Around Azeroth: Hail to the king, baby
What's the best part of finishing an instance? The pride of killing a final boss? Admiring your new gear? Not having to listen to the tank call the healers "lol gay noobs" anymore? (Note: As you can tell from the comments, some people believed this was a slur against gay people. It was a reference to a previous article and my strong dislike for others using "gay" as a negative adjective. I have added a link and this note to clarify. If you REALLY want to get upset about homophobia, read the comments on the linked article ...) Or posing in the boss's chamber and proclaiming yourself Lord of the Instance? Having cleared (as best I can tell) Blackrock Depths -- an accomplishment in and or itself -- Eriolanna of <Steel Legion> on Darkspear has decided to take the throne. However, judging by the size of her "subject's" sword, I suspect that a coup may be in the future.
Do you have any unusual World of Warcraft images that are just collecting dust in your screenshots folder? We'd love to see it on Around Azeroth! Sharing your screenshot is as simple as e-mailing aroundazeroth@wow.com with a copy of your shot and a brief explanation of the scene. You could be featured here next!
Remember to include your player name, server and/or guild if you want it mentioned. We prefer full screen shots without the UI showing -- use alt-Z to remove it. And please, no sunsets, shiny shiny shiny as they are.

"Not having to listen to the tank call the healers lol gay noobs anymore?"
I guess that's one way to put it... o_o; Kinda did a double take on that sentence.
Sivar May 25th 2008 11:15AM
Yea, not very professional.
Jeni May 25th 2008 11:55AM
What do you expect? WowInsider's kinda been going down the tubes.

Journalism at it's highest rank

Kuri, that's a quote from an actual PUG I was in, and also a reference to this post: http://www.wowinsider.com/2007/05/28/lol-gay/ . The point being that I hate that language and consider suffering through an instance with people using it akin to having my eyes scratched out by crows nesting on the inside of my brain.
Jamie May 25th 2008 12:30PM
Indeed, it's fairly obviously a reference to language and terms used by some players in game.
kuri May 25th 2008 2:33PM
Ah, I didn't mean it was a lack of journalistic integrity or anything (lots of that going around WI these days in the comments), I just had a double-take and wanted to see if anyone else did too.
Jeenome May 25th 2008 5:11PM
I think people might not have been so confused has the "lol gay" post been linked on the quote.

Is it just me, or does that wall carving/mural behind the throne look kind of like Gordon Freeman, dwarfified? :P

"However, judging by the size of her "subject's" sword, I suspect that a coup may be in the future."
Naw, he's just happy ta see her.

Why do people get their panties in a bunch about this site? Even if the "lol gay noob" comment was coming from personal experience...last time I checked this wasn't CNN.com.
zIf you don't like the reading material, how about shooting the writer an email and letting them know, as opposed to calling them out in front of everyone?

Seriously, the "gay" reference is uncalled for and highly insulting to me and many gay gamers in WoW. Indeed, this blogger has many players on the Proudmoore realm talking and they're quite upset with WoW Insider, as am I.
I'm awaiting for an edit of the post to remove the offensive language. How this could get through an editor's proofreading is beyond me, but if this edit does not occur in a timely manner, I'll be saying goodbye to WoW Insider -- and I won't be the only one.
Elizabeth Wachowski May 25th 2008 9:15PM
Danny, please read comment #5 above. The point of that reference, as you can see in the linked article, is that I'm highly annoyed by people using that sort of language and it makes instances extremely unpleasant for me. As such, I've linked to the "lol gay" post in the article to make this clearer.
I would think that my posting history would help people complaining understand that I am, in fact, making a joke and stand on the same side of the issue they do.

It's amazing the things people will do get attention. If I got upset every time I heard a racial slur against one of the half-dozen ethnicities flowing through my blood, or a defammatory remark against my career choice...I'd be a pretty miserable person.
I personally feel offended when homosexuals wave gay pride signs with inappropriate drawings or pictures on them, or feel the need to be outspoken on the internet about their homosexuality...
"Indeed, this blogger has many players on the Proudmoore realm talking and they're quite upset with WoW Insider, as am I."
Wow, just wow... Note to self: Don't go to that server, it's full of....
uptight people. Yep, I said it.
Triquetral May 26th 2008 3:32AM
You have got to be kidding me. People get offended from something as small as that? Hell play the real game for god sakes and you will hear more than you will ever hear in an entire life time! The writer did not intend it in a manner like many of you assumed, who were quick to jump in and offend his integrity....and he has stated numerous times he did not mean it that way, so go cry me a river already. Get over it. He already apologised and explained himself, theres no more that he can do for the homosexual community to make them feel better when he did not even offend them in the first place.
Btw, dannyflorida, why was it only the Proudmoore realm that was upset? It that full of homosexual people? (not meant in a bad way, thats a completely serious question, i found it odd that you said that considering that i assume)
