No new character slots for Wrath of the Lich King, says Bornakk
If you're planning to make a Death Knight on your favorite server, and you're an altoholic (I myself am guilty on both counts), you've probably already thought about your delimma, and Bornakk drove home the point today: There are still no plans to make extra character slot for WoTLK. Just like the problem you may have had deciding what characters to delete to make your Draenei or Blood Elf, you'll have to make the same decision again.
I suppose it's understandable. I'm sure it would be a rather large jump in server storage space needed to give everyone a massive amount of extra characters. Still, It's going to be tough for a lot of people to delete or transfer a character so they can play their new Death Knight with their friends, I imagine.
Bornakk does point out that at least, with the level 55 creation level, you can start the Death Knight on a seperate server and get a feel for it before deciding if you want to delete or transfer a character on your main server. Still, I know that half the fun for me is getting a good name reserved for my character, so I've personally already deleted a lowbie Draenei Paladin from my main server in order to create a placeholder character with my chosen name.
[Thanks for the forward, Kevin!]

Good. CC has too many spacegoat tankadins already.
Meanwhile, I'm testing Undead female melee animations on another server while my slot for Haeven is saved. Worried about the potential for a second Hero Class announcement at Blizzcon though. Then I'll have to get rid of my hunter bank.

For real.
"I'm sure it would be a rather large jump in server storage space needed to give everyone a massive amount of extra characters."
Like Blizzard does not have the funds to buy extra hard drives.

This is absolutely horrible news! I've got a 70 of every class, and quite a few of them are geared. So I have to delete one? Dump what...100+ hours of work, just to experience the new class? I'm being penalized because I liked this game enough to play every class to 70 and raid with a handful of them even? And don't give me the "roll on another server" crap - everyone has a server they play on where all their friends are on, rolling on another server doesn't seem like an option. Gah, all because they don't want to add a single freaking slot.

Then buy another friggin' account. You clearly have the time/money to do so.

Was talking to my brother the other day, and he said something about Multiple Hero classes. Now he's quit wow a while back, so he hasn't kept up like I have. However, he said something about a Demon Hunter from the Hunter Class. I know that several old thoughts on the "Other" Hero classes have been dropped. Was this one of them? Heh, I'd love this one.
Daniel Whitcomb May 19th 2008 8:30PM
There's never been an official list of planned Hero classes, Timothy. Some people have made wish lists, but Hero classes themselves have never really been discussed by Blizzard until the Death Knight class came up. Right now, I wouldn't count on any specific other hero classes that might or might be implemented. Enjoy the Death Knight for what it is, and maybe in future expansions we'll get more.

There was an interview once with Jeff K I believe that had mentioned that they have tossed around the idea of an Arch Druid but that means NOTHING because the only official Hero class released is the Death Knight.
Matthew May 19th 2008 8:40PM
I believe multiple hero classes were originally talked about before WoW even came out, and that their disappearance from the original game was a source of some contention. I don't know if they ever got specific about their plans, though.
CvijaFaQ May 19th 2008 8:40PM
Actually the concept of hero classes has be brought up by Blizzard long time ago, probably before the first release, but it was scraped and then brought back to life.

I have 10 70's (one of each class on alliance, and a horde shaman from the pre-TBC days) on the same server. If I had to, I suppose I could move the horde shaman to another server. But after that, I refuse to delete any of the remaining toons. If Blizzard wants to add another class beyond death knight without allowing more character slots, I would simply cancel. None of the 70's I have is expendable. All are raid capable with epic flying mounts. It's been a good run, but I would have no regrets leaving after 4+ years.
Antiwhinger May 19th 2008 9:24PM
There are enough character slots even with the new death knight unless you have any twinks. I have 9 lvl 70s (1 of each class) on my alliance server and all i would be replacing is my bank toon. but if i had a twink i probably wouldn't like having to delete or move him to make room for the new class.
As for more classes, if they do actually add more I am sure they will add more slots. they would atleast make room for one of each class.
Derick May 20th 2008 3:07AM
You *could* just decide to not delete any...
and not make a death knight...
Your original thought is basically like cutting off your face to spite your nose.
(I know the phrase was reversed BTW. It fits the scenario better.)
Daimon May 20th 2008 8:46AM
omg dude!! you should get out more, I though I was an altoholic with 4 70s.
BTW there was an old post in a wowfan site where all the Hero classes (supposedly) incoming were posted, the DK was among the list, along with the archdruid, demon hunter, etc. It was nothing official, but I think it is a good prediction.
But Daniel, didn't say blizzard that this is going to be the last expansion? and the rest is coming in patches?
Daniel Whitcomb May 20th 2008 12:51PM
Daimon,
No, They've never said WoTLK would be the last expansion. I am pretty positive we will see more. At the least, we'll see the Maelstrom.
brittwilson May 19th 2008 8:52PM
Didn't in all that WotLK news a week or two ago say that making a death knight would not take up a character slot?
Daniel Whitcomb May 19th 2008 8:58PM
I don't believe it said that, britt, but it did say that you wouldn't have to "sacrifice" a pre-existing character to make the Death Knight, perhaps that what you were thinking of?
brittwilson May 19th 2008 9:20PM
That is what I was thinking of. But doesn't that still mean the same thing? Maybe I'm missing the point of both the article and the forum post, but It seems to me that people are worried with all their alts gilling thier max character slots, they are not going to be able to have a Death Knight, but with Blizzard saying you wont have to "Sacrifice" a character to make one, isn't it just an argument with no problem?
Maybe I'm totally just not reading right today.....
jbodar May 19th 2008 9:44PM
You only have to "sac" an alt if you are already at max toons per realm. People were concerned by rumors that that they'd have to "convert" a toon into a DK. Personally, my stable is split between 3 servers, so I'm good.
typobox May 19th 2008 9:47PM
The "sacrifice" in question here isn't in relation to deleting an existing character to free up a character slot, but rather in having to "transform" the existing character to get your Death Knight. In other words, in the hypothetical sacrifice scenario, you'd be permanently changing the class of your existing character to Death Knight, as opposed to simply creating a new character as a Death Knight.
