No new character slots for Wrath of the Lich King, says Bornakk
If you're planning to make a Death Knight on your favorite server, and you're an altoholic (I myself am guilty on both counts), you've probably already thought about your delimma, and Bornakk drove home the point today: There are still no plans to make extra character slot for WoTLK. Just like the problem you may have had deciding what characters to delete to make your Draenei or Blood Elf, you'll have to make the same decision again.
I suppose it's understandable. I'm sure it would be a rather large jump in server storage space needed to give everyone a massive amount of extra characters. Still, It's going to be tough for a lot of people to delete or transfer a character so they can play their new Death Knight with their friends, I imagine.
Bornakk does point out that at least, with the level 55 creation level, you can start the Death Knight on a seperate server and get a feel for it before deciding if you want to delete or transfer a character on your main server. Still, I know that half the fun for me is getting a good name reserved for my character, so I've personally already deleted a lowbie Draenei Paladin from my main server in order to create a placeholder character with my chosen name.
[Thanks for the forward, Kevin!]

I like that we can create a Death Knight on another server. I will probably roll one on the server where I play horde so that I can have a higher level toon to get some easy money for the lowbies that I started.

If you had 2 mules like me, I deleted one earlier this week and started using the gbank on the first mule and bought 3 slots. I might buy the 4th soon but its worth it in the long term.

Y'know the more I hear about Death Knights, the more I disliking the whole inclusion.

Well I have 5 70's and 4 60+'s. I sure as heck aint getting rid of any of those so looks like my 29 twink is going bye bye.
As it stands though with the addition of death knights we're up to 10 playable classes, if they plan on adding more hero classes then hopefully they'll add more slots otherwise I can foresee alot of backlash from the community for having to pick and choose their classes.

I guess this means the days of my blood elf level 19 twink hunter are numbered. D:
RIP Petewentz the hunter. LOL. We'll miss you when you're gone.

I would just like to point out, that there is NO NEWS HERE.
The exact quote from Bornak in the post is " We currently don't plan to add additional character slots", which is exactly what they've been saying all along, and does not in fact rule out the chance that they will eventually add another character slot for WotLK.

This is really silly. It's what...2008? Blizzard cant afford technology that would remedy thier 'omg server space' problem? You know what, i don't think I'll ever use up all 50 or my character spaces. How about giving us maybe 20 characters spaces and maybe 12 slots for each server.
Seriously, I dont want to play on any other realm other than my home. It's really stupid.
Tridus May 20th 2008 6:09AM
I'm sure they can. Storage space to store one character amounts to basically nothing. What actually matters is concurrency, and you're still hitting the database the same amount if you're on a DK or some other character.
The storage space reason is speculation.

Come on, we all know this is because they know people will buy second accounts.

Quick noobish question:
So they require that you have at least 1 toon that's level 55...does this mean that the level 55 character gets converted to a DK or You get to do a quest on that toon to unlock the DK.
I don't get to play much, have one level 70 toon and I absolutely dont like to have it converted to a DK.
Daniel Whitcomb May 20th 2008 1:46AM
Agile,
The DK will be available for creation immediately upon installation of WoTLK if you have a level 55 character. You will not need to "sacrifice" any character for the Death Knight, nor will you need to complete a quest chain on another character. All you need is a free character slot on the server your choice in which to make the Death Knight.
The only way you will need to "sacrifice" a character is if your slots are completely full on that Realm, then you'll have to delete or transfer a character just as you would to create any new character on a full Realm.
Agile May 20th 2008 1:57AM
oh, I would have thought the same...but was banking of "sacrificing" one of your toons for a Death Knight. I'm not sure if I've got my lore of Warcraft right but I remember Arthas was a Paladin and got "converted" to DK.
I was thinking of rolling a Paladin to 55, sacrifice it to become a DK. Feels...heroic IMHO. Light Paladin that gave in to the dark. :))
The price you pay for having to play a Hero class...
Thanks
Derick May 20th 2008 3:08AM
exactly
aren't we paying pretty regularly?
I would think the cost for expanding one space would be made up pretty goddam quickly.

What we should have is a max number of characters per account, and the freedom to put them all on the same server if we want. (would there be technical limitations to that ?)
Ravenswing May 20th 2008 5:16AM
It'll be easy for me... I won't create a DK. Why bother, everyone else will.
Eternalpayn May 20th 2008 7:48AM
Haha, I made myself a placeholder name too. I'm using it as a temporary bank alt, actually. Anyone like the sound of the name "Dpsknight" for a death knight?
Calminaion May 20th 2008 9:00AM
OMG Seriously, I think that name sucks sooo bad .. you have no idea ... think of a better one .. no, really ... do it !!!!
Eternalpayn May 20th 2008 7:49AM
I thought 90% of the game never made it past Kara because 90% of the game took place before you have access to Kara?
PJ May 20th 2008 7:53AM
"I suppose it's understandable. I'm sure it would be a rather large jump in server storage space needed to give everyone a massive amount of extra characters."
Nonsense - you can make 50 characters pr account - that wouldn't change, only the server you made them on.
