Some Hunter pets not losing size or elite status when tamed

So by now, I'm sure a lot of people have seen it: A Hunter accompanied by what looks to be a pet on steroids, with a huge size and an elite target frame. No, Hunters have not gained the ability to become even more imba, it appears to be a display bug. Since 2.4, elite and rare (aka silver elite) pets aren't quite registering properly once tamed, as they appear to keep their size and show up as elite in status (though apparently not in stats) until the hunter logs off. As a result, you may have seen Gutripper tearing up Blood Elves in Dawnblade Village, or King Bangalash frolicking around Booty Bay. Rest assured (or be disappointed) that you probably won't see them that way for long, and a hotfix is on the way.
Mania speculates that the bug may have something to do with the implementation of Papa Hummel's Pet Biscuits, which seems very possible. Maybe when they messed with the coding to allow pets to grow larger, much like the PTR bug where non-combat pets grew giant, it caused elite pets to grow a bit larger too, or at least not shrink like they should. Either way, enjoy your new massive pets while you can, Hunters, I'd imagine a hotfix will come either this Tuesday or the next.

I don't see why they couldn't just keep this. Even if the pet displays as rare/elite if they're a named..would be nice. No stats difference just a status thing. And the size would also be nice, it's kind of not epic the other way.

Hunters imba? Check the arena stats some time and keep the bias out of this kind of reporting

I'm pretty sure it was a joke. A hyperbole, perhaps.
My my, aren't we touchy?

Hunters Imba, heh play one for a while. compare warlocks for a moment as the only other "pet" class, then talk to me again.

Actually, I play a level 70 Hunter, and have made a few posts advocating for Hunters in the past. I was making a joke.

Funny thing about the internet... people can't see your cheesy grin when you type jokes.
If only there was some way to convey such emotions when one typed...

Maybe it's because I don't play a hunter, but I completely understood it was a joke, and started rolling my eyes when I read the comments. Your inability to get the joke just shows how dumb most hunters are (see, I can do it too!)

I apologize for the misunderstanding.

Oh, I was just clarifying. I understand humor does not always come across successfully with the written word.

It also doesn't help to be a complete dullard.

It's not just elite mobs. It happened to me once with my Scorpid from SMV but only a tauren druid could see it. I myself have seen it happening twice for some NE hunters.

So this would justify a hotfix when the orc shoulders did not?
It's just a display error, not disrupting game balance.

I've seen this happen with Arikara when tamed by a friend of mine. He showed up huge when summoned and with the tag still underneath, so he was
Arikara
Didn't last though, and didn't happen when I tamed him, but on the plus side he still gets the puff of smoke and sound effect when you summon him, and as far as I know there's no plan to 'fix' that
Blorg Apr 14th 2008 6:21AM
bah, pointy brackets are treated as code and not displayed, and I can't edit my post. Should've been:
Arikara
(vengeance)
(XXX's pet)

I had this happen to me the other day. For starters I was not using those Papa Hummel's Pet Biscuits.
I was dual boxing my hunter and priest. When playing on my hunter, my pet seemed normal. But as soon as I switched to the priest, I saw that my hunter's pet's name had changed back to the original elite mob's name and also showed that my hunter's pet was an elite.
I was shocked so I double checked. and yep sure enough from the hunter's view, everything was normal. But from the priest's view, I had an elite mob as a pet.

Yes, my Arash-ethis has done this several times, too. (I like it - she's even more beautiful in her wild size.)
Usually her name tag doesn't change for me - it still shows the name I gave her - but other players in my party see her as Arash-ethis. Sometimes she appears big to others but regular size to me; other times she appears big to me as well. It's inconsistent, but fun.
Mounting/dismounting, changing zones, or dismissing/calling her returns her to her normal name and size.
