Breakfast Topic: Convention chaos
We are just about to hit full steam on the convention season, and Blizzard isn't taking any time off this year. Not only did we hear about BlizzCon on Monday, but we already knew that WWI was going to happen in Paris, and then learned that Rob Pardo would be visiting the Paris GDC. And while Blizzard may not be officially a presence at other cons this summer, their presence is going to be felt for sure -- PAX, GenCon, or DragonCon, whereever there are gamers together, there is WoW.So where are you going to be? Planning on visiting any cons this year? I won't say it's hassle-free -- the crowds, lines, and just plain costs of these things tend to make me avoid them, especially right after I've been to visit one. But then again, every year around this time I start to get excited about maybe going to them again, and while I have no idea what my plans are right now, I can tell you for sure that WoW Insider will have a presence at all kinds of conventions this year.
What about you?

I'll be at dragoncon like last year, taking photos as usual. Since I'll be shooting for the SCAD-Atlanta newspaper I should be able to get a media badge.
Hopefully they won't screw us over on rooms like last year, leaving hundreds (estimate) of people stranded for the costume contest.
Also, Scott Mercer, lead encounter designer, already attended the Game Developers eXchange here at SCAD-Atlanta a few weeks ago. His panel didn't reveal anything particularly new, but it was a nice look at how encounters are developed in WoW, as well as how lore factors in.

So how can I find out when a con is coming to the DC area?

Conventions don't really interest me. Travel costs, admission costs, plus the fact that I don't really care to deal with 20% of the convention's populace not bathing 24 hours prior to the event.

http://www.animecons.com/events/
Just because the site is called animecons.com doesn't mean it's just for anime cons. It also keeps track of gaming, sci-fi, and comic cons.
And if there are cons missing, I didn't look that hard to see if it had them all.

BlizzCon all the way! But this time if you post a picture of me, I insist that it not be when I've just woken up, trekked through those long windy tunnels to the convention for coffee only to find I've lost my ATM card! Pleeeeease?

I would for sure go to one if any were in my state or within a 6 hour drive. When it means a plane ticket and hotel, there are just other vacations I would rather go on. Unless of course I was being paid, thats a whole different story. :-)

How sad is it that the first thing I noticed was the white-haired wizard chick copping a feel? I gotta get out more.

what is even sadder is my comment...
she is a priest.

I usually go to Gen Con Indy every year. Blizzard usually has something set up there. Last year it took place like a week after BlizzCon, so it had the exact same display set up... StarCraft II and a really early build of Wrath that were both playable.
This year, however, Gen Con takes place before BlizzCon. If Blizz has a booth again, I wonder if the Gen Con crowd will get to see some neat new stuff first.

I'm happy there will be a BlizzCon this year, as I am skipping GenCon because of the bankruptcy nonsense and I won't go to DragonCon ever again because of the high percentage of perverts, weirdos and "fetish" people. It'll be my first BlizzCon and first time in California. I'm excited!

Is it me or is the white haired chick a priest carrying a druid staff? I could be wrong though. From the picture she looks hot though.
