Forum post of the day: Keep your E-sport out of the Battlegrounds
Drysc's announcement of new gear requirements for season four has not been entirely well received. Doorf of Maelstrom is downright upset with the addition of arena point requirements to battleground honor gear. In a thread entitled "Keep your E-sport out of the Battlegrounds" feels that this new mechanic is unfair and forces people to play in the arena in order to truly enjoy the battlegrounds.
Several posters, like Evennia of Feathermoon agree that arena and battleground are separate PvP systems. The forums have many threads today expressing outrage at this change. Dottie of Sargeras believes that this change will be the subject of a lawsuit since it is limiting people's access further to certain aspects of the game. This is an extreme extension of the argument that all players should have access to all game content. Still others, such as Oded of Draenor are once again calling for a separation between traditional WoW and the arena Esport.
Don't get me wrong, I love to play in the arenas, but I agree that the arena and battlegrounds should be treated as separate systems. I suppose the change could be an attempt to refocus folks on their PvE goals. By making battlegrounds less fun and requiring arena participation, many casual PvP players may pursue the PvE environment.

I don't think Blizzard really puts that much thought into it.

Pretty much with BC, there are two ways to go with end-game:
The PvE route where you spend hours looking for a group for instances or wait a week hoping 10 or 25 guild members get on to have the chance to win gear.
Or the PvP route where you can practically instantly get in a match and earn points to get gear.
Personally, if Blizz removes PvE attunments, there should be no restrictions on PvP.

It's possible that they're trying to do what you said. However, I doubt they're trying to scare people away from the PvP system into the PvE one. However, it should be noted with the ability to get Badges of Justice through daily quests, they made PvE a lot less exclusive.
It's my guess that they wanted to make PvP gear semi-exclusive to try and make a "progression" system for PvP.
The problem is that there is no end game for battlegrounds anymore. It isn't competitive at all. So, Blizzard can't make the battlegrounds gear exclusive via battleground performance. Especially since, to be fair, battleground performance at the PuG level is really only 1/10-1/15th your performance anyway.
I don't have a solution, I'm just pointing out why they're forced to do it this way.

Just a note, the released attunements on t4-t6. Now s1 and s2 are purchasble through honor.
I don't see that much of a difference there.

"With the Arena changes in an attempt to become an e-sport I see a lawsuit coming."
That is "one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul."

... "Geez, a simple 'NO' woulda done it, buddy."

Saying "May God have mercy on your soul" to a blogger with a dumb blog is dumber...

oh, the lawsuit is coming.
i'm suing blizzard for 1.7 million gold for pain and suffering caused by gnomes in S1.
my lawsuit for 1.2 million free hugs from the free hug guy for being sappy is still pending, but i'm a fighter. i follow these important lawsuits through!

@ ILikePVP: The joke was that Havitech found a reason to quote one of the most memorable scenes from Adam Sandler's film, "Billy Madison." I think you might have missed the joke.

Well I just wish they would do the same thing as the Arena Tourney except make it the S3 gear and the points you get will earn you the gear outside of the arena. This would help a bit in balance IMO.

As far as I'm concerned: Respectfully, you can *all* shut it. The damned "Welfare" argument isn't getting anyone anywhere, despite the fact it's been raging for months on the official Forums and spilled over onto WOW Insider.
Play the game you want to play it. Arena gear should be awarded for Arena combat; Battlegrounds gear should be awarded for Battlegrounds combat; PvE gear should be awarded for PvE gameplay; a combination of all three should net you awards from all three categories.

What this is, is removing all casual people from the game.
This is the way I think about the new ratings for Arena gear (2200) - only a handful of people on the Arena Tournament realms have got close to that.
If you got 25 people who were dedicated and played at the same time every night for a few hours, you could get full Tier 6.5 gear. But with the arena, your meant to not only save up arena points which will take a minimum of time anyway, but you have to win so many fights that you have to do the same thing over and over and over every night for months?
Bye bye casuals, welcome to World of Hardcore.
Buman Apr 23rd 2008 10:57PM
Do you have any idea how hard it was to get pvp gear pre-BC? This game is anything but hardcore. Its so freaking easy a half blind retarded kid can can get full epics in his sleep.
"oh QQ I can't have gear handed to me. What do I have to do to get gear? actually try? OMG NOT FAIR."
Nick S Apr 24th 2008 3:22AM
yes. trying is entirely too much to ask. the game is only fair if you can get everything while away from your keyboard.
