Phat Loot Phriday: Rifle of the Stoic Guardian

Name: Rifle of the Stoic Guardian (Wowhead, Thottbot, Goblin's Workshop)
Type: Epic Gun
Damage/Speed: 120-224 / 1.90 (90.5 DPS, which is the highest on a gun, save for the Arena PvP guns in S3 and S4 -- except most of it comes from that low speed, see below)
Abilities:
- +31 Stamina, which might make you think this is a PvP weapon, except for:
- Equip: Increases your dodge rating by 20. Which is a weird little stat -- with the stamina added on to it, that means that this gun (named after a "Stoic Guardian") is basically meant as a Tank pulling gun -- it'll let you shoot bullets and give you about the bonus of a minor trinket to dodge and Stam.
- But if that's true, what's up with that speed? You might think that a high DPS would mean this gun is good for a Hunter, but that's not quite true across the board -- especially for BM Hunters (a.k.a. Hunters that rely on their talents and abilities to do damage), a bullet pouch will often make this gun too fast to sneak special shots in, which will actually lower the DPS you can do.
- But on the other hand, from what I understand, weapon speed doesn't actually affect what happens when you first fire the gun. So the idea here may be that a Warrior, pulling, should have a fast enough gun to get a few shots off during the pull, in order to build up more threat. Why else would Blizzard give tanks such a fast gun?
You might have to fend a few confused Hunters off for it, though. But the dodge rating and the Stamina (not to mention, as we said, the title), should make it pretty clear that this weapon is for a "Stoic Guardian," not a "Pet-loving Peashooter."
Getting Rid of It: Sells for 10g 79s 6c. Will disenchant into a Void Crystal.

Looks really cool for being tank specific :)

Speed was made thus to make sure that Hunters completely ignore this weapon. Period. ;)

Totally correct. The DPS is really nice, but the speed means that no hunter in their right mind would ever be interested in to.

Because it's a tank gun and the speed means as much as the melee damage* on a caster dagger?
What's mysterious about that?
*Melee damage range on a caster weapon does matter insofar as a greater range low-high is cheap on ilevel, allowing other useful stats to be crammed on. I'd imagine high speed on a gun does the same.

I'm not 100% sure about this, but I think that guns with slower speeds take more time to fire after the initial click than guns with quicker speeds. Now if I'm wrong I just haven't been paying enough attention. Faster ranged weapons could be handy for pulling moving mobs when you want to pull them, instead of a second later when they've migrated into their friends. It could come down to the tempo of your pulls. Either way, I'd happily trade in my Vengeful Gladiator's War Edge for it any day.

You are unsure about this because you are incorrect. 0.5, no matter the weapon speed. (Incidentally, this means that the hard cap for haste for hunters is 0.5 seconds.)

It's fast so you can pull quickly when that patrol is moving towards another group of angry looking mobs. That's it.

If by the time you're downing Teron there are hunters in your raid confused enough to want this, there are some problems that you might need to work out with them. One would hope by that point a hunter capable of end-game raiding would know precisely what they're looking for in a ranged weapon. For certain, this gun is purely for the warrior tanks.
