Nice article, I'm a feral tank myself but I've been fairly lucky with most of my PuGs (heroics these days).
"very few tanks have extensive experience with every class at 70"
Heh, I'm still 4 70s shy of this acomplishment.

Some of us actually know what every class can do though. I'm tired of running PuGs and having to explain to DPS the things their class can do.
Yes mr warlock, I only brought you to magister's terrace so you could banish or enslave the succubus so it wouldn't seduce me and let the rest of the mobs slaughter the party. I figured as a primary DPS class you'd have a good shot at being able to put out damage. I was obviously wrong about that, but it wasn't a deal breaker. But seriously, you don't even know what enslave is? Why'd you tell me "no problem" if you didn't know what I meant when I asked if you could enslave it? No, you can't enslave it with your current pet out. Yes, enslave can break and you'll have to re-enslave it. Yes, it's fine if you want to keep your pet out and banish it instead, but please remember to rebanish it when it gets loose because with your lack of damage we are still killing the other mobs 20 seconds later. No, it wasn't okay that you rolled need on the epic healing ring after the rest of the group just carried you through the instance.
I'm so sick of PuGing MrT. I'm a decent pally tank, and I run with a really good healer, so we usually PuG our dps when guildies aren't available. Most 5-mans are a breeze because a good healer/pally tank combo allows runs with no CC and hence very little actual skill required from DPSers (DPSers good enough to have gear that would let them pull agro off of me are also typically good enough to know not to). MrT on the other hand requires actual skill and attention to group composition. Requiring skill out of DPS destroys PuGing for me. It is rare to find, and way too frustrating.

Oh, and I guess part of my point is that after running tanking MrT, and needing to count on my DPSers I finally understand the pain warriors and druids feel when PuGing any 5-man. When they have to count on CC, they have to count on their DPS not to be morons. That alone is probably why tanks are so hard to find for PuGs. I never really understood it before this.

I am just glad to get into any heroic. When I get a tankadin they are usually surprised at me sitting around a good 5 seconds after all totems are down before opening up. Then Omen explains it.
MrT requires a real group, but you can use an enhancement shaman, trust me. The 3rd boss is the only issue. Prior to that the shaman will tank a caster by themselves and shut them completely down while burning them fast. It's like a CC that is killing the mob where you don't worry because the guy isn't taking enough damage to care.
That 3rd boss though... ugh. Kael is a joke if they can swim up and just pummel him while he channels.
