PTR is closed
Hortus just posted that the PTR server for patch 2.4.2 has been taken down, and that the PTR phase for the patch has ended. This is a strong indicator that patch 2.4.2 is on its way soon, perhaps during some expected maintenance tomorrow.Take a look at the official and un-official notes for a comprehensive look at what will change. Nothing in the patch is game-breaking, in my opinion, but there are some nice changes. Some of the major highlights include:
- Changes to the way arena points are calculated.
- Void Shatter no longer has a cooldown, and other cooldowns have been reduced.
- If you are sheeped / polymorphed by a mob, you will no longer gain back health (ie: the mass sheep in Aran, which regens your health before he fire blasts the raid).
- Many main hand weapons are now one hand weapons.
Edit 3:24 p.m. EDT: It should be noted that the final version of the patch notes have not been released yet, however they are usually close to what the PTR patch notes are.

Define other cooldowns.
Spellcloth/Mooncloth/Shadowcloth?
makishima May 5th 2008 3:18PM
Yes most long cool downs, the 3 specialty cloths included, have had their cool downs reduces by a few hours in order to help compensate for people who would make their item late one night and be screwed into having to make the items that late all the time after that.

The one-day cooldowns got shaved to 20 hours and the four day cooldowns got reduced to 92 hours. Makes it a little easier to fit in that transmute every time without having it gradually slip later and later because of not hitting it right on time.

I can't believe that polymorph change went through.
Lucas J May 5th 2008 3:24PM
Tony must not play a squishy class. I am terrified of the Aran fight now.
Khanmora May 5th 2008 3:40PM
As a healer with no group heals I'm more worried about the Ikiss fight in Heroic Sethekk. That sheep was a nice way for a party member to get heals so I could focus on the others.
Manatank May 5th 2008 3:40PM
The solution is simple. Do like always and kill him before he sheeps anyone. In any case Aran is an optional boss, and at worst people will be missing out on two badges and easy wipe recovery.

I can't believe the Scare Beast change went through, it's like banning every Feral from Arena or BGs.
Honestly pissed at this, not even a response in the forums why this is happening in the first place, just because Resto needs to be nerfed doesn't mean that Feral should be unplayable in PvP settings.
chris May 5th 2008 3:23PM
cause every arena team has a hunter
Andrige May 5th 2008 3:27PM
I don't do Arenas, I'm not one of those who wants to be the struggler in the Arenas, I do BGs...
And if you don't think a 30sec CD, 10sec duration completely unavoidable and 30 yards Death-Coil isn't going to affect anything for me or any other Feral Druid who actually PvP tagged as a Beast 95% of the time, is so... so wrong.
Would you want such a counter in any way when you play, only useable against you? 30sec CD, 10sec duration, unavoidable, 30 yards range? Hm?
Manatank May 5th 2008 3:41PM
Don't worry, I won't stop to scare beast a feral. I'll save it for something in a battleground that is actually threatening.
Manatank May 5th 2008 3:46PM
The other thing to consider is that if a hunter does stop to fear you, you will probably get to live for 10 seconds longer than usual.
Andrige May 5th 2008 3:50PM
I guess you're just trying to upset me, cause I don't really see the point of your reply otherwise Manatank.
The fear, is instant cast, you have to be one lazy player if you can't spend that time to nullify another player. I'm not talking AV here where you just ride by each other... come to think of it, I have never said anywhere that I would assume that every Hunter that I meet in PvP looks down at me so much that they ignore me as a threat.
Wow.
Just stop provoking will you and see the bigger picture that I don't even have a fair chance of defeating a Hunter with this, it was hard before but it was doable if you knew how to play, but now it's just impossible.
Mera_LaCroisadeEcarlate May 5th 2008 4:28PM
Hunters #1 don't cry ;)
Royale May 5th 2008 6:59PM
I agree with the druid. I don't mind so much the range change but the insta-cast is ridiculous. Atleast with the (short) cast time there was a chance to counter with shifting out. If the fear was broken on damage it might be more tolerable.
There are not a lot of good hunters in Arena, but in every BG there are mountains of 12 year old noob hunters wearing their season 1 shoulders and rocking their valanos long bow. The only consolation is that after popping my trinket, I can usually drop one of these hunters before the cooldown is up.

Repaired Aspect of the Viper and Scare Beast FTW. Hopefully the riding crop/mount buff changes come through too. Looking forward to the sound fixes as well.
matt May 5th 2008 3:29PM
Whenever anything gets worse it's a "nerf", not a "bug fix". But whenever anything gets better, it's a "repair", not a "buff"?
Brommon May 5th 2008 6:04PM
Amen to the sound fixes! I actually gave up on post-2.4 and turned off everything but voice chat because the sounds were so screwed up for me. It was almost enough to make me just play on the PTR constantly because my sound works there.
matt May 5th 2008 3:28PM
Arena: omg buy your points today! Hurry!
KZ: We run a ton of alts through KZ-- Aran is about to get a lot more interesting. It'll still be an easy fight for all the overgeared groups there for badges, but for groups of toons that can actually get upgrades from KZ, it might be tough.
kuett May 5th 2008 3:57PM
whine more ferals and druids, since when are hunters playable classes on the arena? every arena team includes a hunter lol
u should whine more about the damn warriors and rogues that are too much in each bracket rather then hunters that aren't in any bracket from the top
