Here's where the rules lawyering fails. Since I'm sure someone who reports enough people that they need an addon never talks to those people to find out the origin behind their name, they ASSUME that the name has nothing to do with roleplaying.Let's take the above character named Jesus. Now, instead of just being a name, what if that player was roleplaying a draenei shaman with a messiah complex. He spends his time helping the unfortunate, constantly resurrecting people he finds along his travels, and regularly giving little sermons whenever he sees a group of people gathered until they get nervous and start to scatter. Now the rules lawyer with the mod signs on, sees the name, and reports it.That person has just single handedly destroyed the entire roleplay of that person's character. That's more in line with griefing than it is with adhering to the rules, because while you were busy OOC reporting anyone with a name you deemed as inappropriate, the person you reported was in character and acting in an appropriate manner for their name.I'm all for reporting players that violate the TOU. But, I am against any mod that makes it easy to take the personal element out of reporting, as it makes it all too easy for that to turn into a griefing tool. And it saddens me to see such an addon touted here.

The name Jeesus is not acceptable for the same reason that Garfield, Legolas, Gimli, Georgewbush, Hulkhogan and Majorpain are not acceptable: They all voilate TOU. Jeesus is a religious figure, which is against TOU. Garfield, Legolas and Gimli are all fictional character names, which is against TOU. Georgewbush and Hulkhogan are real people, which is against TOU. And Majorpain is a "rank" name, which is against TOU.If someone's character in WoW wants to have a messiah complex as their RP, they should choose an appropriate name. Let's not get into the fact that the Judeo-Christian God does not exist in the world of Warcraft, and neither did a Jesus Christ. If I were making a RP character that would play act a religious revival, I'd go for a name like Saviour, Blessed, or something with a mystical, "touched" feeling.

I would agree that Jesus Christ is a religious name. Jesus is a common first name, popular primarily in Mexico. Who are you, rules lawyer, to determine that? That's what I'm saying. You're imposing YOUR beliefs on that person, instead of talking with them to find out the origin and backstory of it. You're assuming it's wrong. But then, it's always been easier to sit back in an armchair and be right than to make an effort and risk finding out you were mistaken.

Look, No ones the "Rules Lawyer" Except Blizzard. You are talking Cake like we are making these rules ourselves, and just winging it. BLIZZARD made these rules and policies on naming conventions, and left it up to us, the users, to be the watchmen and report names. A report does not make a name change happen, BLIZZARD does.We are not imposing OUR beliefs on anyone, we are doing what Blizzard asked us to do, report things we dont think are right, and let them handle it from there.I play on an RP server, and I dont RP in the slightest. But that doesnt mean I made a character with an asshat name and was angered when my name got changed. There was a hunter named Jayefkay with a pet named magic bullet who would talk about how he was president of Azeroth. I reported him, because its a clear violation on any server, much less a RP server.

Brittwilson, did you report that player individually, or en masse though?Blizzard made it up to you to report them, using the system they provided. This allows you to report them in bulk, NOT as Blizzard intended. That's rules lawyering. That's adhering to the letter of the law, often times without any understanding of the spirit or purpose of the law.I have no problem with you reporting a name you find offensive. I have a problem with you reporting fifty of them in one fell swoop using a system that was not put in place by Blizzard. If you want to use Blizzard's system and report fifty of them in a row, knock yourself out. I still think you're missing the spirit of the law in sticking to the exact letter of the law (which is what rules lawyering is), but if it makes you happy, go for it. You'll not hear a complaint from me about it. But if you use a mod to do it, I put you in the same boat as any other griefer.

As a roleplayer and also as an individual that has in the past been fed up with the idiocy of some names on roleplaying servers, I've done my fair share of name reporting in the past. It usually occurs when I'm feeling especially vindictive and have been griefed recently for being a roleplayer by non-rpleplayers on a roleplaying server. On those times that I have reported names, the GMs that I spoke to requested that names be sent in bulk as opposed to individual requests; I made it a point to inquire that once in order to make sure that this was in fact correct. This request has been echoed by numerous other people who have reported name infractions. So, while playing WoW I keep a notepad next to me. Sometimes it's to jot down notes while raiding. Sometimes it's to put together an idea for work. Sometimes I sketch web layouts for future projects. And, yes, sometimes I write down the names of idiot players I run across with high innapproporiate names or ones that are clearly not roleplaying names. When the list gets to be about fifteen names long and I feel suitably cranky enough (usually around the time I have fifty or sixty hour weeks), that list gets messaged to the staff.

rofl, Blizzard didn't put it in place themselves so it auto-matically makes anything you do with it void, elitest, and wrong? My ass. You're just looking for a way to make yourself feel right and anyone who doesn't agree with you wrong.I myself also used to jot names down as I played and report them all at the same time, typing in each name and a reason, ect. This addon may make SOME people trigger happy, but for most of us, it just helps us do what we've always done. And yeah, GMs agree and encourage that we report in bulk, as 1 name every 45 mins is a waste of BOTH of our time.Next thing you know you'll be saying everyone who did quests with a quest addon/WoWhead should get their exp taken away. *rolls eyes*
