Extended downtime for Tuesday May 6th
The announcement on the login screen tonight tells us that the realms will be down for extended maintenance on Tuesday May 6th, from 3:00 a.m. PDT until 11:00 a.m. PDT. It's curious how extended maintenance used to last from five until eleven, but now lasts an extra two hours – from three until eleven.Today we've seen the PTR (Public Test Realm) go down, and then come back up again. Earlier we thought this was a good indication that patch 2.4.2 was going to be released on May 6th, however with the PTR still being up, we don't believe that will be the case. Of course I could be completely wrong here – and we all might get a shiny new download screen tomorrow morning.
Only time will tell, and stay tuned to WoW Insider for the latest. We'll also keep you abreast of when the realms come back online, and any lingering issues that may arise.

Wonder if this is a tip off to new arena season, or similar in game change. It may just be they need to kick the server gerbils some though.

And another tuesday night unplayable on Oceanic realms due to extended maintenance...
Seriously Blizz, get off your ass. We have had lag spikes during peak times, scheduled maintenance during peak times, among other damn annoying things.
And we're QQing for a reason. Blizzard IS ignoring us, and they're not doing anything to alleviate us of our suffering.

...and I went a little overboard there.
Come on 2.4.2! Though I would be a little pissed if S4 started since I had just got a new mainhand sword for my rogue from honor (lolwelfareepics).

They said that season 4 would be announced two weeks in advance.
Its not season 4.

Hope this is to help we oceanic realmers with our server problems, it's been terrible for weeks.
We can only hope, however small that hope is.
Fraufrau May 6th 2008 5:52AM
That is a small hope - its been 2 months with the Techs "collecting data and making minor changes" i wouldnt expect anything different for another 2 months.

Yeah, I'm sorry blizz, love your game, but for the sake of sweet baby santa, peak time is NOT the best time for oceanic server maintenance! Hey guys! It's 8:00 over in Aus! Helloooooooo?!

Why can't they be more consistent about posting an advance notice of extended maintenance on their bloody realm status forum? Sometimes they do it, sometimes they don't. A little advance warning, or any warning, would be appreciated. We deserve that at the very least.

Seriously guys, you should be USED to this every single week, it's been this way for years now, just don't think about WoW during the common maintenance hours.
Dakota May 6th 2008 7:51AM
At this rate, I'm about to boot WoW totally and get an XBox and get into Madden & NHL Hockey. Dath Remar has turned into a complete joke lately. I want to play - not wait around for maintenance - which seemingly acheives nothing. Blizz can talk about patches and upgrades all it wants - gith now, I just want a bloody game that doesn't crash!

The only reason there is any extended maintenance today is because of the Hangovers/Recovering from yesturday !!
drjonesac2 May 6th 2008 10:57AM
Silly Wowinsider. It's been my experience that Blizz has never released a major patch in the middle of a holiday event. The exception being emergency patches to fix bugs with the holiday (Hello Brewfest!) You can bet that the patch won't be released until after Children's week.

Early shutdown AGAIN! That's at least 3 weeks in a row - I wouldn't know about earlier weeks because I happened to be working those nights.
So the normal maintenance window is 5am-11am... why not make it 5am-1pm instead of 3am-11am? That way Oceanic players get the same 10pm Sydney-time shutdown every week instead of having it vanish at 8pm half the time. I pity the players in the WAST timezone, who probably don't even get home from work before these SIX O'CLOCK shutdowns - rushing through your dailies or whatever it is that the rest of us try to get done before shutdown on a Tuesday just isn't an option for the Perthanoids.
