Around Azeroth: Why the economic stimulus package failed
More than anyone else, blood elves love a good shopping trip. Except this time. For one thing, everyone is remarkably heavily armed for a fashionable store. And the auctioneer seems to be standing in a bear trap. The giant spider devouring everyone is really just the icing on the cake.
According to Arial of Cairne, she was using Eyes of the Beast to chase a level 68 paladin around Silvermoon City when the paladin whispered her that her spider was huge. This screenshot is from the pally's perspective. Zarakh (soon to be renamed Raze) was never that little in the wild, but placed next to the teeny blood elves, it looks monstrous. What's confusing me here is that the Wowhead comments stated that Zarakh is unusually small after taming. Hunters, I've got to ask you on this one -- is this a normal size for this particular pet, does Eyes of the Beast increase pet size, or is there something else going on here?
Do you have any unusual World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see it on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wow.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. We prefer full screen shots without the UI showing. And please, no more sunsets, and I can't think of anything funny to say here because I have to go fuse materia now.

I'm not going to lie to you ... If I saw a spider that huge or that hideously spiny following me around, I would promptly stop, shit myself, and die of sheer terror.
Xerone Aug 27th 2008 8:24AM
Haha. Good thing you haven't met it.
Good thing I haven't either. My reaction would probably be the same.

Odd ... I would be fascinated to know how Xerone and I were bumped from the first two comments all the way to the end of the current page.

It's a type of food you can give your pet, it comes from the trading card game.

As far as I was aware - the TCG pet biscuits only affect non-combat pets, not hunter ones. I could be wrong though.

I have seen hunters with this issue before, and there was a post on the EU formus yesterday of a screenshot from a player asking how the hunter got the pet so big...but it remain normal size on the hunters screen. General consensus yesterday was that it is just a bug that happens some times, but no-one had an idea of how to replicate it.
And no, sorry, I couldn't find the post :(

It is a bug that occurs randomly where other players see Hunter's pets as their original name / elite status, grown to 2-3 times scale.
No, you cannot feed the Trading Card food to hunter pets, I have tried.

Yes, this was most likely due to the 2.4 bug. I've seen Night Elf hunters with cats as pets who appeared so big that the elves looked like gnomes in comparison to the pet.

THAT is awesome! A little strange, but awesome shot!
I went out and got one of those spiders around Zarakh as soon as I was high enough to do it (lvl 16) on my Hunter Alt.
They do go unusually small when tamed, it really sucks...
But I didn't get the spider queen because there is no point, she will never look like an elite no one would know the difference... and I liked the ones around her with the yellow striped legs, they were a lot less bland.

@5 you are exactly right my friend when the paladin encounters the monster he is viewing as if he approached it in game and WoW says ohg that Zarakh a big scary spider not raze a friendly sidekick.
Useless post, but hey useless posts made the net what it is today.

I get this question all the time on my hunter, "why is your pet so big?" Wish I could see the pet as huge myself.

Awwww... There's my Baby!
I've been using this spider as my pet on Hellscream for awhile now because I really liked the model. It starts off as relatively huge, but unfortunately it actually shrinks down to smaller than a Moss Creeper once you make it your pet. I still really love the model, though.
On a side note I do have to ask Blizzard why the heck that the Scorpid pets get Poison but Spiders only get Bite. I'd love to see Poison or Net being added as a pet skill for Spiders. Granted I can see why they wouldn't want to give Net as a skill since that'd make it evil as hell in the BGs.

Yeah, I've seen this bug a few times. There was a night elf hunter I had seen in the Scryers' bank with a Blade's Edge raptor that was about the size of a Devilsaur. I stopped to stare for a little while, then did my business, got on my flyer to hit up the reagents guy in Lower City. When I came back the nelf and his raptor were still there, but his raptor was back to normal. My boyfriend was on ventrilo with me, so he rolls up into Scryer bank and immediately makes some comment about how huge the raptor was. Definitely a bug, and not really a reproduceable one.

I have witnessed the same thing just outside mag ter. was a nightelf with a scorpion around the same size, got the screen shot of it. think its just a glitch since the patch came out , like how your mount doubles in size when you kiss mojo while mounted. no big deal but still cool to see none the less.

Mania of the Petopia site blogged about this bug a few weeks ago, apparently only some people see it when it happens:
