The submission deadline for the
L70ETC music video contest has passed, and the contestants are starting to upload their work to
Warcraftmovies. That's where we found this
interpretation of
Rogues Do It From Behind, by
Saphira. This
machinima was obviously model viewed, but I think the editor did a pretty good job, despite having quite an awful song to work with. Personally, I'd rather hear more from
Gnomechewer's
Lower City Gypsies.

Wow, that song IS pretty effing bad! It doesnt even sound like L70ETC thought of it as an original song, its as though they were mocking themselves. Aweful song, indeed!
YPEELS40 May 21st 2008 12:25PM
The song was part of a blizzard contest to make a music video for that song.
I kinda like it to be honest.
kgn May 21st 2008 12:40PM
meh, i like it.
made me roll another rogue
twh May 21st 2008 1:27PM
So, it sounds just like every other metal song... which can be described in two words:
BOR-ING.
Zai May 21st 2008 4:10PM
Ohh don't even for a second dis Metal. I can only imagine what crap you listen to.
twh May 21st 2008 4:40PM
You mean like music that was written a few hundred years ago and is still listened to today? Composers like Palestrina, Beethoven, Schubert, Mozart, whose works are revered because they've withstood the test of time, whilst crap like this is heard and forgotten within a decade?
Get over yourself, kid. Popular music, which includes metal, is just that. It's popular for a season and forgotten. Granted, there are a few exceptions to the rule, but for the most part, most of any genre of entertain is composed of ninety percent garbage and this isn't exempt. Will there be a few mementos of metal's hay day? Certainly, but it's certainly not to the level of complexity of, say, Joseph Haydn's 'Creation' and the many Requiems or Operas of most german composers who died from either Syphilis or other social diseases.
It's different, and since I'm biased and low on patience for something I've heard a hundred times before, consider it derivative and as such, inferior. But, that shouldn't bother you since it's merely my opinion, and I am therefore free to express it as such and for you to take it as such. You can say the same about what I prefer to listen to, but you already made that clear already.
So, yes, I am dissing Metal, but only the generic kind and this is as generic as it gets.
Freehugz May 21st 2008 4:42PM
Metal is very much an acquired taste.
I'm with twh on this one. The genre is pretty dull if you haven't taken the time to get used to it.
Zai May 21st 2008 5:41PM
Am I suppose to feel ashamed cause you tried to 1-up me with that " I listen to classical, there for I'm intelligent and have a great understanding of true music" BS? Whatev, however I would agree that most "generic" metal is crap, but next time I would be more detailed in your first post, cause someone is bound to disagree with ya.

Metal takes it's roots from classical music more than any other genre. Mostly the power, the passion and the bass.
Also, I don't really live in a western country, but I've never seen metal to be considered as popular.
You'd probably think I'm going overboard here, but some of it is extremely complex, especially in the progressive and technical death metal genres.
Of course you need a certain mentality to enjoy the music and like the imagery behind the whole genre, and a really experienced ear to move to the more extreme sub-genres.
99% of music is shit, but that's true for every era and every genre, and who says that albums like "Reign in Blood" by Slayer or "Vulgar Display of Power" won't be listened in 100 years? Reign in blood is still really popular among metal heads after 22 years.
CvijaFaQ May 21st 2008 6:05PM
Forgot to mention that classical music also has some pretty dark and twisted imagery, just like metal.

considering none of the members of L70ETC are professional musicians (they are of course, Blizzard developers, with Samwise of course as the lead singer) its not a bad song (in my opinion of course) also consider that all thier songs are based on specific source material (World of Warcraft of course)
that being said....not a badly done video....
natz May 25th 2008 10:38AM
I love the song, i think its awesome.. and this video don't suck as many others do
Stoneblade May 21st 2008 2:07PM
OK, I'm gonna go ahead and admit it...
I find the lack of ears on Samuro (a.k.a., the lead singer) to be rather upsetting.
Unmei May 21st 2008 2:54PM
While the concept of the lower Cities Gypsies is cool...... =/ atleast Lvl70etc write their own stuff...... it's not someone elses music.
BaronSoosdon May 21st 2008 5:21PM
I gotta congratulate the author for coming up with a video for this not too shabby song. I tried to think of something, but the song was just too "meh.." and the (EU) prizes were uninteresting so no thanks. When I make machinimas "forced" they end up sucking really bad.
As for this video then: overusing the lightray effect from Vegas: absolutely no thanks, it looks very cheesy. The editing was sometimes OK, but there were too much of scenes where the model viewing was too apparent in the wrong way.
I have not heard of this machinimaker before, but if this is his first works - a quite well done job. There is still a room for quite a lot of improvement.

Metal heads should know better than to try and explain to others why it rocks ... These people are happy with their Gareth Gates and Take That clones so leave them be.
That said, this is not a good L70ETC song ... Then ... None of them are particularly great. But they don't have to be. Because they rock regardless.
Probably the best entry so far.

What is that supposed to mean? This video wasn't done by the people who made the song any more than gnomechewer's one was.
