Around Azeroth: Foreboding planet
And you thought Desolace was the most depressing zone in the game? Think again. Before Burning Crusade, Andostre of <Madorans Fist> on Crushridge snuck into the area that is now Ghostlands. He wrote that he swam up the coast from the Hinterlands and then jumped through a gap in the mountains along the shore. There he found ... well, nothing, aside from an unfinished back view of Stratholme. "Flat, featureless, and bleak," Andostre wrote. "So much so, that I succumbed to the drama and let loose with a /mourn emote for this screenshot." Excuse me a minute: "You maniacs! You blew it up! Ah, damn you! Damn you all to hell!"
Do you have any unusual World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see it on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wow.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. We prefer full screen shots without the UI showing. And please, no more sunsets. It's karaoke/$4 drink night at the Hi5, and I strongly suspect that light will hurt my eyes in the near future.

Back when exploring was actually allowed.
I miss the construction sign at end of the road in Hyjal and looking at Stratholme from below.

Well, I was told at the time that I risked receiving a strongly-worded GM /tell for being there, but at the time, the only options were UBRS, Strat, Scholo, DM, or *shudder* Molten Core, so I was ready to risk it to see something different.

I miss exploring :( On the upside, every time I level a new character, I seem to find something new, no matter how small. Not quite the same, but it's nice that the game is so big there's bound to be a few things you missed the first...few...times.

Blizzard should set up some serious 73 elites for such areas, just to scare the piss out of anyone who happens to stumble in. You look around, unfinished area, oh crap!

This area needs something... Maybe lvl 70 elite ape-men and a nice beach...

And then you'll hear this:
LFM for unfinished area raid! Stick it 2 Blizz! PST

A better idea would be to put something crazy in the areas, like a hostile A'dal or something. If 200k crits don't stop people from running into unfinished areas, nothing will.

I think if you stumble into a no-tresspassing area, a clone of you should spawn ... but a clone of you 10x more powerful.

You can still explore, just go places nobody would want to. Example if you go to say Azshara and swim up towards winterspring there is tons and tons of coast and unfinished mountain zones, different barriers of blank textures and such. Also in the wetlands you can do some spelunking and have picnics in unfinished mountain-tops etc. I find that drugs allow you to put in the hours of swimming or climbing it takes to do these things.

I /salute you for the original Planet of the Apes movie reference. Great movie, especially considering it was made in 1968. Every time i watch it, I'm amazed at the quality in cinematography and "special effects" (put in quotations since there really wasn't anything special about them, from today's point of view, since it was all props and make-up) of that movie.
Oh, and awesome SS.
