WotLK: The rain is coming
While we've gotten tid bits of information here and there from Blizzard posts over the past few months, the news has been relatively dry with regards to any official announcements about Wrath of the Lich King. We know that it's in alpha testing, and we've had a bit of fun with some screenshots. But that's about it.Nethaera tells us that the development is coming along really well, which we've all heard before. However in her typical witty fashion she also gives us this gem of a line, in response to people calling WotLK vapor-ware:
"The great thing about vapor is that at some point it condenses and becomes rain. The rain then falls and nourishes that which it falls on. It takes time for it to happen, but it does happen. Signs point to clouds forming in the sky, but you never can tell when they will let loose the rain..."
Take that for what you will, but I read it pretty squarely as "Some major WotLK news is on its way." And that is news in and of itself.

I read it as "Wotlk" will come out some day... but noone knows when.

And here I thought they were going to add simulated weather to WotLK... :P
Jasperwind May 5th 2008 4:57PM
That's what I thought too :D

Wouldn't it be spiffy? And have the terrain change based on the past few days of weather...

If I recall correctly, the Burning Crusade icon slowly freezing is also an indicator of incoming WotLK news.
Cap May 5th 2008 4:30PM
Wow... I didn't even notice that! Good call...

This weekend, 1up.com's Legendary Thread (MMO podcast) blog put out a call for questions to ask the WoW devs, because some of their staff would be going to the Blizz offices to preview WotLK alpha today (monday). So that's another sign pointing to "lots of new Wrath info coming soon"

Wrath of the Lich King: New Expansion Pack, or most elaborate April 2009 fools joke ever? You decide.

Blizzard has had that disclaimer for years. It has applied to every one of their products.
I can't believe people are calling WotLK vaporware. It's in alpha for christ's sake! People have played the game! That's hardly vaporware!

I personally liked the CMs response. It was really poetic. Personally I'd like it if there weren't that many new skills created, and instead cross-tree builds would be forced to become more popular. If ya want more skills, get an alt :).

"In order to raise awareness of the climate problems facing our planet, we've decided that Northrend will be not frozen tundra, but rather a rainy, melted wasteland destroyed by global warming! You are not prepared... for catastrophic climate change!!!"

We definitely need an abundance of new skills and talents then with the extra talent points you can cross build even more then the current state.

Calling WotLK vaporware because we haven't got much news since it was announced about nine months ago? QQ more. Something tells me the original poster has played few or no Blizzard games before WoW. How long did Diablo II take? Warcraft III? Starcraft II will be something like 12 years.
Also, I too was looking forward to weather effects in the game until I read more closely. Sigh. I don't expect it to be added at this late point, but I've always thought the environment in the game should matter. Fire spells might have a reduced chance to crit when it's raining but frost spells might have an increased chance, wind might effect the chance to hit of projectile weapons, footprints last longer in the snow, etc. There is precedent for this: how Entangling Roots can't be cast indoors. But to be fair to Blizzard, if they take any steps in this direction they might have to explain how any gun or bow can work underwater, and that would be a very big change.

Just saw on X-Play that Morgan Webb is heading over to Blizzards studio to talk some WotLK this week.
Sky looks like rain to me...

Having a physics background, that vapour analogy makes me cringe. :D

this is what you guys consider post-worthy? honestly does noone double check half of the drivel you guys post on this blog? i mean, enough with the "underused talents, what do you guys think?" posts....but this is a bit much imo. honestly, you guys really need to step it up. i honestly think about half of the posts on this blog are completley worthless. whoever is writing your features needs to get shit canned.
