Did you really earn your title?
While the need to attune to dungeons is long gone, you will still find quite a few people doing the quests anyway, if only for one reason: Those spiffy titles. This is also helped along by the fact that many of the requirements for these quests are not half as tough as they once were, perhaps the most pertinent example of this being Magtheridon. The poor pit lord, already nerfed more than once, received yet another rather major nerf in 2.4, and was made more enticing with the addition of a 20-slot bag, Badges of Justice, and a sack of epic gems to his loot table.
However, there's been some backlash I've noticed, with some people claiming that you can't really call yourself a proper "Champion of the Naaru" if you've only killed the nerfed version of Magtheridon. After all, they claim, he's so easy that the only way he could be easier is if you walked into his instance, clicked on a cube, and badges popped out -- and that's probably coming in 2.5.
Of course, my question to these people would be pretty simple: Where is the line? After all this is hardly Magtheridon's first nerf. He used to be near impossible before, and he's been nerfed multiple times. So when is the cutoff for being able to claim you earned the title? The first nerf? The second? The third? And what about the heroic dungeons? They've gotten quite easier as well. Should those who ran those Heroics in Karazhan gear be prevented from getting the Champion of the Naaru because someone else ran it in green gear?
Seriously, can't we all just get along? It's pretty difficult to figure out who got what requirements done when, and there's always going to be someone claiming that things were such much better/harder/prettier/more awesome three patches ago. Besides, it's no use playing more-hardcore-than-thou when so few of us were in the world-first raid that killed Magtheridon many moons ago. If you really want to flaunt your title, just wait until we all hit 71 and can't get it anymore, then you can really start lording it up over the poor non-Champion types.
Of course, if you really want to get in on the ground floor of a title, how about going to get "Of the Shattered Sun?" Then if they ever nerf the requirement down to 500 gold, you can talk about how hard it was to get it in your day.

I actually just earned my title "Champion of the Naruu" last night. Yes, I know, I earned it on the nerfed version, but ya know what? I didn't have much choice. I'm a relatively new player to WoW. I've only been playing since Burning Crusade has been released and by the time I got to Mag, the nerfs had been made.
To be honest, trying to judge skill, dedication, etc. off a title is a flawed concept anyways. Some of the hardest fights you may know won't come with a special title or "I was here!" type item. For example, I may have just killed Mag for the first time last night and it may have been the nerfed version, but my guild, which is only a couple months old and still fresh to T5 content downed Void Reaver as he is after patch 2.4.
All in all I think that while there is respect to be deserved from certain accomplishments, you can't expect to get special credit for them all, nor can you judge others simply by their token rewards.

I earned it last night as well (Darra, Argent Dawn - EU) and I'm very proud. The quest line is not easily achievable, regardless of Magtheridon, and to be honest - I don't see how having 1 set of cube clickers instead of two makes him that much harder. I think the most difficult part was heroic SH.
It was also a lovely quest line, especially the rotten Arakkoa eggs bit, and it was fun doing regardless of the title. Where are those long and lovely quest lines, like Onyxia attunement and Ras Frostwhisper? Gief more fascinating lore-related quest lines with original rewards.

Not only have I yet to hear this anywhere but here (thus I believe that it is an unnecessary, even trolling question), but I also believe that there IS something to be said for the individual that goes back to older, unnecessary content (the quest chain and trials are simply ridiculous in length for the reward now) just to show that you take pride in your character and its achievements.

Try getting Justicar or Conquerer nowadays
Blake Apr 28th 2008 11:04AM
A member of our guild just received his Justicar title which I believe is even more impressive than most other titles out there (though I still am quite impressed whenever I see Grand Marshal).
The only other title that is somewhat impressive these days is Hand of A'dal. Everyone is walking around with "of the Shattered Sun" and "Champion of the Naaru." Granted I paid the 1000g last weekend to get my Shattered Sun title. I just wish I could transfer my old PvP title between characters :)

Don't the 'hardcore' raiders have anything better to do than nagging about content they defeated ages ago ?
Mjol Apr 27th 2008 9:49AM
Nope

I think only the ones with a superiority complex are the ones complaining. Nihilum themselves recently said they thought the changes to Mag were a positive thing, i.e. placing it at a more appropriate position in the skill progression of a guild, rather than it's previously unrealistic difficulty.

"some people claiming that you can't really call yourself a proper "Champion of the Naaru" if you've only killed the nerfed version of Magtheridon."
I have never seen this. It's not in the forum thread you linked to either.

People who demand respect from a video game need to put the keyboard down and pay more attention at work. I said NO SALT on my fries. Jerks never pay attention when they are working the drive thru....
jabba Apr 27th 2008 9:30AM
lmfao :D
its true-yeah you completed an end game raid-and? you cure cancer? exactly u clicked 2,2,2,2,2,2,2,4 for an hour
"champion of 2,2,2,2,2 spam"
Cynra Apr 27th 2008 9:28AM
I've yet to hear this said on my server as well.
JaneLame Apr 27th 2008 10:15AM
Yeah, I don't think you ever will. This quest line covers most of the T4 content, it's very lengthy and Magtheridon isn't eveything. Nobody disrespects the new champions. Unless people read WoWwiki and adopt such opinions (even though the author did not mean it).
Nick S Apr 27th 2008 6:14PM
everyone's a champion of the friggin whatever now. it's too common to be cool anymore.
Orestes Apr 27th 2008 9:30AM
If you're "leet" it should be fairly ovious by the way you play and carry yourself in game. No need for a promotional dept. or whining about how others got their stuff, it just makes you look like an ass
Orestes Apr 27th 2008 9:30AM
grrr... obvious.
Mats Apr 27th 2008 9:39AM
*yawn* If you don't have Hand of A'dal, you ain't Leet anyway.
Champion of the Naruu might as well be "n00bschool"
Sivar Apr 27th 2008 9:52AM
Scarab Lord and Gladiator are the only titles worth anything in this game.
Elmo Apr 27th 2008 9:54AM
I'm a Draenei Shaman.
did nearly every encounter up to GBB except Magtheridon and Kael'thas.
so I don't have any title at all.
yet my Dwarf Hunter is a Knight (rank 6), and the highest he killed pre-BC was Gehennas.
titles are a silly thing.

Why do people not understand the concept of ambition, drive and the desire to excel?
The entire point of any game is to beat the other players. Anyone who says 'its just a game' is lazy and wants everything handed to them on a platter just because they paid 15 bucks to Blizzard. All you re doing is rationalizing your own lack of ambition and talent.
