Breakfast Topic: Stupid mistakes
Last night in Heroic Magister's Terrace, I accidentally ninjaed a Cudgel of Consecration. I'm not sure what was going through my head -- I'm currently a Holy priest, and clearly need it much less than the Prot pally tank I was grouped with. Somehow I'd gotten under the impression that it was a healing item, or something. I was, understandably, promptly called a noob and yelled at by several members of the group, and there are a couple hunters out there who may well never group with me again. I profusely apologized to the tank, and we both opened tickets and sat around in the instance waiting for them to get answered. (The response, un-helpfully enough, was "your ticket has been escalated; this may take several days to be resolved.")I gave him the mats for a Major Spellpower enchant, to put on the Cudgel once he gets it, to help make up for my stupidity. We parted on pretty good terms; we're hopeful that the GMs will sort this out. But picking up that item may well have been the biggest "d'oh" moment I've had in the game thus far. Either that, or accidentally taking a point in Throwing Weapon Specialization one time while respeccing my rogue. What's the most boneheaded mistake you've made in your WoW career?

Rolling a hunter as my main and leveling it. How was I supposed to know I'd be useless and unrecruitable in the endgame on my server.
Callidon May 24th 2008 9:16AM
Were you born a dumbass or did that come later? Maybe your biggest WoW doh! moment was clicking install. My main is a hunter, and he's end game. Only reasons hunters don't get rcruited are that there are loads on your faction to make a spot not available or you just plain suck, i think i know which category you fall into........
Ruva May 24th 2008 9:20AM
I feel for you. I did the same thing and now, my server is so full of hunters that she's useless.
Alchemistmerlin May 24th 2008 10:28AM
Wow Callidon, didn't get your morning coffee yet?
You really shouldn't take your class so seriously.
Especially as a hunter.
Thakgor May 24th 2008 4:48PM
Wow Callidon, um, well on my server it's full of hunters so it's really difficult to get one into an endgame guild. Shu'halo is 3rd from the bottom on progression so it's difficult for this reason as well. I wasn't saying hunters are useless in the endgame, nor was I trying to disparage your character. I'm sorry if you found my comment misleading I will consider your feelings next time. I am truly sorry for being so thoughtless.

I once ninjad T5 gloves by accident... On Master Looter, too. X___X Had a brain freeze, rolled, won, our ML gave them to me, then I suddenly realised I already have them. Never felt that stupid in my WoW life before. Luckily, GMs sorted it quite fast and the guy who should get them didn't have to wait too long.
Also, I had a near-death experience on Lurker once, because I forgot to click off Water Walking after we got to our places. So when first Spout warning came, I back to the water, press 'x' and guess... Well, after a while of panic I remembered about WW and managed to click it in time, but it was pretty close.

It was my first time in [N]MgT and I was looking at my Minimap while following others in my group (It was a guild group). I was following the first blip on my mini map unaware (because he was out of my LOS) that it was our Rogue, and he was stealthed and roaming around Kael's chamber right in front of the Trash at the top of the steps. I never looked up and just ran right to his blip on the mini-map, which just happened to be spitting distance from that last trash pull. Needless to say, I aggro'ed the whole lot and wiped the raid.
Ahhh, good times, good times.

As a kara tank, I hav made many blunders, one of the most common is thunderclap breaking CC.
Last night we ran kara and my target got switched to the healer, but i didnt notice until I lost my aggro and Illhoof one shotted both healers, and then wiped the raid, oops

Hmm.... The biggest mistake i made in Azeroth was when i was Loot Master and gave the tanking boots from nalorakk to a rogue :D Fun chat after that... Well a GM made it all better after two hours of waiting.
Jessierockeron May 24th 2008 8:32AM
I tried to use divine intervention on myself.
Yinxie May 24th 2008 8:35AM
I once ninja-ed the whole chess chest cause I was opening the chest and I had it on auto-loot XD
Jessierockeron May 24th 2008 8:49AM
Oh and btw, could someone tell me how that cudgel should go to a prot pally tank over a holy priest? I've only played as a warr tank.
Balius May 24th 2008 8:45AM
For one thing, it offers +spell damage, where similar item-level healing gear offers MUCH more +healing. Spell hit is also wasted on a healer, since the people being hit don't generally resist heals.
Eliah Hecht May 24th 2008 8:52AM
Yeah, what Balius said. It is an extremely good Shadow priest item, but that's not my main spec, so the pally gets first dibs on it.
Antistes May 24th 2008 9:07AM
@Jessie
The answer is:
Because a protection-specced paladin rely on (some don't, but they ought to rethink) spells to build threat. Thus their best tanking weapons are relatively low physical damage but high spell-D weapons (such as i.e. Crystalforged Sword which my pally is using atm).
Spell hit is ofc equally good since it makes your judgements hit more often.
None the less a lolsmiter (:D) or a shadow priest would benefit from it too naturally. I suppose blizzard would'nt make class-speficic weapons but rather class-suited weapons.
Calaana May 24th 2008 9:10AM
We pali make threat via spell output.
Jessierockeron May 27th 2008 7:18AM
ah i get it now, thx every1

Once, when i was leveling in tailoring and trying to earn some much needed cash i made 5 Robes of Power. Only after 5 attempts to put them on the AH did i relize they were BOP! What a waste...it still huants me to this day :(
Balius May 24th 2008 8:41AM
My new paladin was being ran through SFK, and the person doing the running outpaced himself and looked to be in trouble. I meant to heal, wound up using my bubble on him, and got clobbered by the mobs.
Ayrianna May 24th 2008 8:45AM
I still refuse to believe that it was a real noob moment... But the one time I was Master Looter in Kara was the one time I screwed up... Twice.
I'm an enchanter, and Mongoose dropped. I had been talking about it on vent with the group, and no one else mentioned that they wanted it, so I looted it. After that, the other enchanter in the group threw a fit, which upset the rest of the group. Luckily, no one left.
But on that same set of loot from Moroes, the DPS dagger dropped, and only 1 person rolled on it- a Pally. I thought that Daggers were the "univeral" weapon that everyone could use, and the pally wanted it as an offspec. So I looted it to him. I really had no idea that Pallies are the ONLY class that can't use daggers. A big line of "............" followed. The guy thought that it was obvious that he was joking about wanting it, and the rest of the group was then convinced I was a noob.
It ended in me yelling at everyone on vent, and telling them to not F-ing roll on stuff as a joke. They all shut up, and I didn't screw up any of the subsequent looting.
