Breakfast Topic: What are you doing with all that gold?
So, now that the Daily quest limit is up to 25 and we have a whole ton of new quests to do courtesy of the Sunwell dailies, a lot of us are starting to build up quite a large bankroll. In addition to the monetary rewards, we're getting tons of green items (that disenchant into very lucrative things such as Greater Planar Essences and Large Prismatic Shards), a good selection of Sunfury Signets and tons of Arcane Tomes from all the Blood Elves we're fighting. All those green gems I've hoarded over the months are finally paying off for me, since my Jewelcrafting mule is able to turn them into Brilliant Glass, and I've even had a blue recipe or two drop that's sold for a pretty penny. As a result, I've jumped up from about 1000 gold between all my characters to about 6000 gold between them now, and no sign of the cash flow stopping. The problem comes when I try to figure out what to do with it all. 2 of my 3 70s already have epic flight, and I'm considering buying it for the third as well, but I'm sitting on the gold for a few days to make sure I don't make an impulse purchase. In addition, I'll probably be feeding a few thousand to the statue building fund in order to get a nice new title.
Then again, I'm not sure if "Of the Shattered Sun" really suits me as a title, so I may just pass and save the gold. After all, if I save up a good amount of gold for Wrath of the Lich King, I'll be able to get my Death Knight off to a really nice start and have enough to buy some of the new level 68-70 greens that ought to be rolling out of the first few zones.
Have you started building a massive war chest since 2.4? If so, what are your plans for all that gold?

Bought my epic flying mount shortly before 2.4 and *then* someone finally bought a BOE epic I had up on the AH, so I was sitting at around 1k gold when the patch hit. Yesterday I was at 4k from all the dailies and drops and whatnot, especially after I hit Exalted with the Scryers and could start just selling all those faction items.
I spent about 1500 gold yesterday buying all the parts to make my Sorcerer's Alchemist Stone. I only would have saved around 200 gold if I transmuted each item instead of buying them outright (I did transmute the Earthstorm, it was the biggest cost savings) so I just bought them instead of waiting a week (didn't feel like bugging guildies to help transmute). That cost includes buying the Nether Vortices for 300 gold each because I only had 20 badges left after the badge vendor opened up and I vastly preferred spending 600 gold to 30 badges, since there are still SSO badge items I want that I can't just buy.
I'm vaguely tempted to buy the SSO title when it is unlocked, but I'll worry about that when it becomes available. Otherwise...I'm just doing the dailies that result in the Shattered Sun Packages (for a chance at more badges, of course) and the ones that are quick 'n' easy to do on the Isle, for a bit of cash flow.

I felt like I needed to qualify that the reason the new Sorcerer's Alchemist Stone cost me so much was that I had never made the original Alchemist's stone.

I'm saving for whatever gold sink Blizzard comes up with for WotLK.

I usually take all of my Gold and then go sit at the Zangamarsh server AH and cry at how empty it is.
Last week I wanted to buy a Dagger (I was a level 48 Rogue using a level 42 dagger) and the only options from level 42 to 48 were GREY daggers selling for 5 Gold each.
I just got into Outland so my outdated armor will soon be replaced with Quest items but it was tough-going for anyone like me who has very little time to group.

I've been using the extra cash to fund more Tabs for my guilds bank to allow more items to be freely traded amongst the guildies.

Between my two 70's I had about 1k gold when 2.4 hit. Since 2.4 I have:
-Got epic flying for my alt
-Bought a Cenarion War Hippogryph for my main
-Gave a random stranger a thousand gold in the mail
So that's 7.8k gold I have made and spent/given away. After all that I'm already up to 2k gold. I plan to save up about 10k, give away a bunch, and hold on to enough to fund my next alt's epic flying.

haha dude what server are you on?

All that gold? I'm poor! Consumables make me sad. mana potions + flask + repairs + ZA pioneer runs = not a lot of gold.

