Addon Spotlight: Buffet
Welcome to the Sunday edition of Addon Spotlight. Today I am going to spotlight one of my new favorite addons. Many of you may shake your head in silent ridicule of my constant love for Tekkub's addons, but you need to check out Buffet!Buffet, in Tekkub's words, is a simple water and food managing addon. It combines two of my favorite addon characteristics; saving actionbar space and making use of the macro system.
So, basically, what you get with this addon are two automatically generated macros that will manage your food and drink items. The addon will create the two macros, which are placed in your General Macros tab, you just place them on your actionbar. Suddenly you will have two great little automated buttons. In combat, they switch to consumables you can use in combat, like Super Healing Potions, Super Mana Potions and Master Healthstones. Out of combat, the macros (to include the icon and tooltip) switches to the best food / drink combination available.
Check in after this for the best description available; Tekkub's.As promised, here is the developer's own description of this addon:
"Buffet is a simple water/food managing addon inspired by BaudConsumables and Munchies.
Unlike Baud and Munchies, Buffet does not swap items on the action bar (the noise bothered me). Instead it, edits macros on the fly (out of combat) to provide you with the best food, water, potions, stones, and bandages.
To make Buffet work, you must provide two macros, "AutoHP" and "AutoMP". Drop these on your action bar like any other macro, Buffet will change the macros as needed to provide you with food and drink out of combat, potions and stones in combat, and bandages on shift (HP macro only, of course). Buffet will always pick the smaller stack if equal-strength items are found. Conjured items will always be preferred over permanent ones.
Buffet does not yet support zone-specific items."
I now rely by Buffet and its two associated macros, I love that it all functions almost like it was a built-in feature. I want to reiterate that this will take into account conjured food and items. Also, the macros work across all of your characters, since they configure themselves automatically (out of combat) you can count on them on all toons. Check it out, and as always, let me know your thoughts on this one. As usual, when I profile your addons, Tekkub, I tip my hat to you sir. Dismissed!Filed under: Analysis / Opinion, Add-Ons, AddOn Spotlight

I just use AutoBar because it is a new action bar with this, and a lot of other hings.

I agree. Autobar's automation process is a lot less clunky. I much prefer it for this and other functions.

Autobar loads a *LOT* of crap... all I wanted was simple food, water, pots and stones... that's why I wrote this. I don't want to load a huge addon for such a simple thing.

tekkub, you, and the addons you write kick ass. we all know that. i admit, i currently use autobar, because it came with mazzle, but as i have butchered mazzle to pieces i'll gladly give buffet another shot, afterall if i can free 4 buttons, that has to be a good thing? :-)
keep up the excellent work.

"I don't want to load a huge addon for such a simple thing."
Well, I load AutoBar for all the other bar slots it saves me. Food, bandages, weapon buffs, pots, pet skills, traps, mounts, pets...
If you _only_ want the feature of food and water, and miss out on all the other greatness that is AutoBar, then Buffet will float your boat.

I love this mod. Its nice and simple of me, plus I can have the button/macro hotkeyed so its a a quick button mash away from a Health/Mana pot or Stone and of course when I am out of combat that same button(s) can be used for my Munchies and Beverages. This saves space and keybinds.

Autobar is fully configurable and you can disable any aspect of it you don't find useful. It's superior if only for the fact that it doesn't waste precious macro slots and doesn't require a single action bar button. Definitely one of the addons I refuse to play without and will likely never replace.

Buffet saves a good amount of space if you're like me and have an action bar setup for potions/bandages/water/food. The only thing else I'd want in it is a mount macro, but that's easy enough to write myself.
Yes, autobar can do all of that, but that's really the equivalent of buying ten pounds of bacon when all you wanted was a coke.
