Addon Spotlight: Fizzwidget's FactionFriend
Many of you may already be familiar with the wondrous little gadgets coming from the secret factory of Gazmik Fizzwidget. For those of you who are not, I would recommend you visit the Fizzwidget showroom and browse the wares. I'll profile them in the coming months, starting with a handy one for newly crowned level 70's. Fizzwidget's FactionFriend will automatically change the default Blizzard reputation bar based on your current zone or the faction you've most recently gained reputation with. You can also right click the reputation bar to select another faction, open an options pane or open the Reputation window.
I find this a nice "information speedometer odometer" for my paladin, who recently hit 70 and is beginning the reputation grind. Although I wouldn't call this addon a must-have, I embrace the fact that it helps me obsess about gaining reputation. With the shiny, new Shattered Sun Offensive faction, it's nice to know just how close I am to the the next level of reputation while doing the Sunwell dailies.
Read on for some of the other intuitive features of FactionFriend. On the reputation bar, you will sometimes see a marker, similar to the one you see on your experience bar that denotes how far your rest bonus will get you. This marker shows you how much reputation you can earn by turning in items you currently have in your inventory. An example would be if you're about to hit Honored with the Aldor, and want a quick, visual reference of if you can make it with the Fel Armaments in your inventory. Hovering over the marker will open a tooltip detailing what items you have in your inventory and how much reputation you can gain by turning them in.
To access the options interface for FactionFriend, use one of these two commands:
- /factionfriend
- /ff
Considering the quality of some of the reputation rewards, it's safe to say that reputation gain is a big deal once you've reached the level cap. This addon offers a simple and lightweight way to track your reputation gains automatically and visually.
If you've read this far, you are most likely the type of player who enjoys using little gadgets like FactionFriend, so give it a try and, as always, let me know your thoughts! In the meantime I'll be dodging Monstrous Kaliri and praying for a first-kill drop of a Bash'ir Phasing Device. Dismissed!

That's kinda pretty. I'm a faction obsessive (I'm still bummed out that the patch was released while I still had 3,000 rep to gain with Thrallmar for Exalted status), so I may be getting this.
Probably not until the expansion, since I'm maxed out for everything but SSO now, and as far as I can tell, there are no strange turn-in rep gains with them.

Oh my god...I've always wondered if there was an add-on that would change the bar to the faction you just got rep with! Super convenient when you're grinding 2 or 3 factions daily, as opposed to manually checking each time. I don't care so much about the estimated stuff as I do the bar changing...thank you!

I have to ask, what mod puts murlocks at the side of the actionbar?

DynRepBar is an Ace equivalent that I've used for years. And then you won't have to worry about updating it on patch day - just run your Ace updater.
And it's "Shattered Sun Offensive", not "Shining Sun Offensive".

Are you referring to "the shiny, new Shattered Sun Offensive faction"? Think you need to read more carefully before correcting...

I'd say it's more of an "information odometer" than speedometer.
Interesting mod though, might have to check it out.

Does anyone know if it plays nice with FuBar_FuXPFu or Xparky? I've held onto tekAutoRep since it JUST handles the switching of watched faction, which is all I want for those two addons.

As a FuBar user, I've been using FactionsFu for quite a while to do the same things.

FactioFu has been my preference for some time now. I don't need to see anything other than the information as it shows up on FuBar. I like how you can set a faction for each zone and then have that information show up every time you zone in. Furthermore, if you enter a zone that lacks a faction or doesn't have a faction set, it'll default back to the one you have checked on your normal reputation bar.
Then again, I'm very partial to the awesomeness that is FuBar.

I'm quite partial to GrindStatus. It's got a FuBar plugin (or you can have the text shown in a draggable overlay), it auto-switches the rep bar, you can right-click and pick any faction to change to it, and it's got a mostly-functional database of the rep rewards for each faction that's accessible through a click.
It also keeps track of possible item turn-ins, but it goes as far as to break it down by fractional points per individual item.
