Subsidizing profession progress with guild funds
Lileah over on WoW LJ has an interesting idea that I've never thought of before. Well, her guild does -- she has a question about Illusion Dust, which yes, is hard to find. Usually your best bet is to run through the old level 55-60 instances, so Scholomance, Stratholme, and so on, but your best bet is probably the AH -- lots of people who can craft greens DE those and put the Dust up for sale there. Pricy but probably worth the time you'd spend grinding for them. But the reason she's looking for Illusion Dust is because her guild is paying out a 1,000g bounty to anyone who has two leveled professions by next week. That's a super interesting idea. I'm the kind of player who never seems to find time to level my professions -- I'm too busy killing stuff and leveling and gaining reputation to run around picking up herbs or mining nodes. But 1,000 is a nice prize, and definitely helps pay for not only my time running around, but also the extra costs associated with leveling a profession -- crafting mats and so on.
And considering how useful a 375 profession is to the guild, any guild that's raiding at a fairly high level should see benefits come out of having most of the guild crafting endgame items. Very cool idea -- if you have a guild that could use a few more crafters and some gold to spread around, subsidizing profession leveling might be just the ticket.

They must be desperate, or their members are _really_ being lazy about leveling their professions. I had a 380 JC & max mining skill before I ever joined a guild on my current main.
A moderate bounty for leveling skills is a cool idea though.
But the caveat is how to you assure that the bounty recipients are going to stick around? It's the worst feeling in the world to invest significant guild resources into a character only to have them leave and join a higher-progression guild the next day. It happens.

O.o For serious?
I have 4 70s, 3 of which have both professions at 375. Where's my 3k gold? LOL

Considering the high cost of mats for the upper levels of crafting, I'm not sure that 1000g is enough to offset the costs.

Our guild leader came up with the idea of a small jackpot for anyone to level fishing to 300+. I was one of two players in the raid able to fish up Lurker, and sometimes it took quite a few casts to make it happen. With the incentive, we would often have 5-6 able to fish up Lurker.

There is a guild on Jaedenar, that will remain nameless in this post (but probably not the replies) that got to lurker, and everybody was ready to go, had read the strats....but no one had fishing. Not one lvl 70 in the guild had their fishing high enough. They were asking people from my guild and other guilds to go raid with them just to fish the bastard up.
Hilarious.

Wow wish I'd get 1000g for it :O
I've been thinking of getting tailoring again for the robe (dropped it for herbing since the BT/MH patterns were rubbish.)
I'm the guild engineer and counted myself lucky that the guild covers the repair bot mats, i wouldn't expect anything beyond that!

mindless enchanting tailoring is pretty easy, two 70s can easily do zg/lbrs/brd/strat/ramps to get you to 375. likely you can do this all within a day of /played easily

I'd do engineering. :)

Alchemy is supposed to be the cheapest to level. :)

I wonder if this is on one of the newer servers with a low population? On my mains server Hellscream, (old & high pop) there are tons of people spamming with 375 skill looking to craft items for tips on both Horde and Alliance.
