WoW Model Viewer updated for 2.4.2
If you're a machinimist or just someone who likes to poke around the game files trying to see what The Ultimate Druid would look like (yeah, I'm guilty), good news; Wow Model Viewer has been updated for patch 2.4.2. I haven't used it since the patch hit, but according to the mod's site a few twitchy issues popped up that have since been fixed. The developer warns that this version will not work with any version of Wow pre-2.4.2, so if you haven't downloaded and installed the patch yet, don't install this update until you do.
If you haven't had the chance to use WoW Model Viewer previously, give it a shot -- it's a wonderfully addictive little mod and a great way to get a closer look at the detail that goes into the game.

I've never been able to get WoW Model Viewer to work for longer than 30 seconds, the a get a Runtime error. Seems like it would be a neat program.

If only someone would make it work on a Mac...
Allison Robert May 15th 2008 2:32PM
Yeah - for both that and Rawr I have to fire up my Dell laptop instead of the MacBook Pro I use for just about everything else. Wtb more Mac lurve.

Allison, the new version of Rawr has beta Mac support. It does crash a lot, though.

Boot Camp?
Parallels?

Feh! The lazy computer user cares not for these things!

Is there a program that would let me explore instances and the world since the model viewer only displays single models?

Those are called private servers and you'd use them at your own risk.
Savvy?

That would be WoW Map Viewer. It's on the same site that you download WoW Model Viewer from in the link posted.

Do you think you could repost a link that doesn't require you to go to a site that sends Win32 Exploit APSB08-11 when you visit it? :p

So... is there a way to make my toon in-game look like the one I made in the Model Viewer? Not sure how to do that...
Rob Jun 10th 2008 9:37AM
Harper, I'm pretty sure there's a way but you could get banned for it (it's illegal in game)
I've also been having my own problems, whenever I try to open the file it gives me either this:
"This application has failed to start because SDL.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix the problem."
this:
"Error: Cannot initialize OpenGL extensions."
or this:
"Runtime Error! This application has requested the runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Contact support team for more info."
The strange thing is that the SDL.dll file is in the folder, but it still gives me the same issue. I tried re-installing, but still no luck. I'm thinking my only problem is with the runtime error because it looks like the program is about to start (until the error shows up). Anyone else having similar issues? Anyone know how to fix this?

Even the latest version of this program is less than perfect. In fact, as good as it is, I find it to be very buggy. Trying to view buildings and whatnot is a pain, and sometimes you can't even get it to do that without exiting on its own, or giving you an error that shuts down the program. Me thinks the developers have a bit of work to do on this thing...