Honestly, the new dailies were a godsend to me. I started out alliance, and my 70 alliance has quite alot of gold and will be able to afford epic flight for my 65 coming up... but... I've made it a rule to myself that I wouldn't use the cross-faction auction house to give gold to my horde characters. They've 'roughed' it out (with the exception of the khorium destroyer one of my guildies gave me. It really wasn't an improvement for my warrior over her gladiator's war edge, so I did give in and pass it to my 70 tauren hunter.) I was looking rather dismally at how I'd ever afford an epic mount on that side, having trouble getting BEM open and only having Skettis and the BG dailies to work with. Now I can still keep my hordies 'casual' alts by running the isle dailies on them every few days (I don't even do it consistently) and will slowly be able to afford her epic. Plus, getting her those scryer or aldor items is SO much easier with the new dailies, that I don't have to sit and whimper at the thought of getting her exalted. My alliance spent so much time with those shirtless initiates hoping for sunfury drops before...to the point of hauling my guild paladin with me so he could help kill in mass since she was just a warrior. The shirtlessness was nice...too bad they were also largely ringless :P

To be honest, i would save it. I am pretty sure that inflation will hit when the Xpac comes out and one will need that money in WOTLK to make leveling profs easier (and anything else you want to spend gold on.)
ticklefist Apr 13th 2008 7:20PM
Eh, I'm hoarding most of it for Wrath but I've decided to spend about 2k of it on gems/enchants for a PVP Holy set.
Shadowink Apr 13th 2008 10:00PM
23k gold so far... and just like Gerik said , i just like to look at my total grow ^^.
Don't really want to spend it on anything. (atm)

I find it hard to save up even when I'm doing around 10-15 dailys a day, thats neting me about 150-200g (but sometimes I skip them for heroic or BG etc). I'm a casual player - doing 2-4 hours a day. So far I've purchased my epic flight form, also maxed at LW and ENG professions. Recently I've been using my gold to craft whatever I can that would benefit me - 2 deathblow goggles (1 gemd and enchanted for tanking, other for dps), got my epic roflcopter. I'm feral, but working on healing set on the go. Crafting Tribal LW Windhawk set http://www.wowhead.com/?itemset=618
Already crafted bracers and belt, now need 16 Primal Airs to craft the chest.
There's always places that need improvement or items that I want to purchase. And I figured if I run out of the things to earn/spend gold for/on, I will become bored. What is the point of collecting thousands of G without any plans to spend them? It's not like anyone really cares how much you got in your bank.

What 90% of other levels are doing: grinding for epic flying mount :)
Nimb Apr 14th 2008 8:04AM
I ended up buying my epic flying mount between the daily quests selling leather and other random drops. Anything I make from here on out will help me finish enchanting my gear and once that is done. I will just save it.
Richard Apr 14th 2008 9:29AM
I've had my epic flight skill for a long time, and all my gear is now SSC/TK or BT/Hyjal (so there's nothing for me to buy gear-wise) - I honestly have nothing to spend it on.
I've been doing dailies forever; I got 24 in on the weekend.
I'm up to 8K gold without breaking a sweat.
So what am I going to do with it? Honestly? I have no freakin' idea.
But I've pretty much stopped doing dailies... now I'm focusing on "silly" goals - I bought my way to exalted with Sporeggar for the sexy tabard. Even that only cost me a few hundred gold, since the rep was buffed.
Ground the ogre cave for a day or two to finally ding exalted with the Consortium.
Found my class book on an ogre tannin run in DM the other day; bought a bunch of Librams to turn in to grind up Shen'dralar rep to friendly.
Bought a ton of Twilight Cultist sets to grind Cenarion Circle up to revered (actually turned a large profit when it was all said and done - the BoE blues that drop off the mini-bosses, and the main guy - all easily soloable at 70, btw - still sell very well).
I guess the bottom line is that now that I have more gold than I know what to do with I can really make interesting goals and still always have enough cash to raid regularly and help guildies out when needed.
No wonder the gold spammers have picked up their assault lately.

The Sunwell has been so doggone crowded on my server that it kills my video card. I guess I need to upgrade, but I literally can't do dailies in an area that causes me to crash. :(
