Deep Breath Syndrome and related ailments

Burning Crusade has spread this phenomenon to other bosses, too. In Karazhan alone, the Prince, the Maiden of Virtue, and Nielas Aran seemingly cast whatever it is they cast more frequently. Infernals, Holy Fire, Flame Wreath, the whole shebang. In general, this crops up for encounters that have an element of randomness. Malchezar's infernals can drop wherever they'd like. Safe spots are only safe until the randomness of the encounter decides to be random. In the case of Deep Breath, it simply occurs for your raid more often because you didn't take the proper steps to prevent it.
I actually think it's sort of fun to see so many people complain about these things with every patch because it's a good sign of the encounters actually working as intended. I just wonder how many encounters this has applied to over the years. Onyxia is most famous for it, but how far does Deep Breath Syndrome reach?

That was absolutely intended to be a reply to my2cents and the damned thing even said "replying to my2cents [Undo]", but -- as always -- the epic comments boss has defeated me again.

Don't worry, you are not the only one that thinks the comments system here sucks golf balls through a garden hose.

Yeah, I don't mind the change really. Just thought I'd point it out in response to the article (seemingly) implying that such a change was imaginary when Alex wrote, "Burning Crusade has spread this phenomenon to other bosses, too...Malchezar's infernals can drop wherever they'd like. Safe spots are only safe until the randomness of the encounter decides to be random" >.

Onyxia blatantly DID Deep Breath more due to an unrelated code change (bug). At the time we killed her every few days and she would DB 0-3 times per encounter.
After this patch in question (it's aeons ago) she did TWENTY THREE (23) Deep Breaths that encounter and the forum was flooded with tales of 15-20 DBs. At 23 we still had the most ever I think! :P
Anyway, Blizzard confirmed it and fixed it.
So you and everyone else who loves to drop this quote needs a new analogy.

Having killed her yet again on Saturday (5-17), we got exactly 3 deep breaths before stage 3 kicked in. We have 2 people with any frame of reference to "before" or "after" Onyxia nerfs so we can't say if the fight is different than before. We can say that 3 deep breaths which take out people who don't run fast enough is more than enough deep breaths for us.
What we did notice was the stinkin' fear. Our last encounter with her, fear was about once every minute or so. I swear, and I'll have to look at the video to confirm, I'm thinking there was fear every 5 seconds or less. Vent comments of "Jeezus, not again" were very prevalent.
Still, it didn't help her. She died, we danced and are looking at killing her again in June.
Loved the hogger reference. "Brilliant!"

Ony's deep breath is random but incredibly predictable it based on percentile. When Ony is in the air she has a 33% chance of going one of three directions. If she choose the center route (I believe its north) she will deep breath if she choose one of the other 2 routes she will not. This was verified in the Dungeon Guide that came out pre-expansion. So on some nights when she seemed to be deep breathing more then usual it just meant a bad roll of the dice, that is it.
