The new and improved Murlocs
Just in case you missed it the other week, my absolute favorite part of all the new expansion news was that we will, for the first time ever, be doing something with Murlocs besides killing them. In the Borean Tundra, there will apparently be two Aldor- and Scryer-like factions, with one being called "Wolvar" and consisting of "wolverine people" of some kind (probably not the same as Worgen), and the other being our favorite gurgling landfish.Which is not only awesome because, man, we sure missed Murlocs in Outland, and also because apparently the Oracles (that's what the faction will be called) will be a reputation faction, so we'll actually get to earn reputation with Murlocs. We have no idea how we'll possibly communicate with them, though -- rumor is that they're "more evolved" than the murlocs we've been fighting so far, but it would be super out-of-place to see a Murloc saying anything other than "Murrrglgglrrlgglll!!"
Then again, we already know it's possible (at least unofficially) to capture a live Murloc and develop a translator. Never underestimate the power of goblin ingenuity, I guess.

Oh ho! Do want!
I can already see the Tradechat spam for people looking for anything that needs Wolvar rep.
Ametrine May 22nd 2008 7:16PM
Screw the Wolvar. I'm gonna farm Murloc rep.

Man, how about as you gain rep you learn Murloc'nise. Or you get a babble fish item that allows you to communicate and understand all Murlocs.

Oh man those wolves are so hosed! What's the ratio going to be here, 1/60? 1/80? Boned even if there is a full moon every single night of the week.

Wow those arn't murlocs. At least not your Old Azeroth Grand Pappys murlocs.
Ametrine May 22nd 2008 9:44PM
Those aren't murlocs.
Yeng May 23rd 2008 9:45AM
Well, the article did say they were called the Oracles and were more evolved. I'd say those creatures in the pictures are indeed related to the Murlocs that we know (Bipedal fish-folk). They do look pretty awesome in my opinion.

those are scary looking little things I changed my mind. Im gonna kill those things

So, can we become neutral or friendly with all murlocs? So that we don't get zerged by them trying to do something else?
(I know, it's more like Ogri'la, but still)
Aladek May 23rd 2008 10:22AM
YES! I think they should allow you to become friendly with all old world Murlocs. I mean, come on, by the time your high enough to grind this rep I can't think of any Murlocs that would even pose a threat.
On the other hand I want to roll a Murloc... just name the cost, even if I have to sacrifice my main...

Murlocs eat their leaders at the end of each month as a show of respect. This means the higher your reputation level, the larger your aggro radius. Being exalted sucks in every murloc in the zone as soon as you arrive at the local flightmaster.
Trache May 22nd 2008 10:46PM
Didn't some murlocs talk to the horde, or at least speak... orcish... in the Horde's extra campaign? You know, where Thrall meets 'dem trolls and Sen'jin gets a dagger in the...
ILikePvPbuthatePvPers May 23rd 2008 12:50AM
Exactly. Murlocs CAN talk.
Bromnir May 23rd 2008 12:53AM
Damn, I'd almost forgotten about that! Good memory.
Now I want to go reinstall WC3 just to replay that and make sure we're remembering it accurately. But yeah, I do seem to recall something like that happening.

I'm going to level with the Wolves, because so many people will be grinding rep with the Merlocs, the Wolves stuff will be valuable.
