Addon Spotlight: Steal Your Carbon
Sean is diving, sunning himself and trying to drink all the cervezas in Cozumel this week, so don't feel bad if he doesn't respond to emails and comments. He'll be back in action next week, fresh and ready to re-join the Addon Army's battle for the perfect User Interface!
Welcome to this installment of Addon Spotlight! Today, we're going to take a look at another of Tekkub's addons. I've being singing his praises for weeks now, but don't worry, he's not paying me to do this. I enjoy his addons as they are simple, sleek and highly functional. Besides, eventually I will have written about all of his work, or perhaps not.
So, today we're talking about Steal Your Carbon, a reagent stocking addon. Here is how to get started; open the config window by using this command:
There's a couple more features, come on in the check them out.You can also access the menu by clicking the Steal Your Carbon button found at the top right of the trade window when you visit a vendor. Note however, that in order to drag an item into the restock menu, it has to come from your bag, not the vendor menu. (You need to buy an item before telling the addon to restock it.)
Tekkub also hints at adding a feature that allows you to restock from your bank in the future, so look for that sometime. That is it, another elegant and simple addon from a mad scientist's lab. Enjoy it and lets hear some feedback. Dismissed!
Are you an addon-addict? Is your User Interface a living work of art? Welcome home, my friends! Every week, Addon Spotlight profiles a different addon, brings you mod-related news and dishes out free addon advice. See out what's been said and done in the addon community by checking out past features or our addon and UI directory.

...but what does it do? Automatically buy a certain amount for you from a vendor?

And why would the "Overstock Items" option make sure I always have enough of "whatever item I am stocking"? This article will get me to follow the link, but it makes little sense on its own.

"There's a couple more features, come on in the check them out."
Sorry - your phrase doesn't make sense :P

Some day you will die and somehow something's going to steal your carbon

For Rogues there is a mod called Hemlock that does this and more. It buys all the mats for poisons from the poison vender and will also "one-click" make them all for you

I'll use an example to answer your question. Say that you only have a stack of three waters left. You go the vendor, and Syc restocks your waters. But to what amount? Waters only come in stacks of five, so your restock option is either 18 or 23, because you're starting at a number that is not a multiple of five. The "overstock items" option would choose the 23 if selected, or 18 if if was unchecked.
At least, that's how I read the explanation.

Hmmm... I need something like this... but, not this. I only buy pet food from the vendor. My food/water comes from a mage table. What I would like is something to tell me when I'm low on Fel mana pots, flasks of relentless assualt, mad alchemist pots, Elixir of Major Agility, Mageblood Elixir, etc and how many of each reagent I need to buy. Anyone know of anything like that?
Lazero May 12th 2008 4:24AM
Reagent Restocker does it, and will even put overstock in the bank for you.
Lazero May 12th 2008 4:26AM
oops. not the telling you how much you need part.

This must be what those folks who camp the Darkmoon Faire vendors use to take all the motes and rare gems before anyone can even see them appear.

Stupid question...but you mentioned "upgrade water" and the screenshot shows it. What about the obvious other choice, "upgrade food"?

Food's planned, but it's not as simple as water is, since there's so many different types of each rank of food.
FireStar May 12th 2008 9:28AM
Good to know Tekkub. I know that there are many types of food that are applicable (fruit, veggies, cheese, meat, etc.) Normally, however, only one type of this "lvl required" food is available per whatever vendor that you go through, but still there would be issues of how would you know how many of what type of food they already have so you dont restock them with a different type when they go to a different vendor. I'd probably put checkboxes for like "restock food - meat" and "restock food - cheese", and they can check whatever box they want. Then i'd also put in a check to make sure if they only wanted 40 meat and they have 35 that they only get 5 cheese. Just a suggestion. Not sure how you would implement the UI to say this, because it's too early and i have my own programming to do :).

There is a nice ACE addon, that i use for year.

Is there a UI for FreeRefills? I gave it a try as well, but it seemed like it was going to be more annoying to configure via command line than buying stuff manually.
G May 15th 2008 2:57PM
++Ace, though. :)
Denis May 16th 2008 3:12AM
As far as i know - only command line.

Good stuff you're smoking there man... I made sure the vendor menu works too :P
In other news... YATTA! Another one of my mods. Better churn out some new ones before you run out.

is there an upgrade ammo cuz that would make it so much better
