Forum menus tweaked, cleaner and easier to browse

Something like this was probably inevitable, considering how much Blizzard's WoW forums have been multiplying -- there's one for every release, event, and topic Blizzard can think of. And considering they have only so many people running them, it means the threads further off the beaten path, especially realm threads, can run rampant with forum violations.
Not that that's a problem -- what's in those threads can be pretty entertaining. But Blizzard moderates the forums for a reason, and the more threads they have, the harder time they'll have moderating them.

Slow news day?
Badger May 15th 2008 3:01PM
You know, every single time that one of the Bloggers posts something that has little to do with in-game content, one of the first people to Comment always asks if it's a "Slow News Day."
This happens almost as frequently as the (completely unjustified) Holisky-hate, Rossi-hate, and Schramm-hate that happens every time one of those guys submits something new.
I mean, I'm not complaining - I know that some of this stuff may appear somewhat irrelevant or less entertaining than the other content on this Blog - but is it really necessary to respond with a sarcastic quip every time that a post isn't directly related to the game's contents? Would you rather posts were restricted solely to patch news or "Wrath of the Lich King" updates?
I'm sure that establishing and maintaining a full-time or part-time career as a Blogger requires a little more diligence and work than an "Average Joe" like you or I might think. Would you prefer that news were restricted to official releases, like the myriad Elder Scrolls sites (and the official site), where you get an update maybe once every month and a half? Would you prefer the site broadened its horizons to cover new developments on more Blizzard titles (none of which anyone outside the company is permitted to know about until days before a release, if that)?
On an unrelated note, I'm surprised I had so much to say on this subject. I guess it must be a Slow Work Day. :-P

Well, it's almost akin to having an article:
"Newflash: The sky is blue!"
Not to mention that the changes have been in effect a while ago. I would understand if the post was done around the time the changes were made, but it isn't.
Badger May 15th 2008 3:51PM
Ah! Well, Pzych, I apologize. I avoid the "official" Forums like the plague, so I haven't really noticed how long the so-called "new" changes have been in effect. Still, though, hopefully you can see my point.

I agree Badger. Pzychotix posted something stupid like this on the updated wowwiki post as well. Some people find this interesting. If it doesn't interest you, move along already. How hard is that?
I also keep seeing user posts about how wowinsider used to be more informative. I don't think this is the case. I think they are just posting a lot more blogs. WoW has tons of new users and they are trying to make sure that not only us old timers are up to date but also the new comers as well. Not everyone is going to find every single post, every single day of monumental value. Get over it. WoWInsider isn't slipping, they are doing their job. And a damn good one too if you ask me.

Again, the point of me saying slow news day is the fact that old news is being scrounged up.
I would find zero problem with it if it was actually "news", but it's not new.

Realm List drop down menu is a mess when it comes to long server names that messes up the positioning of names :/

Uhh... it's been like that for at least two weeks.
jacksonibanezpeavey May 15th 2008 2:56PM
The forums were changed a couple weeks ago. You've linked to them many times since.
This just goes to show that you're behind the times when you do your own reporting. Check out LJ, maybe they have something you all can rehash.
BTW Mike, they should replace you with Rossi. He can write interesting articles on fairly boring topics. Yours are short, generally irrelevant, little blurbs that mostly inform the readers on nothing.

Somebody just cranked the Harshometer all the way to 11!
Zeplar May 15th 2008 3:41PM
Wow jackson.... just wow.
But this was a disappointing article, it's been around for weeks and it didn't tell us anything :\

I didn't notice it until I read this article. I am far from a fan of Mr. Schramm, but this article was useful and informative to me.
The UI change is a good step in the right direction. However, anyone with more than a few minutes of IA (Information Architecture) experience is still going pass out if they visit that page. There is still very little organization or logical grouping, outside of the new blocks at the bottom.
