually two - greens to drop every time she did a quest, and she got the epic staff in BRD when she was 50...
she had 1k gold sitting in her bags when she got to outland and never leveled a profession past a skill of 3.
me? well i have the kind of luck where i pug BM and the SHADOW priest rolls "need" on the healing trinket and i lose... 10 runs later and i haven't seen it since.
needless to say most of my gear is crafted...
