Latin American-Spanish language pack beta available for US servers
It's Beta time!
Unfortunately, we're not talking about the Wrath of the Lich King Beta. Instead, we're talking about the new Latin American Spanish version of World of Warcraft. Eyonix announced yesterday that the Beta Test has begun. You can download the language pack here, the FAQ is located here, and Q&A Representatives will be on hand on the official forums here to answer questions and address problems during the test.
Good luck to all you Cazadores of bad grammar and misused language, Guerreros for the cause of South American servers, and all the rest who'll be testing this out.

One of our Elemental Shammys tried to install this yesterday and it completely borked his entire install... caveat emptor.

I installed the language pack yesterday so my wife could test it. The only problem I had was the fact that the language pack reseted the game to version 2.0.0 and I had to download all patches again. For some reason the uploader didn't accept the patches previously downloaded.
After this, everything went perfect.

@ Pedro:
Perhaps that's what he meant when he told me he had to "reinstall everything" - I'll ask him tonight.
Thanks for that.

"Good luck to all you Cazadors of bad grammar and misused language"
I think that joke went wrong...because is not funny.
I think if Blizzard would've made a Latin server long ago, would find that more than 1 is needed (not the client, because a lot of ppl prefer to play in the original language), there are a lot of players from SA playing wow, at least in Shadowmoon there are like 2 guilds full of brazilians, among hundreds of ppl from other countries.
So blizzard make servers for the pacific islands before any1 in latin american, good planning job now after 4 years when maibe the last expansion is coming this fall...

Yes it is, switched the german client for the english with patch 1.6.
And the german translation got even worse since then.
A good potion of german speaking players now uses the english client.

Yeah, it's not as if Australia has people, let alone Internet access.
And good thing the sun rises and sets in Oceania the same time as California, 'cause there's no reason they'd need a server with a different time zone, no way...

I speak spanish but I don't think this is a great idea because I just can't stand the fact that Blizzard is also translating the name of characters and iconic places I also hate translated movies and games because most of the time: a) The translation sucks and what you hear (or read) is just and adaptation of the original speech, wich makes that lots of cool jokes and the sense of most sentences just get lost in translation, b)The voices, anyone who has played a blizzard game in spanish knows how bad their spanish voice actors are. When you mix a) and b) you get a tauren with the voice of a 5 year old child, talking like a retard, and saying the outlands are called "Tierrallende".
So im really sorry blizzard, but im staying in the english version for good

Besides its "cazadores" not cazador, I guess probably not of the latinamericans myself included will not be transferring or rerroling on this servers unless you can really get a very good latency now, but as they are putting the servers in texas I think will probabloy be the same.

Is not about the time zone, is about the population, US has 4 time zones and still ppl play wherever they want, with no issues. How many more ppl play in Oceania more than in LA?
And the grammar is not wrong nor missused, just ppl are not used to those names and rather use the original ones.
The thing is not about the game; you still can use the english version in the new LA servers, is the area that gathers ppl with a common language that matters.

Of course, this news is completely useless to Brazilians, since we do not speak Spanish. I still think that this whole "Latin American" thing is Blizz's way to cater to Spanish speakers in the US, not really about South America.

I was wondering about this as well. There are a number of all Brazilian guilds sprinkled across various servers.
I'm glad to see something is being done, as somtimes people in game and on the forums can be hostile if you are speaking something other than English--I think it's fairly stupid personally.
I agree Oceania needs their own servers as well--but am happy to see something finally done for Spanish speakers.

Lo que quiro a saber es que si esto vas hacer mejor que su "Voice Chat." Porque eso es mierda.
;)

If you are going to write in spanish at least do it right, and use a sentence with some meaning.
Zenboras Apr 17th 2008 1:16PM
As a spanish speaker, I would not install the spanish WoW. Even if they are accurate translations, there are things that are understood different. Also the fact that I've read the translation for the Spain servers, and Horde cities names are HILARIOUS. And can't be taken to seriuosly :P Although, this may depend on your level of english.
Rogue = Picaro???
Also, Warlock has no real translation, and Bruj@ it's.... less than accurate. Warlocks are not witches hahaha.

Fhe fact that blizzard is neglecting BRAZIL in this latin server thing is bumming me out.
Not because i'm all for WoW in portuguese...But i know a LOT of people who WANT to play to game, but can't because of the language.
Wht sucks the most, is that i BET brazil has as much players as all the other latin countries together.
If anyone ever played on Warsong(US) they'd know that.
But blizzard keeps neglecting us. We can't enter contests, we can't enter championships...I don't get WHY they bar us from it.
It sucks. ..A LOT.
Shadowfury Apr 17th 2008 4:59PM
It's because it's easier to make a spanish patch than a portuguese one. They already have a base patch to work on (Europe).
Hilus Apr 17th 2008 5:39PM
Yeah, it's really "bad luck" with Brasil. Think about it: Only one country that speaks portuguese vs. more than 20 countries that share the same language, spanish. Obviously Blizzard focused in a spanish version first.
Pulyx Apr 17th 2008 6:40PM
What bothers me is that brazil is 183 million people and people still neglect the fact that the WoW community here is pretty large.
And why didn't blizzard make a portuguese version for PORTUGAL in europe either kind of makes me wonder.
I know portuguese isn't the most relevant languange in the world..But hey...183 million people HAS to count for something.
Blizzard made an localization effort for warcrafts 1-3 and starcraft and diablo 1 and 2. They should do the same with wow.
musachy Apr 17th 2008 6:24PM
This is funny because words have such a different meaning on the different countries of Latin America...being cuban, and reading "Rogue" as "Picaro" is just too funny.
