Around Azeroth: The forgotten mariner
Apparently, the night elf expedition to Niagara Falls has met a disappointing end. Caedus of Bloodscalp-EU discovered this empty elven boat -- with the lamp still burning -- at the top of the Southfury River. And where is the top of the Southfury River? After a long journey fraught with spider attacks, my shaman discovered that this screenie was taken at the very top of the border between Ashenvale and Azshara, which means that the water is coming down from Mount Hyjal. Caedus wrote, "I doubt many people have seen it as I can't imagine people enjoying swimming up this river." You got that right.
Do you have any unusual World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see it on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wow.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. We prefer full screen shots without the UI showing. And please, no more sunsets. We work better under cover of night.

It is a part of the druid epic flight form quest line though, so I'd guess a lot of druids have seen it already.

I certainly didn't see it because I accidentally fell into the river and was looking for a way out.
Nope.

Not supprising I guess, seems as there are tons of posts daily, but it wasn't that long ago...
mk Apr 20th 2008 10:40AM

I almost said, "Give her some credit, I'm sure it wasn't even the same Blogger who posted the original shot."
Then I looked at the author's name. Sure enough, Elizabeth Wachowski.
Ah, well. These things happen, sometimes.

Elizabeth Wachowski =/= Elizabeth harper

Well I swam up that river because I was looking for an alternate way into Azshara. A waste of time, but I was curious to discover that boat. I like these little hidden away mysteries.

I've seen it because I have swam every river, creek, swamp, sea, ocean, etc in the game. Which is why I am so disappointed witht he lack of life in the water surrounding Sunwell, but that is another story. :)

Is this not some kind of a hommage to The Lord of The Rings? That was my first impression.
Derick Apr 20th 2008 3:10PM
I've swam up that river.
I thought I might be able to get into azshara.
You cant by the way.
and as long a trip it seems upstream, it's twice as long back...
Wish they'd implement some sort of current engine.

Hey, that's my favourite fishing-spot!

I actually do try and check the archives for a double post (in this case I searched for the words "waterfall" and "southfury"), sometimes they slip through. I was never an Around Azeroth devotee before I took over the column last month, so I have trouble remembering every one we did.

Speaking of you taking over last month:
You should do some different articles. Not that this one is bad, but I missed your creative and thought-provoking pieces. We need someone with sense to filter out some of Mike and Adam's nonsense.

For the record, it's a different angle on the same spot, not the exact same picture. And who says we can't see certain shots from multiple angles? It's a small world with some pretty places. :)
Nick S Apr 21st 2008 12:41AM
yep, tried to swim to azhara up this river.
didn't make it, but i did find the boat.
i like it when there are interesting things in otherwise useless places.
Oldbear Apr 21st 2008 1:09PM
I was "feared" off the cliff right above the boat...
